@meddler: what happened to 5 mastery trees?

Critmaster Garen··98 votes·3,623 views

last weve heared was that youre aiming at 5 trees in total, and that the masteries should get a rework around midseason.

i actually expected them to be part of the tank update. has the entire thing been postponed to the next preseason or are we still going to see them soon?

Hardnuff to balance around 3 mastery trees...

might be easier to balance 5 trees than 3.

if everyone has something op in the mastery tree that synergizes with him, it might work out better than if there are only a couple masteries that synergize with specific champions, while other champions dont get anything out of them.

xD

#balance Make everyone 1 hp and everyone does 5k damage...

If everyones busted nobody's weak :D

xD

But yea... It might bring more diversity to the table, that would be nice..

On this topic, Blitzcrank

He's a unique tank support in that his main form of CC that he'll almost always apply first is a long range hook, so CotC is mostly useless.

He only has 2 ways of applying Bond of Stone, one of which, again his Q, has very long cooldown, the other also being single target.

Thunderlords is pretty gimmicky and is only guaranteed to proc after 6.

I'm not even gonna talk about the other ones.

Take warlord's so you can position yourself better for a hook kappa

GGLineaR4 votes

The only ones worth taking on the Donger are Thunderlords, because ya know, ap, and Stormraider's on the off chance you need a quick getaway.

The more unique champs from back in the day seem to just have been left out to dry. Vladimir Is another example of this.

That being said, at least Blitz is useful to some degree. Donger and Vlad are in a terrible spot for game health, and how shitty they are in comparison to others champs.

Q+auto+E = tlords 0_o

Or do you mean guaranteed as in land Q.

The enemy can dash / flash away while you try to auto reset.

SkZ DoPe2 votes

if Im not mistaken his E counts as 2 stacks, so you might pop it off with Q + E only

Well you can auto them during your E knock up to proc Tlords as well

Oddly enough, I've had luck with Stormraider's Surge. You hook, punch, silence, and then you've done 30% of your target's health, so you can either run away like lightning with your remaining steam or stick like glue until your punch comes back up.

thunderlords

hook + E + AA.

Sagaxwiki1 votes

Heimerdinger has like perfect synergy between his w and thunderlords.

GGLineaR1 votes

Hardly. The large cooldown on TLs doesn't have even decent synergy with non-burst champs.

HeimerLmao1 votes

Actually your separate W rockets proc thunderlords, if you hit at least 3 of them you proc it

RisenDarkKnight2 votes

Thunderlord's is sooo good on heimer though. One partial connection wtih W procs it.

I have a strong distaste of burst damage. The only time I use burst as donger is for zoning.

Maybe it's just me, but I'd like to see a meta that isn't primarily dominated by burst champions.

Or maybe I'll just play donger support, because fuck it.

I think 5 trees would be better

we have some kind of utility/offensive/sustainish tree mashed together which is weird

and we have a sustainish/tanky sort of tree

i also find a lot of the masteries pretty boring tbh, +% this + 3 that yay interesting such game play influence

they should really fix that

since they promised us choice and gameplay impact when they reworked the tree again in preseason 6 and we got neither

If they really want to split trees then 6 might be better.

OFFENSIVE (dealing damage) :: Sustained damage :: Burst damage UTILITY (non-damage activity) :: Enchanting :: Control DEFENSIVE (passive durablity) :: Protection (less aggresive, affecting the user and allies) :: Frontline (aggresive, better but "selfish")

What would be in control subtree? Increased time of your CCs? Lol...

it will most likely happen after MSI is done since they don't want to screw with the meta while esports is still currently going on. thus giving them time to play around with it before the summer split. Leblanc Xayah Ezreal Ziggs

Esports play in an earlier patch than we do, though. They won't mess up Esports by shipping new content to live.

Sugar Momma1 votes

Riot has said in the past they like for the game people are playing to not be too drastically different than what is being played in pro play (why drastic changes tend to be saved for after MSI and Worlds, known as mid season and pre season, respectively).

Ralanr9 votes

Probably a preseason thing now. They also planned on reworking runes during the midseason. Some stuff probably just took more priority.

can we go back to season 4/5 trees tbh

well. at least those had generally great defensive masteries. i wouldnt mind.

these keystones are dumb anyway, only one of them hasn't been broken and people still hate that it gets taken on champs like Darius

Riot can't make even three trees interesting.

Shuyin1785 votes

Runes and Masteries aren't suppose to be interesting. They're suppose to be helpful, that's all. Just like passive effects you get in any video game.

Except riot has stated that one of the main reasons they wanted to add keystones is so that each keystone has a visible and interesting impact in the game. Pretty sure they failed on this except for maybe stormraiders and the new warlord's.

Shuyin1781 votes

All of the keystones are boring from an "interesting" standpoint. It's extremely difficult to make something that isn't a natural part of a champion's kit interesting or exciting.

They probably thought giving Redemption a TF Ult sized cast range would be interesting, to bad it's only used a Nidalee Spear distance away at most 99/100 uses. With Gargoyle's we'll get a ton of HP and cool looking visual effect on our tanks, but we'll lose all of our damage output which makes it boring. Runes Masteries and Items are all boring parts of the game, which is why I'm looking forward to the Thresh game mode so much. It removes all of the boring parts and just gives us a bloodbath.

Skaiserus1 votes

Um. I think Fervor is good.... Just because it doesnt work as well on some champs doesnt mean its completely bad. And just because Warlords is too powerful on some champs, doesnt mean it needs nerfing. Some champs depend on it to stay viable.

That's not what I meant at all by impact. Read the post again. Visible impact.

Muzét3 votes

They won't make sucha huge change at mid-season (meddler stated it -if not some other rioter did) so you can expect it for the next pre-season.

TheDonar3 votes

If it does go to five trees, I hope they add ten more pre game seconds to readjust masteries on champs I don't use a ton. Lord knows I end up with some messed up combinations enough as it is with three trees. :)

MLKKK1 votes

I 100% agree on this one. I ended up as AD LB the other day because of this exact reason xD

Pisykan2 votes

he also said during/after mid-season and its an end-of-year goal, not a short term its a long term goal

Glory ln Death1 votes

They said that any major restructuring of Runes and Masteries would be preseason projects since those will have massive effects on gameplay.

ModCaptainMårvelous1 votes

I assume they're either still working on it or they're putting it on the backburner for the moment.

Hyrum Graff1 votes

It's coming. It will have fewer choices (each with more impact) per tree. I think that's all I can say.
