Can someone explain cull?

What I get from the tooltip is it's a 450g item that gives minor life steal and a tad AD to make last hitting easier and more sustain to stay in lane longer while breaking even on the gold once all the charges have been used. Is that it or am I missing something?

If this is the case why wouldn't mid and top use one also? Especially champs like viktor who need to lane without backing often in the early game and have such weak auto attacks.

Probably a stupid question but I was on a year long break while traveling for work so I missed the launch of cull.

You basically want to use it if you arent fighting and going to be stacking. Lets say you are trist and you back and have enough gold for a zeal you would want to get a cull too because chances are you going to just farm so you can stack up the cull for a power spike. Its like an investment.

you only use it as a substitute, or a compliment to, Doran's Blade so you will never see it on Viktor. It's for AD carries.

If you are short of an AD item like pickaxe(took bad trades) you can just back and take a Cull. The idea behind Cull as a starter item is to take it when you intend to do a passive farm lane. It was actually a decent item for old Kog'Maw because his W had halved AD so doing on hit damage wasn't so bad.

Despite being a passive item though, the lack of any HP makes you weaker against a Dorans laner.

As for mid/top, I've seen it on GP sometimes

I typically Take Doran's Blade for the HP, atk, and life steal.. and then if I die early (3-4 minutes) I buy Cull to regain some lost gold ground and stick under tower for the long haul.

I don't find it good for a first-take item, since Doran's gives hp + life steal + dmg.

Otherwise if you plan to stick under tower your first 15 minutes, cull is a decent choice.

But Yes, Cull is basically a free item after 100 minion kills.

its best bought in a passive lane of farming or as 2nd item after dorans blade on adc to try to catch up in gold if you get behind early

that is when and how it typically used

Once you've gotten all 100 stacks, you sell it back for a small gold profit.

Bad starting item but good first back. Once you get all 100 cs, you get a 280 gold profit since you sell. Buy in farm lanes and passive lanes. It's used on ad champions. Not mages. AD Assasins can't really use it since it doesn't do much. It's good on late game scaling champions like vayne.

I've seen top laners take it. Mid usually doesn't because they want to put that gold into more important things for them so they can hit their power spikes sooner.

At least that's the reasoning behind it, I think. Tbh you probably could and get away with it, if they're being passive and you don't need to invest that gold into combat stats instead.

its usually not worth it because the little hp the other starting item gives is HUGE early game

if your melee u cant get it at all most of the time because ur forced to trade
