Thoughts and Discussion: Shyvana

Let's get right to it:

~ Shyvana doesn't have a passive, I am thinking of something like take her current Q (lower the power a bit) and move it to her passive with a cooldown that also reduces faster with her attacks - freeing up a slot for a real spell. (her "passive" can simply be she gets slightly more base stats, like 5 more armour at level 1, rather than remove 5 armour to give 5 armour for a "passive")

~ Shyvana's identity as a damage-tank is great, but just having damage is not a good reason to pick her because if you want damage you pick someone like Fiora and if you want a low CC super tank then you pick Dr. Mundo. So granting Shyvana something more special, in some kind of utility sense for her team, will give her a real reason to be picked over anyone else since she does that cool thing.

~ Shyvana is the fire breathing dragon that we all want. Unfortunately this is not really there right now and it be cool to make Shyvana feel more like a dragon, a super tough and hard hitting power house, but also just making her abilities feel more dragon-like in some form. For the record Burnout (W) and flying through the air with Dragon's Descent (R) are really cool abilities, also I feel are unique to Shyvana, so making her other abilities feel equally as unique should be something to go for here.

Fury of the Dragonborn (Passive): Whenever Shyvana damages an enemy champion or monster she gains 3% damage reduction for 2.5 seconds, up to 30%.

Dragon Form: Shyvana gains 5% damage reduction for 2.5 seconds, up to 50%.

Twin Bite (Q): Cooldown: 10/9/8/7/6 seconds; Range: 350 units Passive: Shyvana's attacks on-hit reduce Twin Bite's cooldown by 0.5 second.

Active: Shyvana unleashes two fire balls in the shape of a dragon's head in the target direction dealing 20/35/50/65/80(+100%AD)(+50%AP) magic damage, applied in two instances of damage, and exposing wounds for 4 seconds. Applies on-hit effects against struck enemies two times.

Champion basic attacks against these exposed enemies deal 11/12/13/14/15%(+4% per 1000 health) of the target's total armor and magic resistance as bonus magic damage (min 15/17.5/20/22.5/25 damage).

Dragon Form: Shyvana lunges forward.

Burnout (W): Cooldown: 12 seconds; Range: 150 / 450 units Shyvana surrounds herself in flames for 3 seconds granting her 30/35/40/45/50% bonus movement speed that decays over the duration while dealing 30/45/60/75/90(+20%AP) magic damage per second to nearby enemies. Shyvana's attacks deal 25% of this damage as bonus magic damage on-hit.

Burnout's duration can be increased by 1 second per basic attack from Shyvana against non-structures, up to a maximum of 7 seconds.

Dragon Form: Radius triples.

Flame Breath (E): Cooldown: 4 to 10 seconds [on key release]; Range: 750 / 350 units Hold Down Skill Key: Shyvana breaths fire towards the mouse cursor dealing 5/6/7/8/9%(+2% per 100AP) of the target's maximum health as magic damage per second (max 100 vs monsters), stopping at the first enemy champion struck and splitting off into a "T" a short distance. Shyvana can freely attack and move during Flame Breath.

Flame Breath can occur for up to a maximum of 6 seconds, cooldown increases based how long Flame Breath lasted for.

Dragon Form: Reduces magic resistance by 15/20/25% for 4 seconds.

Dragon's Descent (R): Range: up to 850 units Passive: Shyvana can cast Dragon's Descent when she acquires 100 Fury. Shyvana gains Fury while in her Human form at a rate of 1/1.5/2 Fury per second. Both in Dragon form and Human form Shyvana gains 2 Fury per basic attack. While in her Dragon form she loses 5 Fury per second, upon reaching 0 Fury she transforms back into her Human form.

Active: Shyvana transforms into a Dragon and does an unstoppable dash to the target location, pushing enemies she makes contact with while dealing 100/175/250(+70%AP) magic damage. Afterwards Shyvana remains in her Dragon form and enhances her basic abilities.

UPDATE: Removed the ground on Dragon Burnout since Q can apply on-hits synergising with Frozen Mallet, radius size is more dramatic with less normal radius and tripled while in Dragon form.

Honestly she is fine she just needs a much better passive, her kit in general is good. I wish riot would go back to looking at it, cuz even they liked the previous passive they were working on, only it was quite overpowered lol

Right now Shyvana has the same issue Kindred had with her passive till just a few weeks ago.

My idea kind of did that, except moved her Q to her passive since it isn't very interesting as a spell and made a new spell. Other than that I just wanted to have her E feel more dragon-like with breathing fire.

Shyvana isn't a tank. She can be built as a tank, but she is a fighter, mixing defensive and offensive stats. In fact, she is far closer to a Juggernaut than a tank. Adding more hard CC to her kit is not a good idea. You should not pick Shyvana because you want to CC enemies for your team. You should pick Shyvana so you can be a dragon, beating people to death.

All of that is a sub-class for a tank, so that was completely useless to state.

I only added CC during her ultimate, most of the time it is just Shyvana beating on people. But giving her more threat during the short high moment of power of her ultimate window will help her out quite a bit rather than give her more damage. And if a dragon throws you against a wall you would be stunned for awhile, an actual wall-stun makes no sense for Shyvana, but giving her small instances of CC does and also makes sense for her class.

Shyvana's official class is Juggernaut, which is a subclass of Fighter.

Juggernauts are not a subclass of Tank.

I more so like the Q now as an auto reset burst potential ability, rather than an ability going off without control in exchange for giving more cc in drag form. Not the right fit.

Stacona1 votes

Every Shyvana player uses the Q as an AA reset, but I don't think that is a good reason to keep a bland ability around and not replace it with something more interesting.

As far as CC goes, that is a very experimental idea and what I was actually trying to go for is try to do something that makes Shyvana more than just damage. CC might not be the answer at all, or at least hard CC, but a slow could be fine - or maybe the reverse - or a completely different utility. Something unique that isn't just damage would help shyvana out without needing to be stronger than other damage melee champions. For example Darius has his pull and Illaoi has her tentacle vessel ghost thing, I feel Shyvana needs something like that for her as well - something that really stands out as unique to shyvana.

Whats unique about her is the fact that she is a juggernaut that has gap-closers. giving her any form of slow or cc would likely push her to the best Juggernaut or Diver in the game. Simply because she would have the best of both worlds minus self sustain.

Heck she was the best of both back when the exp was larger earlier this year in the jg and she still had her W bonus dmg.

The fact that exp is so bad in the jg right now on top of her W passive being removed makes it so she is far less effective compared to junglers that can gank more often. She is still great at counter jungling however which is a good method to delay the opposing jg from doing anything.

Personally I'd love to see her W tick rate to be faster like all the other champions they changed to do so, as well as a new more reliable passive of course.

So then something more interesting would be have my dragon Q make Shyvana do a short lunge rather than stun, because it is not like i am in love with the idea of giving Shyvana a bunch of CC and I like the idea of having the anti-tank tank; obviously being a melee damage dealer has her naturally under juggernaut. But being the mobile juggernaut would be a good identity to work off of, mobile for a juggernaut to be clear and still relatively immobile in general.

For Burnout I think what would help out Shyvana is have it ground enemies because Shyvana was released before all the mobile champions were added to the game and leave the damage rate the same; or even just have the ground while Shyvana is her dragon form so its not always there.

Something else be nice for Shyvana would be adding to her juggernaut element with some kind of strong defensive steroid, like Darius and Illaoi both have heals, a heal wouldn't make sense for Shyvana but maybe she gets more and more durable the more aggressive she plays, increased while in dragon form, to really emphasis that brawling nature of a dragon that hits hard and is hard to kill.

I will change my ideas:

I will change my ideas:

I like the short lunge idea on Q, though burnout doesn't need a grounded ability to it, she can keep up with targets fairly easily with it as is, and including a lunge like Q even more so.

The current passive would be waayyyy nicer if it did the same thing it does now only instead of getting 5 armor/mr per dragon, have it be every 30 jungle creeps defeated.

Stacona1 votes

I like the thought of something that is more notice-able for the player for a passive that just always on stats, also the farming passive doesn't work as we tried this with Feral Flare, not to mention it will make it for Shyvana can never top lane.

The ground was the idea to help tune her balance better by making her better against mobile champions since the difference between her power against mobility and immobility is night and day, the ground can help her be more equal in power against both and have an easier time to adjust her power in modern league for she isn't too dominant or too weak.

RaiokuMoonscar1 votes

Well to be fair Shy can hardly ever top lane anyway there's way too many champions that she does poorly against there.

She is already better than other juggernauts against mobile champions since she has gap closers in her kit and all. It would make her too oppressive against champions that aren't very mobile if she is able to handle mobile champions just as easily has she handles immobile ones currently. Since the grounded debuff is the strongest anti kitting move in the game.

Basically all she'd have to do is build frozen mallet and very very few champions could ever get away from her if she touches them. Reason I think grounding would be way too much of an ability on her that would have way more effectiveness than Cassi's version of it.

Combined with a change of getting harder to fight the more aggressive she is, that's definitely considered over powered imo.

Stacona1 votes

Now you bring up Frozen Mallet the ground may not be needed since Q applies on-hits- but she would be played top lane when against tanks as a type of counter pick. But I rather avoid gimmicky passives and just give her something she can always use where it is strong when she plays aggressively and doesn't do anything for coward dragons, it is a passive that also helps her in the jungle and top lane and is more than just stats. You can get 6/10 stacks from a max duration E and then go in once you have some damage reduction on you as a type of top lane trading as something that helps out her laning.

I don't like things like getting rewarded for AFK farming, that isn't very good for the game since it has no interactivity within the game, where as something like a stacking damage reduction passive requires you to interact with your opponent in a meaningful way to activate your passive and can be powerful because it requires a meaningful action.

RaiokuMoonscar1 votes

I loved her old passive since it was always in use but riot tends to want to make her jg focused, likely because she was broken as heck when she could both top and jungle very effectively.

There should also be a cap of some sort to stop the afk farming method from what i mentioned earlier since that's no way to play either. Finding a proper passive for her troublesome to be honest since the rest of her kit is really good as is, her passive should be relatively less impactful. ( Riot should really just bring back her old passive and reduce its late game armor value is all )

Still though even without frozen mallet the speed she gets usually would make a ground effect way too much for a champion that can stick on someone without mobility like glue already.

RaiokuMoonscar1 votes

All the reduce resistances in that kit aren't necessary either, as well as giving her Rumbles Flamespitter. Shyvana's current E works great in its %health effect, especially combined with the other %health items available. The only issue about it is that her E no longer lanes well. I'm fine with that personally but I see nothing wrong with it keeping its pass through champions mechanic it had, as long as it still stops on first champion hit while in dragon form.

Dragon Form E could use a bit more flare to its impact point but other than art, Flame Breath does its job very well.

Stacona1 votes

They changed it, it stops on champions now, but i made it more unique with it as a hold down spell and when it hits a champion splits off into an AoE T skill shot. I think making it a flamethrower ability would be cool and feel more dragon-like.

The only shred I gave her is MR shred while in dragon form, make the ability feel like it melts your health and your MR

RaiokuMoonscar1 votes

I know they changed it to stop on champions. Saying giving shy a rumble like ability just doesn't fit if its not in dragon form only, and even then she already has enough fire abilities in dragon form. Just giving the E a plume like visual effect when it hits would make the ability look great, since it already works great.

She melts health fine enough as it is, without being completely unreasonable like those shreds would cause, since there is both %health and MR shreds in that kit.
