Small Buff Ideas for Vladimir

Now before I get into this, I would like to say that I prefered old vladimir with spellvamp. Not saying it was healthy but it was fun as hell to play.

So no one should argue that vladimir is in a bad spot right now. It's the same with mordekaiser but I don't see many threads on vlad. The rylais nerfs definitely hit him a bit hard and a lot of the meta top laners are punishing him. So what I would like to see is some small, meaningful buffs to vladimir so he's more enjoyable to play, without being obnoxious to play against. I have 2 ideas.

Ill start by saying I'm not a game design expert so take these with a grain of salt.

  1. Make tides of blood go through minions. Now hear me out, this wouldnt be so bad. Make it so each of the sections of it do less damage for each minion it passes through. Stops when hitting champions. This would allow him to poke a little more during laning phase and not make him any stronger in team fights. I'm not sure how much the damage drop off would be but if a fully charged tides of blood would do 500, then lets say it going through 3 minions before hitting a champion, it would do maybe 100. This is up for debate of course but I think it's a good idea.

  2. Make his pool last longer. Make it like 3 or 4 seconds, and the longer he stays in there, the more health it drains. It would also be good if his pool had more meaningful lifesteal. Vladimir pays a hefty price for his pool. It's a really strong ability, but 20% of my current health is a large chunk. I'm not saying we should reduce the cost, but increase the amount he heals back from it. I hardly even notice the healing I'm getting from my pool which always puts me at a health disadvantage with that and his e. There are two ways they can do it. Increase the healing percentage from 15% of damage dealt to maybe 20 or 25, or give it a small ap scaling to do more damage. Something like 20% of his ap so that 15% is healing for more. It would also be nice to get a more meaningful speed boost. For those unfamiliar, when vladimir pools, he gets a small burst of speed that only last for a second and then decays rapidly. I would prefer to see a slightly smaller speed increase, but have it last for the whole duration.

What do you guys think? I know the pool change might be a bit much but something similar would be great to see. I don't see these changes putting him back into a top tier spot but at least on par with the other top laners.

Just make his empowered Q do its full amount of healing (rather than being 35% effective) on minions and/or lower its cast time.

Hey that's a good idea actually. I still would like to see the e change so I can have more reliable poke though.

Yeah i havnt even touched the new vlad, but having a 4 second invulnerability is a huge no no.

well im saying it would drain his health. So leaving it on would be more detrimental to him than helpful

The only places Vlad could ever take buffs without becoming over-tuned again:

  • Base HP
  • Base MS
  • Base Armor
  • Auto-Attack projectile speed
  • W CD
  • E CD changed to 9/8/7/6/5
  • Q healing reduction penalty decreased vs minions
  • Q/W buff MS

I do think his movement speed needs buffed with the rylais nerf. It feels akward when I get my 3rd q because I feel like I should be moving faster than I am.

I'd honestly like to see the MS buff removed from empowered Q entirely, along with removing the time limit on casting it (i.e. the ability is empowered on the next cast, not for the next 2.5 secs). Because as it stands, with it's reduced healing on minions and the enemy champ easily being able to see the ability coming, anybody with 2 brain cells to rub together is going to back off for the 2 secs it takes for the ability to go away and then re-engage. Also removing the timing mechanic would be nice, because sometimes you have to last hit/farm jungle/etc. as vlad when roaming and it's nice not to have to re-stack Q twice just to cast it on a minion upon your return to lane.

Anyone decent at Vlad sits at one stack and goes all in as CR is coming up. Managing your resources is important, no matter how small the pool is.

Considering game health, your idea is terrible, tbh. Sorry :/

Permanently zoning people with a 300 damage 1.1 AP ratio ability would be too much.

Plus, losing that MS buff would hurt considering he's among the lowest MS in the game.

Something that he could really benefit from would be removing the cast time on his q.

Q healing reduction on minions is a delicate spot. I feel like decresing it just a little could boost his sustain really much especially with early CDR stacking ( i like to get back to lane with around 30 %). It is really easy to flip him from a hard early game to someone that you can't trade with.

I don't think that buffing the auto attack projectile speed would be of any use. The auto attack is not too hard to cs with and if the "cast time" remains the same it's still the same room for the enemy laner to attack as well. (I probably don't get your point with this so please explain!)

His Base MS shouldn't have been nerfed it was a big hit to his empowered q usage. I'd be glad to see it reverted. Also with the Rylai's nerf it wouldn't give him too much power. Maybe hitting a champion with q could give a little movement speed for 1 second?

I do believe that the cooldown nerfs went a little overboard. Just 1 or 2 seconds off from e and/or w would be really nice.

Just get Hextech gunblade. 80 AP isn't terrible nowadays, you get a lot of healing, and AA's heal too now, with a bonus 40AD for those AA's, which is nice.

Hextech Gunblade is not too cost efficient on Vlad. Sure the omnivamp is nice but you won't get much use of the ad part anywhere but the laning phase and building Hextech Gunblade in lane is missing out on much more important first items. It also takes a long time to build with a price of 3400.

I do it anyway. Once you are in team fights and have gunblade and spirit visage, you are next to unkillable.

I like to do it sometimes as well. When the enemy is stupid or losing enough. I usually have a lot of fun with Windspeaker's blessing + Runic armor + SV + Hashtag Gunblade.
