Tryndamere?

I can beat tryndamere. I can win against tryndamere. I don't think he's broken in the sense that he should be permabanned or anything like that, I just have a question...

Why is Tryndamere the only champion in the game that can use his ultimate through any form of CC? I never understood that.

Granted, tryn is pretty easy to shut down if you can keep him from getting ahead and snowballing, and of all the split pushing champions in the game, he's probably not even top 5. But he's just such a huge pain in the ass to deal with if he gets ahead, mainly because you HAVE to burn several forms of CC on him just simply to stop him from wrecking your whole team, and even then you probably lose the fight because you've got nothing left for anyone else.

A champion should not serve as a walking CC soak with impunity. If I silence tryndamere, he shouldn't be able to use his ultimate. If I stun him or knock him up, he shouldn't be able to use his ultimate. He should have to strategically choose when to use his ult, not just "Ok, this next hit will kill me, better press R." There's no depth to it. There's no counterplay to it (when he's ahead and can 1-shot your carries).

I'm sure this post will be met with nothing but "LOL get gud %%%" and "HARHARHARHAR bronz nub" or whatever other trolly responses but I've been playing this game for quite a long time, and to me - nothing in this game seems quite as un-fun or headscratchy as tryn being able to use his ult through literally any form of CC. NOBODY else can do that.

Tryndamere from behind is worthless, and even a fed tryndamere isn't so hard to deal with if you can put pressure somewhere else on the map or single him out with a few forms of CC - but if a tryn is a good player and he's fed, and he's really doing a number on your team, it can often feel like there's absolutely nothing you can do. He just single handedly runs away with the game. Granted, this is a best-case scenario for him, but when it happens, it really feels bad to play against.

You either CC the hell out of him to try to help your carries through his ultimate and lose the following team fight because you have no cooldowns left, or he just 1-shots all your squishies and you lose because you wanted to save your CC for the team fight. That or you lose the team fight because 3 people went to tryndamere because he can 1v2 literally anyone mid-late game.

**TL:DR: ** An "ahead" tryndamere feels like shit to play against because it seems there's very little counterplay to his kit that doesn't involve decisions that are lose-lose for the overall direction of the game. Lose Lose situation 1: Blow all your CC on him and lose the team fight because you have no cooldowns, or don't blow cooldowns and lose because your squishies are dead. Loser Lose situation 2: Send 3 people to tryndamere to stop his split push and lose turrets on the other side of the map or don't send people and he kills 2 turrets and an inhibitor.

Solution: Tryndamere should be able to be silenced, stunned, or knocked up to prevent him from casting his ultimate. Either that or his damage or passive crit chance should be scaled back. Nobody should do insane almost-guaranteed crit damage AND be unkiillable, with the unkillable part being completely impossible to prevent. He's either a crazy damage carry or he's an unstoppable tank bruiser, I'm not sure its really a great thing that he's both.

Edit: Perhaps a duration nerf on his ult from 5 seconds to 4 or even 3 seconds would be sufficient. Give him enough time to make the decision to all-in or GTFO, and he'd better make that decision fast. He shouldn't be able to just stand around - invulnerable - and do as he pleases for a while, and then make that decision afterward.

Being useable while cc'd is the tradeoff for it only being useable while dying unlike other invulnerabilities that can be used to negate important burst cycles and retain a large amount of health afterwards.

Alistar and I believe Ekko can also ult during cc.

Trynd's ult already has a pretty solid skill test associated with it and despite the power of his ult he is still really bad in teamfights. A nerf like you describe would ruin him.

Barely anyone uses tryndamere to team fight, so balancing him around team fighting is basically a waste of time. The big takeaway here is that if tryn gets super fed, he's nearly impossible to deal with as a split pusher due to the fact that you have to send 2-3 people to him to stop him, and even then he might win - or at the very least he might STILL get the turret anyway. Meanwhile you just sent 3 people to stop him, lost the turret anyway, and now the enemy is pushing the other side of the map.

I provided more options for balancing than just the CC thing. Take away some of his crit or some of his base attack damage if he's going to be unkillable. Nobody needs to do insanely high damage AND be unkillable, that's why a lot of tank nerfs happen. They don't want tanks doing ridiculous damage and being unkillable. I'm not sure how the same line of thinking doesn't apply to tryndamere.

Ekko cannot ult during CC because his ult is also a reposition and a nuke. He's still unreasonably hard to punish for his mistakes though.

Alistar doesn't do ridiculous amounts of nearly-guaranteed crit damage.

Ekko has to plan his escape route before pressing R, otherwise he could potentially just kill himself with it.

Tryndamere .... just.... gets to be invulnerable for 5 seconds while dealing ridiculous damage, almost guaranteed crits, and a low cool down escape tool... not sure where the counterplay is.

Because the ability would be complete trash if he could'nt. You could hold your cc untill hes low everytime, thus making the ability pretty useless. Whats really unfair is that it lasts 5 seconds.

I agree. Perhaps a duration nerf would be sufficient. Something's gotta give, though. If/When he gets ahead, he's pretty cancerous to deal with.

No it doesn't. You've never made a significant point that Tryndamere needs a powerful nerf to his functionality. You claim you don't even have issues when playing against Tryndamere.

Why does he need a nerf? He's strong when ahead? Every champion is strong when ahead, that's the whole point of getting ahead: You get to be strong.

I agree completely, the point of this wasn't "OMG Tryn so broken rito plz" the point of it is what's the counterplay to tryns ult when he's ahead? What can you do that doesn't result in a lose-lose situation for your team? The point is that it just plain feels terrible to play against, you feel like there's nothing you can do.

At least when someone like jax gets ahead, you have options. You can CC him to death and focus him down fairly quickly. Tryndamere doesn't give that option. He gives you the option of "CC him to death and he still kills both your carries or takes a tower anyway because he's invulnerable, and there's nothing you can do to stop him from becoming invulnerable."

just play kayle... your ult is better then his and he has no cc to stop u from using yours.. plus you can use your on others

Barkley1 votes

The counterplay to any champion should never be "Play this other champion ONLY" from a balancing perspective. Not to mention I can probably count the number of good Kayle's I've seen in my time playing league on one hand.

Here's another balancing idea - Turret shots still hurt him through his ultimate, maybe? That way if he gets to a turret, you've got some sort of option as to how to stop him from taking it. I can't count the number of times I've seen 2-3 people go to stop a tryndamere from taking a turret and he gets it anyway because he can just be invulnerable for 5 seconds by pressing one button.

Easily your worst suggestion.
