Why you should play TF if you're low elo

Greetings, I got silver II last season after 14 ranked games. Maybe I could climb higher if I played more ranked, maybe I can't. Regardless, since s6 started, I've been playing quite a lot of TF in normals and I sincerely believe that he is a really strong champion to climb with if you want to play ranked. Here's why:

  1. You aren't punished for drawing blue card in lane. If you watch high elo streamers play TF, such as Bjergsen, they will frequently leave the Pick-A-Card oscillating above TF's head to zone opponents out of fear of drawing a gold card, with the underlying assumption that if the TF were to choose blue, the opponent would engage. In my low elo silver/gold normal games, no one punishes me for locking in blue card, allowing me to push indefinitely.

  2. ADC's won't respect your assassination potential. Once you finish your first item and lichbane, you can assassinate most ADC's (except Sivir) if they're by themselves. Which they will be quite frequently come mid game, since they will feel the need to push out bot.

  3. After two or three successful bot ganks, the enemy team will be super tilted, allowing your team to snowball to victory.

  4. The whole "I won my lane but my team made me lose" thing isn't as relevant for TF. Since he has such a commanding global presence, you have a higher chance of hard carrying, as well as a higher chance of getting your team fed so they can't lose the game for you.

TF requires a much better understanding of macro play than the average low elo player possesses, so hats off to you for succeeding with him! I wouldn't recommend him because of that map awareness aspect, but also because he is a little more limited with his damage than other champions. Don't get me wrong, he is capable of doing very high damage with the two (three w/ passive) damaging spells in his kit, but its a lot less forgiving if you miss or one of them gets blocked. Low elo is generally a blood bath "team deathmatch" style of game, and TF can be effective at getting other lanes strong enough to fight, but you run the risk of your lanes falling behind before you can help them and then being at a disadvantage because you lose a potential lane to roam to. If you're performing well on him, continue doing you, but I don't think TF is as suitable for low elo as some other champions that require less game knowledge to succeed with.

Interesting point. However, there are many people in silver or gold who are actually quite good at laneing (average 9-10 cs per minute, ward well, dont die in a 1v1 against their laner) but don't win as often as they could because they're so focused on winning lane and don't know how to close out a game. TF just seems like a natural choice for those kind of players because part of winning lane phase on TF entails roaming and getting your team fed.
