Why Do You Get Kicked For Not Locking In?

Not really mad, but just curious as to what Riot's thought process behind this is.

I just got kicked from a match because after I chose my champion, the client lagged a bit and I never got to actually lock in. While this does happen occasionally for me, it will still load in to the actual game just fine. Just sucks that it counts as a dodge for ranked games as well. =/

It's mainly because people like to AFK during champ select, and can miss a lot of valuable information in chat. Especially things like the team warning you not to forget to take smite. It's mainly to make sure that you're active, and it's one more step to confirm that everything is in order.

There are a few kinks, though. Some people have reported some form of client lag (I think it's because of how flashy this new champ select screen is, personally) so waiting until the last moment is not the best. I'd avoid it if there is any way you can. I get that sometimes, you're on the fence or your team is giving you conflicting info sometimes, and that's probably when getting kicked by this happens the most.
