"Lee Sin, Yasuo, Zed, Riven, etc. are fun, that's why they are popular"

YumaS2Astral··88 votes·10,860 views

I find Xerath, Fiddlesticks, Trundle, and Karthus, to be extremely fun. Why nobody picks them, then?

Being fun is a subjective concept, so it is not a good factor to determine the reason why certain champions are popular. I find Yasuo to be extremely boring, for example, even though many find him to be fun.

Also, technically winning is fun, and people want to win. People have the mentality that mobile champions have a better chance to win,, so people use them.

Also, I am sure that if you ask to many people, they will say "Veigar is boring" due to many reasons which may include lack of mobility, you have to focus on farming during the early game, and others. Yet, he is now one of the most popular champions.

Note: This thread is not meant to determine whether certain champions are OP or not.

This actually makes sense. I remember the time where Katarina was instalocked everytime she was open, if I am not mistaken, Katarina is the champion that has the highest chance to pentakill in a battle. Thankfully now Katarina is not nearly as popular, and I am on an elo where people know how to make her not have an impact. I still get impressed, however, with the plays that she is capable of doing.

Untrue. Kat has the highest average pentas per game.

Damn you're right. http://www.leagueofgraphs.com/champions/stats/by-pentakills

It's not by much, but my reasoning was that Katarina has a hard time killing tanks while Master Yi, can cut through them like butter.

In DIamond he does have it however, but only like 1 percent of the league community is up there.

Sure it is, Riven, Yasuo, Zed and Lee Sin are able to make super flashy plays with tons of mobiltiy and damage. People find that more fun than right clicking as trundle, pressing w as fiddles or pressing r as karthus.

It is still a subjective concept, and Trundle is more than just right clicking. He has a pillar and his ultimate. And he is a troll. I find trolls to be very fun, especially ice trolls.

Also, Veigar is not able to make "flashy plays" yet he is popular. Kha'Zix is able to make flashy plays, yet he is not nearly as popular as the other aforementioned champions.

AbrahamBaconham5 votes

KhaZix and Veigar are not consistently popular like Riven, Yasuo, Zed and Lee Sin. On average, more people find Riven, Yasuo, Zed and Lee Sin to be more fun and more exciting than Trundle, Fiddlesticks, KhaZix, and Veigar. Fun is subjective, but Riven, Yasuo, Zed and Lee Sin popular because they are more fun for more people.

ShatoSummoner1 votes

Kha and Veigar are also changed farm more than any of those champions. While those champions will gain some number changes every here and there, none of them have received any heavy mechanical changes in a long time. Both Kha and Veigar get frequent mechanic changes.

You want the short answer? Because the champions you listed don't have loaded kits, and they don't hyperscale. Those champions are for the most part balanced, and people only like broken champs. If a champion isn't broken, they're considered weak and no one plays them. Generally, the less a champion is played, the more balanced they are.

Xerath actually scales pretty hard into late game. Athene's, Luden's, Sorc boots, Void staff, Zhonya's, and then Deathcap. You'll chunk squishies to lower then 25% with two Q's, and can completely destroy them with just your 3 basics

Deathmark1177 votes

and then there is veigar who q r and boom your dead

spank me lee2 votes

true. their are some more viable champs than others right now. fiddlesticks and ezreal isnt really the best rn

I GANK LANES2 votes

why is this upvoted? zed lee riven fall off extremely hard late game lol, yasuo is the only one that scales decently and that's with the right comp

My Waifu Vanilla1 votes

Yeah but games Riven/Lee/Zed win there IS no late game for them to fall off on. They hyper carry in the fact they snowball so hard there is no way for the enemy team to dream of getting a late game unless the Riven/Zed/Lee team completely throws the game. Not every game lasts 45 minutes with both teams hitting full builds. The champions OP lists are ones that do extremely well and gain very early power spikes that can snowball a game.

I GANK LANES3 votes

if this happened they'd be winning more than half their games, but they don't.

That is the most backwards logic I have ever read.

ModWulf Helhammer7 votes

For Xerath, I think it's because of his reliance on skill shots, especially his ult. Even with level 5 mastery on him, I still sometimes completely whiff my shots. It's not fun when you can't do your main sources of damage, something that can happen with Xerath

flibitydoo2 votes

How did you get to level 5 mastery but not learn how to chain your abilities together?

you land your W which slows them and then chain into e, and when they're stunned (and incapable of moving) you fire your Q.

Or perhaps you lead in with E into a quick W+Q rotation.

Or you charge you Q and (paying close attention to your target), fire it from the fog of war, when they're busy doing something like auto attacking a minion.

i'm not level 5 Xerath; I've played Xerath like 4 times in my whole life and I know how to land his abilities. Xerath is 100% skillshots, but just like Lux or Zilean or Syndra or Morgana or Ahri (or Sion), their is definitely consistency in their kits if you understand how to use cc.

The only champion I find that I can legitimately whiff everything with is Ziggs, who's abilities don't set each other up as well (his E is a knockback, with like a .1 second stun at the end). However his animation speeds are fast enough that you don't really require set up.

KingKong235013 votes

How did you get to whatever age you are without reading comprehension? He said if he misses his shots. How can he land any of those aformentioned combos if he misses the shots?

flibitydoo1 votes

He said he missed every ability sometimes-implying that he spams them without care-something that a mastery level 5 (hell a guy who played Xerath 5 times) would never do.

Literally it takes 10 minutes with Xerath before you realise that you're supposed to fish with your E or your W before you move in with your other abilities (if you land E or W, otherwise you fallback). If they don't hit, you don't shoot. Perhaps you are incapable of reading so let me paint it nice and simple for you:

You never fire all your spells at once. You fire your E or your W, and if they land, then you fire your other hard to hit abilities. Many other mages do this as well. For example, Lux fishes with her Q before unloading her other abilities.

The fact that Avantel is complaining about whiffing literally everything is a sign that he does not know how to properly play mages. My point is that you should never complain about missing your entire kit. Unless you are a complete noob and have never played this game before (or games of this genre), then landing your full kit against an enemy should not be an issue.

Also

How did you get to whatever age you are without reading comprehension? He said if he misses his shots. How can he land any of those aformentioned combos if he misses the shots?

Nice fragment, maybe you should learn English too before calling someone else out.

Narsicus9 votes

All he said was that he 'sometimes completely wiffs my shots', this does not imply he is randomly spamming every ability like you seem to think. All it implies is that even with practice hitting skill shots is not guaranteed, which is a statement so self evident that it is hard to imagine someone arguing against it.

Or, at least it WAS hard to imagine until it became a reality.

In all honesty I find Trundle extremely boring to play, just boost your stats, basic attack them and pray to god you don't get kited or they're stupid enough to fight you on the frozen domain.

However I find playing Yasuo is an absolute roller-coaster ride each time, yes it's dirty of me but we all have our vices.

RedCyclone6 votes

The real reason they are picked is because they can turn a fight on a dime and shit on you when they are 10%hp

It feels bullshit when you see a low health Lee and you catch him, only for him to do his combo in half a second and kill you near instantly

thumbnail95 votes

Have you ever thought that maybe your perception on a champion is the reason you don't think they are fun?

These are high APM champion (maybe not lee) that give you high skill ceilings that leave you feeling very gratified that you did X thing at X time.

ShatoSummoner1 votes

Except a lot of them don't have skill ceilings as high as they should be, or skill floors for that matter. As an example, riven has a very low skill floor, and maybe an average skill ceiling. You can be a first time riven and get a lucky lane and still carry the game super hard. Yeah, lee sin has a fairly high skill floor, but the ceiling is not that far from it. Yasuo is in a similar position to riven, in that even if you are horrible with the champion you can still snowball if you get a lucky lane.

So what you're saying is that if my enemy laner feeds me I can snowball and carry the game?

ShatoSummoner1 votes

It goes a bit beyond that though. They have tools in their kits that means that if your enemy dies to you even just once, there's little to no coming back from it. High damage, mobility, and CC make it very difficult to passively farm a lane once they get ahead.

HaIlMonitor4 votes

Yeah I agree, people just think winning is fun.

warpenguin5553 votes

I have had fun as all 4 in the title. But of course, when I did i was doing good with them. IMO the true way to tell if a champion is fun is if you still are having a good time when behind. For me, this goes for Bard Nocturne Renekton. I have fun with them when im doing poorly. Alot of the people who play champions in the title just play them because they are unstoppable when ahead, but they are also probably the FF spammers (aka most flavor of the mouth mains)

Fun is subjective, but the champions you listed have exciting and flashing kits, they move around a lot, they DO things, they blow up people, or out play them. None of the ones you listed are over powered (Don't even try to argue that).

And if your argument is that people just play to win, they'd pick heimer dinger or champions that have the highest win rates, Lee and Riven don't even have a 50%, and Yasuo and Zed barely even touch 50% either.

They play them because they ARE fun, Veigar isn't one of the most popular champions either compared to others, Lee sin is at a 48% play rate, while veigar barely hits 15%. (And lee sin only has about a 45% win rate).

Zed Riven Lees and Yasuos kits, ARE FUN, for most people, fun is subjective, but we all play league of legends, and generally people like to make Flashy plays or Nuke someone because its FUN. Playing a slow boring game of poke and stacking, doesn't give most the rush that destroying someone in 2 seconds does.

So yes, fun is a good factor to determine the reason why they are played a lot. Everyone is their own person, but people who have the same hobbies (IE league of legends) generally tend to think a like in one way or another :)

ADepressedLeona2 votes

I bet some people would find Vi boring or Leona boring. But I think they're both really fun to play. Personally, I like being a tanky brawler who just jumps into the enemy team, locks down a key target while my team rushes in and wipes the floor with them

Oh and in Vi's special case I like punching things. A lot.

Also Sejuani . I really like her too >_>

I know this isn't exactly on topic, but I felt like asking anyway.

I don't know about you guys, but I find Fiddlesticks EXTREMELY boring. He just feels so simple, and his point and clicks feel intuitive. I have his Risen Fiddlesticks skin and every day I wonder why I bought it. I think it's a great skin, but I rarely play him at all.

Can anyone help me understand why they enjoy playing Fiddlesticks?

I personally like Fiddlesticks because I like to feel like I am a death scarecrow from the darkness.

Also, there is his ult. It is really fun on my opinion. It is fun to ult, especially when your opponent does not expect it and gets scaried.

Mr Broken Wings1 votes

Mobility champions with big outplay potential are a lot more fun even if statistically worse ( hell I even played leblanc with her 40% winrate, I wont touch stupid tanks like darius and skarner even if they have 60% winrate). Fun is different for every person, it just happens that these champions have the biggest playerbase because of their great kits. ( yeah, I hate some of these champs but I have to admit their kits are great) This thread is stupid, do you guys really enjoy playing an autohitbot like caitlyn or an ult bot like fucking karthus more then lee sin even if you feed more as lee? This board is a joke.

Champs shouldn't be just fun to play, they also must be fun to play against. I have screens where Fizz killing me in 0.23 sec, and LB killing me in 0.3. And this wasn't fun. At all.
