We Need More Champions Like Ivern

By that, I mean champions that break normal rules that we thought were set in stone. His kit is full of the stuff and it really makes him a super interesting champion that can actually make an impact on the meta by himself! That is an amazing thought to think about for me and I want more of it. We need more Supports and stuff like this! As my mentor in League and Dota 2 taught me:

"Supports create the idea for a team composition and potential meta swing. Carries are what determine if those ideas actually work or not."

this is how you get stuff like Kalista KogMaw (reworked)Yasuo and Ekko ...

Only Kalista really introduced any mechanics that broke game rules to be honest with you. Kog'Maw's attack speed steroid broke game rules, but it wasn't really anything creative.

Dont give CertainlyToxic ideas.

after playing a few games with him on PBE, i have to agree. He has a very versatile and unique kit that actually impacts the entire fight rather than making him a "ME" champion, BUT not making him a slave champ like soraka

Soraka 's the master when people want her stuff. Kidding.

Also him adding temporary brush to modify terrain can give your team a huge advantage (or if used improperly) the enemy team. So the kit actually requires some decent skill to know how and when to use his abilities... and his passive is very different (and at high levels, is stupid good).

I saw the gameplay live show today, and have a few things I would like to share. First, I think Ivern's ultimate should have a some connection with the monster he freed. Otherwise it is just goin to be too similar to Annie's ultimate. My suggestion would be making his ultimate summons monster depends on the last monster he freed, and different monster summoned should have different passive abilities. For example, the blue buff which we have now has knock ups, or maybe wolves can attack fast and deal more damage rather than crowd controls. Birds might be more flexible and can gain you vision, and else. Or maybe just make his ult generally get buffed based on how many monsters he freed, which makes him a late game kind of champion. Second is about his q. I mean, it is quite op since minion does not block it. It will work perfectly with so many champions, like Oriana, or any tanks that suffer from short range. I don't know if this is going to be too op. Like it almost means one extra dash for tanks and assassins. I think this could be lethal to any squishy back line champions. The new mechanic of creating bushes is great as my opinion, but 30 seconds is kind of too short a duration. I mean, this is the very special part for Ivern, why don't you make it stand out a bit more? My opinion would be limiting the number of bushes Ivern can hold at a time, like pink wards. The number of the bushes increases as level up. It seems to me that 30 seconds limit is such a destruction to this awesome new mechanic.

I agree with the ult. It is very similar to Annie's; however, unlike Tibbers, Daisy does CC and does not linger after he dies (also after a short time of not taking damage, Daisy basically Warmogs her health back). But they could have given it a tad more flavor. as for the other abilities, I think they're good how they are. you can ALWAYS keep up at least one brush at low level, and the snare-dash actually will be stopped by minions, as I tried it just a little while ago while playing a few games on PBE.

you are saying a lot about a champ that you have never played. Also other champs have broken changed meta before bruma and yasou with there wind walls mechanics. You are literally spouting the same non sense in a HYPE that has been said for other champs.

When meta and certain things like game mechanics get break the shelve and other things. Ivern may not be as good for the game you think.

No, I don't usually hype about a new champion like I am about Ivern.

Azir had the potential to warp the meta, but that part of his kit was removed quickly in beta. Aurelion Sol had no chance of changing the meta. Taliyah had no chance of changing the meta. Yasuo and Braum, in fact, DID NOT CHANGE THE META! Yasuo and Braum both have not affected the meta really in any way except for Braum making Lucian a more popular pick.

With Ivern, entirely new game strategies are viable through his bushes and Q, making bush based champions and Juggernauts much more viable! Champions that were previously limited by mobility now have a way around it and, while that may be scary,it has counterplay since it is single target and relies on ANOTHER champion to hit a skill shot to make it happen. His Passive also makes sharing Red with Bottom in the early game a POSSIBILITY! That's super meta changing since Red Buff is incredibly powerful early game and makes champions that rely on attack speed and/or would benefit from it's slow much better in the meta! Ivern has HUGE potential to change the meta. Why? Well there is one main reason why. HIS OUTPUTS ARE DIFFERENT! Ivern does not just deal damage, CC enemies, and/or shield/heal allies. No, he can modify vision, donate buffs, and grants other champions dashes. That's a big thing that no other champion in the past has allowed you to do. Sure, Kalista had potential to give allies a dash, but it was always limited to her Black Spear partner. This has no limit and it allows many champions to be viable, especially in the LCS.

The issue with this is that those champions also often end up completely breaking the game. A lot of the rules are "set in stone" for very good reasons, and changing them presents potential for massive unforeseen consequences.

Meep Man1 votes

That's the difference between good and bad design. It's a risk worth taking for the future of the game in my eyes.

G4LLOWSC4L1BR4TR1 votes

I would agree only if they're willing to fix it properly when things inevitably go wrong. If, for example, Ivern completely breaks Rengar, the issue is really with Ivern rather than Rengar, and I wouldn't like to see Rengar nerfed into oblivion for it. Unfortunately Riot's track record is to destroy champions that make use of the thing making them overpowered and the problem's source at the same time and essentially obliterate the champion. See Sejuani with Cinderhulk and farming junglers with devourer/Feral Flare enchant.
