And Irelia vs. Yasuo is a joke.... Yasuo can't handle her... Camille can win it WITH a gank...

I can agree with Jayce and Ryze. The other 3 all depends on who you're playing. xd

It doesn't really matter what you're playing when they can just pick on your team at their leisure. Did you by any chance see what have Vi and Camille achieved in lcs games so far? Especially Camille, who now has above 90% ban rate and 100% win rate.

Yasuo being annoying doesn't make Irelia being less annoying so yea, the fact that you get punished for doing what you are supposed to do vs Irelia is plain dumb and lacks counterplay...

well to be fair it feels bad to get punished for doing well vs irelia which is what her stun does

WoonStruck24 votes

If Irelia's stun punishes them for doing well, her E punishes her for doing well.

You can't make one of those stupid arguments without making the other.

Spicy Rice19 votes

How exactly does it punish her for doing well?

If she's losing or even, she gets a stub for free damage, or to run away.

If she's winning, she gets a slow do her opponent can't run away.

Either way, there isn't much counterplay except beating her so hard that she's scared to even cs

Ahristocats3 votes

she doesn't get a stun if she's doing well, therefore punished if she's doing well that's all

by the way a slow is so much worse than a stun and a lot of top laner can escape irelia if she slows instead of stun

ModAcademy Kayn5 votes

But if she's already winning, she's not exactly punished? Her Q makes her pretty sticky (or whichever is the dash)

Ahristocats4 votes

yes she's punished because she doesn't unlock a part of her kit

ModAcademy Kayn8 votes

Yeah, duh, but she;s LESS punished, because she is already in the lead. It's like having a broken arm in a Marathon, but the other guy has a broken leg.

If she only gets the slow vs Darius she's dead meat. I really only play darius so thats all I care about.

Sexualsaurus5 votes

There is a reason why they reworked Veigar ult. No champ should have the ability to punish someone for doing well.

Ahristocats2 votes

Zed

Sexualsaurus3 votes

Not really the same thing zed gains ad from using well executed ults on targets while the old veigar would do more damage to you because you were building ap.

It would be different if zed did more damage to a target based on their ad, the problem with the old veigar was that if you were destroying him as an ap mid he would be rewarded more damage cause you were building ap.

Usually when you win a trade top lane thats meant to punish them but irelia gains a stun from it, imagine if a champ like brand was rewarded an automatic stun from his q because he had less health than you. Riot even stated they wanna and plan on reworking irelia.

Remember when garen's villain passive worked on the person that killed him so when after you killed him he comes back top and is all of a sudden rewarded true damage on you.

TequilaZombie7 votes

Mordekaiser Your fed carry? No. MY FED SLAVE!

then explain to me why this champ Garen was reworked to do just that?

Sexualsaurus1 votes

Why does any champ exist? Because Riot thought it was a good idea at the time, riot have even stated they've regretted making champs such as Vladimir or Soraka.

Remember when garen's villain passive worked on the person that killed him so when after you killed him he comes back top and is all of a sudden rewarded true damage on you.

They nerfed the villain passive because it gave an unfair advantage for that sole reason.

ExhibitD4 votes

Who questioned why a champ exist? I asked why they reward garen for you doing well.

You explained why they reword veigar to not be rewarded for you doing well, so I asked you to explain why garen was reworked to do the thing you just said they removed from veigar for the same reason.

Snowman Arc2 votes

I don't think the two abilities are quite of the same magnitude. One is an occasional stun, while the other was just a one-shot that had 0 form of conventional counterplay.

Also, a lot of high elo Irelia players, and also me, are delibirately waiting till I get less HP than my opponent to use it. Like, I save up parts of my kit, especially my ult, to get lower HP than my opponents and then use my stun. Just because I had less HP, it doesn't mean my opponent did well. It means that they got outplayed.

I WILL NEVER UNDERSTAND THIS ARGUMENT AT ALL! You people do realize they could've just made it a stun flat out? As if a free stun is unheard of? RIVEN LISSANDRA PANTHEON MAOKAI. People should be thankful that she at LEAST has to have taken some damage to use her stun

They are scared to make the jump from la-la land to a place with actual reasoning because the impact would very well kill them.

Her stun is also point and click and lasts for five years.

Lissandra is only a snare, unless you're talking about her ultimate (its an ultimate). Pantheon's lasts for a tiny amount of time. Riven's also lasts for a tiny amount of time, and is not point and click and can in fact be dodged, because it has a tiny AoE.

ExhibitD3 votes

Liss isn't a good argument for Irelia and neither is mao. However both are kind of strong in their own regards. Liss' snare being AOE and Mao's having %hp tacked onto it.

Panth however is a really good comparison stun to stun balance.

Panth's stun is only one second at all ranks (one point wonder) Irelia's is 1 sec stun scaling up to 2 sec at max rank making her choose between maxing E or Q second.

Panth's is point and click and doesn't matter how low you are or he is, Irelia has a point and click that requires her to have even or less % hp than her target.

Panth's stun also refreshes his passive making it great for trading Irelia's is just a stun

Both panth and irelia's stuns deal magic damage granted at max rank irelia's stun does 90 more damage.

TLDR: both panth and irelia have very comparable stuns and they work well with their kits.

I can break down the comparison between riven and irelia too if you'd like.

In fairness, take Mei from Overwatch as an example. You're doing great, you're at the top of your game, but suddenly Mei get's the drop on you and you're Frozen-Headshotted, with small chance of getting away without a dash.

The entire process of Freeze-Headshot leaves a huge feeling of helplessness that feels really freaking bad. And if you do have a chance of bursting her down, she just Freezes herself, then walls away. We've all been there and felt there was nothing to do against her in that situation. I think the same feeling goes with Irelia.

You're doing great, you see you're clearly beating Irelia, and then suddenly, STUNNED. Now, everyone can have an instastun, but with Irelia, you get a sense of victory, that gets torn away from you, and all you can really do is blame the ability. Sucks.Compared to other people, the stun from Riven/Jax/etc came from a Normal Trade, something that is still undecided. But with Irelia, it's the anticipation of VICTORY, that get's torn away, which I think that people feel terrible about.

Now, I don't care to go look for all the length of CC other fighters, but it also may be the length of CC that matters in this case. Who knows. It could simply be that her Stun is longer than others (at max rank?) and the "I lose when winning" idea, comes from the fact that the "Low Health = Stun" is justification FOR the longer stun.

TequilaZombie2 votes

Because it creates a bit of an odd situation to balance. If her kit is good with the slow, it becomes too strong with the stun. If her kit is good with the stun, it becomes lackluster with the slow.

TS Media11 votes

While I've always been annoyed at Irelia... I start to think about it... just about everyone else has a stun without the extra gimmicks... so why does Irelia having one pose such a problem?

I guess it's just her play style that's annoying considering her stun is point and click and there's really not much ways to outplay her aside from other bruisers. Her next to non-existent outplay potential (for those NOT playing her) is what really makes her a pain in the ass.

KoggyStyle5 votes

counter play?summoner 1 item 3139 item 3140

Cowseed2 votes

Or you could just have a psychological damage battle and try to get her to E you with less hp than her.

Please nerf Zoe3 votes

yes, that's very easy, basically all you have to do is hide yourself in a bush waiting for her to back so you can be 100% sure you don't get stunned

Cowseed5 votes

You could just not attack her and farm. I mean like, is it so hard for people to assess a situation and deviate from there play style a tiny bit so they don't feed? Renekton has a point and click stun but sure let's complain about Irelia's stun for complainings sake. Not saying lizard man is annoying or anything but you can live with a lane bully having a stun but you can't live with another champ having a stun that could potentially end up only as a slow.

His Q heals 12% missing health per champ hit, max of 3 champs. This means in an unrealistic scenario, Darius gets a Q off at literally 1 hp with Spirit Visage, hits three of them, and heals 45% (36 * 1.25).

Now the reality of it is the Darius, anticipating his windup time, will Q much sooner than 1 hp (We'll say 20% or so), and the enemy team is for the most part smart enough to not stand in the deathtrap we call Darius' range. He catches out one or two of them, and heals maybe 10-15% max. 20% if he's extra-lucky. This is also assuming the enemy mid/adc didn't build the appropriate penetration stats and explode him with them.

Secondly, he only gets his AD from proccing Noxian Might. So either don't let him proc it, or if he does, stay out of his range for 5 seconds so it wears off. If you engage on a Darius while he's already got his passive proc'd, you only have yourself to blame when he rips your head off.

Thirdly, assuming the Darius is level 18, an entire third of his ults damage comes from Noxian Might. Let's do some quick math again.

Darius ult at rank 3 only does 300 (+75% bonus AD) true damage at its base. Each passive stack adds 60 (+15% bonus AD). Realistically speaking, most Darius players will build Black Cleaver as their only damage item, and have AD runes to add another 10 or so. So if he ults you at no stacks he'll do roughly 345 damage. This sounds like a lot, especially for true damage, but let's also consider this is lategame, where the mid and ADC can explode you from much higher health.

Now let's say he proc Noxian Might, on the other hand. The 5 stacks add 60 (15% bonus AD) damage each, and proccing Noxian Might at level 18 grants 200 Bonus AD. The stacks add 300 and the AD another 300, this is how he hits those monstrous near-1k ults.

But what if he only has time to hit 4 stacks? Well now he doesn't get the 200 bonus AD from Noxian Might, meaning not only does he lose out on Q/auto damage from the missing AD, but the missing bonus AD takes a full 300 damage out of his ult. 4 stacks vs 5 is huge on Darius. Especially since once he DOES proc Noxian Might, he only has 5 seconds to rip someone's head off, or he has to start all over.

What I'm saying is yes, Darius is tanky, and yes, he can hurt, but much unlike the mid and ADC, Darius has some serious buildup-time to reach his full potential (especially mid-teamfight where he's liable to get bursted down). And given how kitable he is, that's what balances him out.

TL;DR Darius' damage is almost entirely reliant on his ult, which is almost entirely reliant on his passive, which has a significant buildup time. He's also extremely kitable. Also his heal isn't nearly as strong as one would think if you math it out.

Please nerf Zoe1 votes

You forgot the bleed,5 stacks early hurt as hell and late isn't much different

You also forgot he has a team, its not like I can kite him as riven or whatever other meele champ,he heals and does stupid amounts of damage while also having a slow and a knock up and if my adc is behind the game is over.

The same applies to garen/illaoi/poppy

Garen basically presses Q on whatever target he can,and presses E+R..sigh I was 19-3 yasuo in a normal today and enemy 5-5 garen who lost lane to me with 0-3 did 1686 true damage..5 tank items+cleaver and his E shred shitted on me late game,I have no clue how those things are balanced or low elo stuff, even my ex diamonds-plat friends agree with me

Noxian Pride1 votes

That would be because you have a team too. If your team has no peel, it's on them for taking a bad teamcomp. If your team does peel vs Darius, he's going to have a much harder time doing much of anything. Poppy does well right now because her kit is incredibly flexible alongside being anti-mobility, I.E. much more difficult to kite once she's actually on you. Illaoi and Garen are, like Darius, incredibly kitable.

As for the bleed: If you're letting him get 5 stacks on you for free pre-6, either something's wrong with your strategy or you're going for the ballsiest play of the century. Darius excels at all-ins but has a tendency to lose poke matchups, including against melee champs that have mobility. In other words, there's absolutely no reason Darius should be able to get 5 stacks on you early (or even late if you're mobile) without blowing summoners or getting help from his team. If Darius can't catch you, he can't kill you. He also loses if you can out-sustain him, which is why a good Illaoi will out-bully the bully, so to speak.

Step 1: Get your team to peel. Step 2: Have your team kill him with him never able to reach you.

(Most) assassin's don't complain about true tanks shitting on them, I don't see why squishy mobile melee's complain about tanky immobile melee's shitting on them when they decide to get too close. You aren't designed to fight that. Your peelers are. Every champion fits a niche, and every one of those niche's have a counter. Otherwise the counterless ones would be insanely unbalanced. If you don't like the matchup, use someone that actually is good in it. Letting Darius or Garen wail on you is on you for getting within their reach. They won't do anything if they never reach you.

Chembaron Yamada8 votes

Irelia is unfun to play against for many people because she is stat checky. It doesn't require much strategic thought to play Irelia. Her goal is to jump on you with her point&click gapcloser and stay on top of your model while punching you in the face all the time.

She has no need to position herself to land a skillshot. No need to create distance between her and her enemy (Riot gave examples like: Darius Q, Camille W and Poppy Passive are all reasons for these fighters to consider creating distance to the enemy to receive their benefit). She jumps on you and hits you with all she got. If your numbers are overwhelming her, she can use a stun to change the tides of all the battle. That is literally the only strategic piece in her kit: does it seem like my enemy is dealing more damage than me? Stun him and outdamage him in that time.

That (along with that Irelia's kit doesn't match her fantasy of controlling blades with her will) is the reason why Irelia is considered for a VGU. Her kit is outdated and statchecky. No one wants to play against a champion who is basically just looking if he has bigger numbers than you or not. There should be strategy and counterplay.

Myrmiron1 votes

...you never actually played Irelia, did you?

Chembaron Yamada1 votes

No, but since I describe the experience fighting against her, I don't know why that really matters. Granted, I exaggerated about the lack of strategic value of her kit. There are tricks to pull off for Irelia like preparing minions for the Q reset and stuff like that.

But if you fight against her, there is no way for you to deny a part of her kit. If I play against Fiora, I can deny her hitting my vitals with right positioning and I can deny her stun by baiting her parry out and use my own cc when it is down. Playing against Poppy I can deny her her shield by walking over it and I can deny her stun by position myself that way she isn't able to hit me against a wall.

Meanwhile there is Irelia. I can't deny her her Q reset since I have no way to execute my own minions. I can deny her her stun.... by letting her outdamage me. That's not an attractive option for me. You see what I mean? There is not much in her kit I can play around.

Myrmiron1 votes

Now that sounds more reasonable. You're half right. More often than not Irelia - simply put - can't fight you. As Irelia it's crucial that you know the windows where you can fight your opponents, and these usually rely on levels. For example, you can fight Rumble very early, but not after his level 4 anymore - until somewhere around level 7. Contrary to that, you have to fight Jax early on because past level 11 you will lose every time. -> It's really just knowledge about Irelia if you want to beat her.

Edit: Here's why knowing this is important. Irelia HAS to snowball. In the current meta, where everyone deals ZOMFG-amounts of damage, you - as a toplaner that's not a tank - cannot afford to just lean back and farm it up. If you don't get 3 kills during laning phase and proceed to stomp your enemy, you'll be useless during teamfights. Which is why I don't even play Irelia anymore. And I used to play her a lot.

Elindiir1 votes

Unless you build Irelia with only 1 and a half damage items and full tank from there... Her utility in teamfights is similar to Leona in function and power....
