So why DID they remove dominion?
Serious question. Legit curious.
Serious question. Legit curious.
Because fifty thousand unique daily players (after bots excluded) apparently wasn't enough. League has tons of players, yeah. But it still felt pretty awful to have it removed.
I would feel better if an updated Dominion (not that DnD nonsense) made it into the rotating queue at the very least.
Though most of all, I just want a 'for fun' non-snowballing mode where I can actually pick my champion.
It's because it was outdated (art wise) and they deemed that the player base who used it was too small so they moved away from it. They pay more attention to Summoners Rift as a whole, so they just decided to push more of the game focus towards that instead of other modes.
Nobody was playing it and they couldn't be bothered with updating it and doing balance changes for it
No one played it, and they had to pay for server upkeep regardless.
They should have scrapped Treeline instead.
Im using my dominion icon forever.
I wish they'd bring the original Dominion back at least within the rotation, but yeah apparently people just didn't play it enough, I think the mode is pretty damn solid and enjoyable. Some say Riot is worried about paying for the servers to host Dominion, bro Riot is rich asfk now and needs to get over that lol
Because they couldn't bother to do map-specific changes for more than 3 patches (Dominion wasn't a map for LC$BIGPLAYS after all), and then they wondered why no one played the map they refused to give any support to. Enjoy TT while it lasts, folks.
It was mostly balance. Riot didn't want to have another gamemode up and running when they're balancing and designing champs around summoner's rift, as well as bug fix them. Their excuse was Rift and TTL where basically the same gameplay wise with lanes, but dominion was such a different playstyle they couldn't keep making stuff work for it without breaking dominion and handling abuse cases on time without hurting them in other modes. (this was before they actually did balance ARAM a little for champs like GP and nas, and to this day that's all they've done. They tweaked items in TTL and ARAM like twice. They nerfed DH too for ARAM but I think that was only for keystone abuse reasons, ignoring veigar and co. exist.)
This in combination of a lower playrate resulted in them just giving up on the mode and making it a rotational gamemode, treating it as a fun little gamemode that they can tweak bugfixes inbetween rotations, rather then a serious gamemode alternative to rift they have to be mindful of on the fly.
the official answer is that it was costing them too much money to maintain a game mode barely anyone played.
They didn't want to deal with the botters who used dominion to grind accounts to 30 to then sell, and because they didn't deal with the bots and didn't balance it seriously, the game mode slowly lost it's playerbase until they felt comfortable killing it since so few people still played it.
i thing they should bring back dominion it was very fun to play

Dominion Had really powerful items ( RIP ODINS VEIL ) Used had lot of fun playing shaco and garen with it, It was removed maybe because 1.Gold distribution was really bad 2.Champions werent balanced well ( hecarim and xin were too OP )Since they could spam ability without bothering to Aim 3.It was just too much fast paced for Newbies ( People wouldnt be able to learn champion ) 4.It changed Lol's MOBA into really different game ( almost like Warframes mobile defense mode) 5.Relic Addiction*[zombie-nunu-bummed]*
No ideam it had not the biggest playerbase, but still more than many full games out there, and other than maintaining the servers, it had about no upkeep at all for them. They didn't do any specific balance or stuff, and the capture tech is used in many RGM modes aswell so they have to do that anyway, so i don't see any proper reason to remove it
They(or rather tencent) probably run some numbers on it and noticed that it turns in less money than mainting the servers cost so they shut it down to maximize their revenue. Not like Riot had one of the highest revenous amongst all gameing companies even with the burden of dominion, or that tencentis one of the most wealthy companies out there...
For the same reason they removed Zephyr over Ohmwrecker.
i just miss hide and seek was enjoyable time waster when you didnt want to play a full game
Feelsbadman. I actually played it(notice my icon). Despite getting plat last season I don't really enjoy ranked all too much and all I like to play are the casual modes. Aram and the rotating que are all I have :(.
They removed it because it was becoming very apparent that it was more balanced than SR due to it not being touched by Riot's balance team for years.
Riot neglected it (despite promises of a ranked queue), and then removed it because it didn't draw enough players to justify the server cost.
Because they abandoned it for so long, then realized how much work and balance there was to do when they finally came back to it, and by that point people had became frustrated and stopped playing the mode. So Riot blamed people not playing it for the reason for removing it, regardless of being multiple rungs of the ladder long before the "players stopped playing" part.
That's the long and short of it.
i just want to play dominion again man, is that too much to ask
