Has anyone else noticed how the Resolve tree is actually just a support-tank tree?

All of the masteries are far more usable as a support than a solo lane/jungler.

  • Recovery gives you 100 HP every 4 minutes. 5 armor/MR for every 100 (2 items) you buy is the even more worthless alternative. Doesn't really benefit solo lane at all. Its impact is just barely above null.

  • Explorer is obviously catering to supports, while its alternative, Tough Skin, is terrible and is never worth taking, even in the jungle.

  • Runic Armor is actually a decent mastery, but its alternative, Veteran Scars, is worthless on anyone that should actually want to go down Resolve. Change it back to %HP so its at least usable. Currently its better to go Runic armor whether you have innate shields/healing or not.

  • Insight specifically is an issue here because its alternative is unusable in a solo lane/jungle, while Insight is most helpful for supports. Seriously, Perseverance is utter garbage.

  • Swiftness and Legendary Guardian are the only choices you actually want to make, but they don't really offer enough.

The main reason people went down the Resolve tree was for keystones. But now Grasp is nerfed to the point where its basically not worth taking if you have any other possible choices.

With SotA being replaced, nothing really changes. People will still only go down Resolve for Courage of the Colossus.

Even fewer people will be using resolve, since most of the users have basically no hard CC or were junglers.

Bond of Stone is useless with Knight's Vow being introduced and Courage of the Colossus being added.

Can Riot at least admit that this tree is not good at all for solo laners/junglers?

It needs to be completely re-done from the ground up.

Agree. Season 4 felt a LOT better

Every season was better.

At this point, they should add a 4th tree that's for healing, tank, and aggressive supports. Completely re-do Resolve.

Either that or remove either Fervor or Warlord's and replace it with a support keystone.

Fair's fair.

.......Are you serious?

Most junglers, even at high MMRs, take Explorer for the extra MS.

That 2 damage per hit doesn't make or break any legitimate junglers. Kite properly and its entirely unnecessary and becomes more and more useless as the game goes on.

**Eve isn't an excuse for this mastery to be as poor as it is. ** Its almost as if Riot doesn't want her to be able to easily clear! What a concept!

Let's take a look into that shall we? Just pulling the first few jungle games off of pro builds

Any champ who's specing Resolve is specing Tough Skin. Since none of the recent games were on tanks, here's some tank games

Sejuani , and another Gragas Amumu

I could go on, I'm not going to though. You can feel free to stop talking out of your arse now.

"Tough Skin, is terrible and is never worth taking, even in the jungle. " - First clear is the most important clear. A lot of masteries and rune setups are important to make sure you get through your first clear as quickly and healthily as possible. There are times when the most successful jungle builds have champions like Amumu, Sejuani, and Zac taking Attack Damage or Attack Speed marks, despite those being borderline useless after the first clear or two.

2 extra damage per monster attack is not trivial. If you're doing a full clear, then you're saving yourself about 120 health. (Count it yourself for your favorite champ.) Depending on your champ, that might mean you can start with a pink ward and smite Wraiths instead of red buff, which can help you snowball one or two lanes.

Is Resolve weaker than earlier season Defense trees? Maybe. But I'd still take it on tanky junglers over the other two, no questions asked.

Also, no clue on solo laners. I suck at top lane, and none of my mid laners are remotely tanky.

Jungle is piss-easy now. Optimizing for first clear pretty much only applied during season 1.

Going attackspeed on pretty much any tank often helps another aspect of their kit. Mao's heal, Rammus' free AD, Sej's passive/W, Amumu's MR reduction. And yet, those champions often still do not run attack speed or AD.

2 extra damage per auto is trivial. You get heals from the jungle item. You get heals from SotA (20 per kill, 5% later). You get heals just for killing a large monster. That 2 extra damage negated is not necessary, and many people will opt for explorer instead because of this.

Resolve is infinitely weaker than previous seasons' Defense. If you don't use CoC well, its going to be better to do 18/0/12. Some are even going to go X/X/0 because the tree is that useless to them without SotA, even if they want to get tankier.

In the new jungle, almost every jungle champ can do a full clear, minus krugs or raptors if they are not an efficient jungler, to hit level 4 at ~4 minutes. Without using a single potion.

As far as solo laners, the only useful parts for people that want to be tankier are T3 and T5. None of the keystones really compliment most well. Grasp is weak as hell since its nerfs, but usually used as the only viable option. SotA on many that don't auto attack as much.

Haven't played preseason jungle at all. So if everything you said was in that context, then everything I said (and most of the rest of this post) is irrelevant. I am in an imaginary world that had current masteries and jungle, but added CoC :)

Damage mitigation is like CDR in that it has increasing rewards the more you stack (up until you hit the max, i.e. always at full health).

If you're taking 100 damage per auto, blocking 2 is pretty trash. If you're taking 8, it's a lot better. The same applies in extrapolation to health loss over time. If you lose a net 1000 health over 4 minutes, saving 120 isn't much. If, after potions and damage mitigation you're only losing 200, saving 120 is major. That is, in summary, heals from jungle item / plants / etc. make the 2 blocking more efficient, unless you're already at your desired health level without it.

Final note on the not using a potion- It's not just finishing the clear. It's finishing the clear with enough health to safely attempt a gank. Is the new jungle that easy? (Honest question, not sarcastic.) Because with the current jungle, there are whole tiers of differences. On Zac, I can do a full clear and easily gank or solo dragon with just 1 potion (assuming no leash, since this is in custom games). With Nunu, I need 3 potions. On others, I don't have enough health left to do gank/dragon, and some I can't even finish the full clear with 3 pots.

As of now, new jungle is that easy.

Use one HP potion and you'll be at full HP if you weren't already, barring champs Riot wants to have a really hard time like Eve.

Noct used to have issues doing a full clear this season. In season 7, he finishes nearly full HP.

Since when does Eve have trouble clearing the jungle....

I play Taric and still won't run resolve. Its not good now and prob still won't be good after this.

No doubt Courage of the Colossus will be the sole reason people go down the tree.

Yeah, I generally run Fervor on him, but now that it'll be worse on Taric, I'll probably try out courage. If that doesn't work, there's always Thunderlords. It'll be OK probs.

Insight is just the most powerful non keystone mastery in the game on anyone, full stop. If it was in either of the other trees it would also be a must take, in Seasons 3, 4 and 5 most people speced 9 into utility specifically for this mastery. It's just super strong.
