I hate how the new rune system punishes you for trying new things?

Want to try kleptomancy illaoi, yah enjoy having no resistances. Want to try dark harvest galio jg? enjoy dying to camps because you have no bonus resistances.

so you are basically upset because this game has trade-offs?

The "trade off" is being unable to play off-meta. In the specific example if you were a jungler (recognized as a jungler by riot) you would get the necessary armor to clear the jungle directly on the champion independently from which rune setup you choose. But as Galio the only way to go and kill jungle is giving up your rune setup entirely to get some defenses from resolve, putting you at even bigger disadvantage against the designed to jungle champions.

The thing is,you could not even try anything outside of the norm with the old runes because it would be pointless all together

I miss the old runes, so I could get specific stats when I'm playing off meta stuff.

seriously...nothing is worse than forgetting to change your support runes (manna cycling and ability power stuff) for your damage runes (damage to certain health champs, lifesteal ect.) Holy fucking shit. Usually I play supports and mages to I keep the support runes on for 95% of my games but then when I play an adc or tank I will forget to change my runes anddddd I'm fucked. If I get lucky I can survive but generally its not the case. If a mechanic of the game has so much effect if you don't have that exact set with that champ type then you have made it too powerful. If you forget it should be "Oh well now I don't get that bonus...well that sucks" instead its "Welp time to watch my enemy stomp my ass because hey I don't have any where near the damage and life steal that they do and the only way to get it is through items which haha they have those two so its double the ass whopping" What they should do is have the rune stats lowered and you can increase or decrease the power for points and you will have a limited number of them and you can only max them out at a certain number. Lets say you have 15 points to make a rune build. Each rune can only be maxed to 4. This makes it so that people will have to figure out which runes they wanna prioritize and which ones they still want but don't think they want to be as powerful. More flexibility more customization and we don't get overly powerful runes.

The extra gold you get makes up for the lack of armor. You can basically buy a cloth armor on your way back which will be equal to the amount of armor you'd get with runes.

I don't really understand your logic OP. "Give me more armor on top of a broken rune that gives me excess gold. I feel entitled to being tanky AND rich so that my lane opponent can't kill me"

You need to understand that Rune stats are a tradeoff. You gain a disadvantage in one area and gain a massive advantage in a different area. You can't have both. That would be broken af.

I mean, you're punished to the same extent trying the standard things, since you're missing out on the extra gold/burst of whatever other trees.

I think riot kinda thinks more people should be splashing resolve for extra survivability for the most part, and people aren't because it's preseason madness where everyone is all about damage. Damage tuning versus resistances might be a bit off though.
