Tips on how to view teammates less harshly thus tilt less as a player.

  1. Remember what its like every time you had to lane when there's some one who clearly is better then you. Rather then assume a players intentionally garbage trolls (those guys tend to be very clear by running it down and wont shut up in chat with toxic comments about how little they care and how much they hope you enjoy the loss they are giving you. Just chuckle at the low maturity and report them. Also mute if it bugs you.) treat them like they are just outclassed. My Tops not a shit player, their enemy is just clearly better then them. 2 bad players would both more or less be bad and the lane wouldn't be an issue. When there's a gap thou... its a problem, especially when folks know how to snowball it.

  2. Understand that relying on a player whos skill you think is low is a mistake you make. Im HELLA guilty of this. Go in counting on some one to land the CC skillshot I need... when they have whiffed that ability pretty much every single time. Yes it fking sucks they cant hit their skill but I already have seen them do this multiple times... and so my expectation should be that if I make a play they wont be an impact in it. Treat them playing well as a pleasant bonus not an expectation. Putting faith in some one who all evidence you have says you should not?Is on you.Because your going in making a play that's doomed to fail. Easy solution, Don't make that play, its a bad play. If your the one forcing that your the one making the mistake. Counter intuitive but you lower the # of weak moves **you **make by doing this by removing them as a factor.

Self reliance is a key to climbing, In my opinion. If you expect to climb you should realistically expect players on your team and enemy team to be below your level of skill. If your right or wrong that should show up in your win%. The above are Attitudes I adopted from the impact duoqueing with friends with high MMR gap between accounts creates. Hopefully some one finds this useful.

Shameless plug. Yo Riot, Duo should be off MMR ranges not Tiers, I really think its making more mismatches then its worth for players.

#2 is huge and I think more people need to internalize that, myself included.

That 0/10 Nasus who's been getting shat on all game? Yeah, you're objectively a million times stronger than him.

He is still a threat. He can still kill you or someone else if you play sloppy. Low elo games are coinflippy for a reason - lack of consistency. Players will find ways to surprise you. This makes them still a threat.

Don't play sloppy. Don't let your guard down for an instant until the nexus pops.

Don't under-estimate.

This I've lost countless games where the game was pretty much over and we re at their nexus in rank and I do some troll sht like dive the nexus expecting my team to end it but they decide to fight and end up getting aces and losing lul in rank when I was lower elo now its play2win every game

My strategy is normally to get ignore but if it gets to the point where im SUPER TILTED and Im gonna flame I just go afk.

Because you know, the punishment for AFK'ing is 5 minute extra que but the punishment for flaming is a ban and losing hundreds worth of skins. Not hard to see which one Im choosing

This seems to be counter to your (great) tips.

I think that it would be better to view everyone you're matched with as about equal to your skill. Though matchmaking sucks, most players belong in the rank for a reason. If someone sucks, maybe you suck as much as them, but in different ways.

They have absolutely no map awareness while you're pinging ganks 20s ahead of time, pinging the enemy's exact route? Maybe they constantly forget that the minimap exists, but are excellent at dueling and CSing.

Can't land a skillshot? Maybe they land some sweet deep wards and enable opportunities to get objectives.

Some idiot is roaming around, feeding every lane w/ their 'ganks', and is missing lots of CS? We've all had those games where we can't get a single caddy and the enemy is actually on-point with their vision game, give the feeder the benefit of the doubt.

I've also seen people whose play seemed to be WAAAAY above what should be in my games on either team, but they did nothing but flame their teammates. In a multiplayer game social skills can be just as important as mechanics. Who cares if you are 12/2/5 if you made the game practically a 3v5 w/ your flaming?

^. I have won a lot of games that shoulda been losses because Flamers Tilted allies and their teamwork falls apart. Like stupid 20+ Kill champions with majaority of the Objs but they stoped trying to win and then it fell apart with constant funnled fights where they would lose 1-2 champion and the next wave would rush in and die a little latter. Good times.

Won games by stoping tilt and keeping folks calm, some times by recommending proper usage of the mute button. If you tilt mutes a good tool imo.

I probably shoulda put this in bold for my post. **If your right or wrong that should show up in your win%. ** If you want to climb the assumption should be that you can, But you need to adjust it if becomes clear despite your best efforts your consistent play is not enough. At that point you need to refine your playstyle or invest more time into figuring out exactly where you stand to make a improvement. Are you unable toplay from behind? do you do Feast or Famine champions? Not every player is aware of their playpatterns or puts much though into it.

You provided several viable examples for what issues players can have.

No its not. And it will never be. Unless you are going to consistently play with them social skills will never matter at all. Leadership and being not a total ass yeah but social skills? Why exactly you would even use them in the first place?

Who cares if you are 12/2/5 if you made the game practically a 3v5 w/ your flaming?

Actually i do. And i can imagine a lot more in competitive games do. You see i dont care if you love downplaying others or you are a pretty horrible person (exceptions ofc exist) as long as you stay within the objective of the game you are fine. Im not here to make friends or see the beauty of good people. No bloody hell. I would be out in real life to do that. Im hear to have fun and climb whenever i queue up for ranked.

Social skills are a important part of any type of human to human interaction. I like how Glaricion worded that, its a simple acknowledgment that your interaction with other players can have a positive or negative impact on your ability to win, if your so toxic your going to get some one to run it down mid to to see you lose? That negative impact can far outweigh your personal skill in the game from making the match a win. In the context of league how you word things matters. You can convey the same information but get different results.

"Carefully, that Zed is good." "3-0 Zed, Respect him" "Stop feeding zed you useless fg noob. Why are you such garbage, uninstall your trash. Learn to play. Git Gud Scrub. oh my god your the worst Fg player I have ever see why are you not iron 4." " " <- You can just literally say nothing and that's better then the ^ result most the time.

If nothing else in this game the more you type the less your playing and flamers spend much more time standing there ripping into people then some one whos curt or just keeps it to themselves. Being unemotional or polite tends to result in less negative feedback lowering the amount of time folks spend not actually playing in a match.

You don't have to be friendly or polite. I mean I recommend it because it does make the game more enjoyable for people but its not something you have to do. When you take the extra time and effort to really be a dick to some one your just hurting your odds. Because its honestly less effort to not say a single thing and that's preferable to being a tilted flame lord.

Like I said, I don't really care if I get some one who is outclassed on my team. It happens, how stupid do you have to be to think you and your team are going to be the 5 best players in a game 100% of the time? Some one is going to get outclassed and that's just life.

I want to win. This impacts my behavior to others, its not a complicated concept. People can self justify how ever they want for their negativity. I see it as a number. I will lose X games a year because of flame. I can lower that # by not engaging, I can lower it even farther by taking 5 seconds to diffuse other players. Get emotional players to mute and move on. I want the win.

Now im not someone expert on linguism and the such but what you are talking about is pretty irrelevant with social skills. My social skills are among the worst, yet i can just fine dont act like a prick and avoid flaming if i want.

Might be a difference in opinion over the definition. I go with this definition. "Social skills are the skills we use to communicate and interact with each other," Typing out sentences in game counts as communication and interaction. You and me replying in this thread is communication and Interaction.

I dont think you should approach games individually. Statistically you should win/lose 50% of your games by default. I would argue any movement above or below that over a large volume of games is your performance as a player. So instead of getting upset when your team is losing or performing poorly understand it can always go either way and you can't control that. Instead keep morale high for your team and focus on your own personal performance and improvement. Good shotcalling and leadership can win many games by itself. Aim for long term improvement. Anything to give you an edge helps. League is a mental war too.

Whenever I enter a competitive game, I expect my teamates to be feeding and I think to myself "How should I play and what should I build to win?" and that is how I reached platinum. Now, to get higher from that you have to get teamates that won't actually feed and that is quite hard to find (I don't mean for them to not have like 3/10 because even that can be useful, but for them to participate in fights, deal damage and even if they die it will be a good play)

Minor tip I use myself; Mute the in game announcer. All she does is spout off who gets a kill and other stuff that reinforces tilting when you're faced with having to come back from a rough early game. /Mute all is a fantastic solution to player verbal abuse, but I like to count the in game announcer as a shit talking player :P

I also try to think of bad teammates as a past version of myself. I was there once. Nothing I can do about it cept play MY best. When I was that "bad player" I had a "better player" like my current self carry me more often than not.

The one thing in Dota 2 I really wish league had. The Bastion Narrator Announcer Voice pack.

I also put effort into becoming a hard to tilt player. I used this http://kayin.moe/iwbtg/ Free game to do it. I want to be the guy is a Tilt simulator. Try the demo if you doubt me. Also make myself beat Getting over it with Bennett Foddy.

The fact that someone feels the need to make a thread like this to begin with is a sad testament on the community at large.

Like it's actually that common that people will log in to play a 5v5 team game and view their own teammates as the enemy over the enemy team.

I'm not even saying the thread's bad. It's sad that the thread isn't bad.

One technique has always worked wonders for me:

Imagining all your teammates doing everything they do to the tune of Entry of the Gladiators (Vjezd gladiátorů) by Julius Fučík. Yes, that's the music clowns march to in circuses.

You can also use Fučík's name as a mantra in times of particularly high teammate stress. To fully appreciate the awesome power of the Fučík mantra, read this short article:

This is what awesome people do when they truly seriously honestly don't give a Fučík.
