"Kills you through chronoshift" could you be more specific here? I'm pretty sure chronoshift is a zhonyas during the travel duration, so if you time it so the mark detonates during the shift you should dodge the damage, you probably popped it too early so the damage hit you after the shift. At least, that's how I believe chronoshift works, someone correct me if I'm wrong.

I Chronoshifted at ~15% health and the detonation killed me ~1.5 seconds after.

Also, abilities like Blade Waltz will follow you when you Chronoshift, instead of just cancelling.
