Varus is another victim of the "Riot Special"

The Riot special; when Riot pushes a champion into a completely different playstyle from the one that he and his players were used to (tear/Lethality Varus) by nerfing him (Gutting his Q) and then gutting his preferred itemization (Lethality/armor pen).

And since that isn't enough Riot then proceeds to gut said champion's new playstyle (On-Hit Varus) by nerfing his kit even further (Passive and W) and then nerfing the main item said champion needs (Rageblade) to make sure said champion doesn't see play until they feel like buffing him again in 6 months.

The Riot Special ladies and gentlemen.

Seriously wtf are we supposed to do as Varus? You gut his Q then nerf his new playstyle into 48% winrate but we can't even go back to his old one because AGAIN YOU GUTTED HIS Q FOR NO GOOD REASON. LETHALITY WAS ALREADY GETTING NERFED WHY DID YOU HAVE TO DESTROY HIS Q GOD DAMN IT. THEN SINCE THAT CLEARLY WASN'T ENOUGH YOU COME AND GIVE ME A 40 SEC ABILITY THAT EMPOWERS ANOTHER ONE AS AN EXCUSE TO GUT HIS PASSIVE AND W. /rant

I hate what you do to your champions you give up too easily, you just gut everyone and make them a shell of their former selves just to pop up years later with "hey here's a rework" Varus hasn't gotten a rework YET. I'm pretty sure that's what's next in store for him. Varus isn't the first, nor will he be the last

What I find sad is the act tat now he's the only outdated darkin character now.

Varus was promised a new VO since the lore changes that he received. But I would rather wait for a potential VGU or a small gameplay update (that would make his other playstyles more viable such as; Crit, Lethality Poke, On-Hit) that would come with the Voice Over.

Because new Voice Over won't change the fact that his base visuals are really outdated.

I understand Varus with Lethality was fun, but I don't think that was ever the build that he was meant to take. If it makes you feel better, AP Kog doesn't work as well anymore either.

How else is he meant to be played?

Auto attack builds are too easy to counter against everything that isn't a tank. He has no mobility and low AA range (575 range just doesn't cut it anymore)

The point of him having long range abilities is that he can impact the fight from somewhere safe, but Riot effectively killed Varus by forcing him into a single build path that isn't optimal for him.

He was meant to be played like a AS ADC, with some poke damage, then people started experimenting.

Historically Varus hasn't been good as an AS ADC, even in the LCS. He became a popular pick in both LCS and ranked queues when the poke build with tear was discovered in season 4-5. In my OPINION AS Varus only works because rageblade is busted. When rageblade wasn't like this it was pointless to play him like that (or even build crit on him) and even now in my opinion if rageblade was removed tomorow AS Varus' builds would die on the spot.

Yeah man season 3. When pretty much all ADCs built the same way.

The game has changed a lot since then. Bloodthirster used to give 100 AD and if you rushed that with LW on him it was godly.

It started to become meta so Riot nipped it in the bud, similar to AP Kog.

If he wasn't meant to why did he spent most of his seasons being only viable as one? The first time poke Varus became a legit build was almost 4 years ago and it was nerfed last year.

It only became an issue when Lethality was OP and Riot nerfed it because it was convenient as they always do.

Varus is still played a lot, so a win rate of 48 percent shouldn't be the least bit surprising. He's in a fine spot at the moment. A ton of people play him with locked camera and can't even aim his Q properly.

Wtf riot i was a varus main. I had an own user where i only played varus. My first champ ever to play and main was varus and then you changed him to ap witch was fine untill you nerfed rageblade and varus so he was unplayebl. First i stopped playing varus but now i dont want to play and instead I int or troll alot its not fun pls give varus some love and dont make him suck as much as old Aatrox

Rito Special is when the balancing team keeps balancing the game over the pro pkayers and not have in mind the bronze which is the majority of the player base heck not even silver and gold where people up from gold 5 are the top 10%. Yet rito doesn't give a fuck about opinions of anyone below diamond maybe high plat. I will never forget the moment rito nerfed a champion because faker said is mega op... Literally next patch it disappears from the champion map.
