Why does Master Yi deal true damage?

He already scales really good into late game. Also he can run off with crits like an ADC. So why the true damage? Just curious.

He is a melee carry.

Most ranged carries also have damage steroids, and some of them also have true damage in their kits such as Vayne or Twitch. To give players a reason to pick Master Yi, he must have better abilities than ADCs to supplement his short range.

Otherwise, the ranged champions will pretty much always have an advantage on Master Yi since they can just poke him while he closes the gap.

thats because he IS an adc.

he deals true damage, so he can keep himself relevant in duels. melee carries usually have very powerful kits, since they cant deal damage from a comfortable distance like ranged carries.

so instead his damage is more reliable than usual.

the better question is, why does vayne deal true damage? and why is it % max health on top of that?

Vayne has basic attacks, and only basic attacks. All of her abilities are actually just basic attacks. Do you know how easy it is to counter that with blinds/thornmail/Omen/Frozen Heart/Rammus?

not anymore. since they buffed bork for no reason, thornmail doesnt really work anymore as soon as an adc grabs it.

well its still a spell that has a cooldown, think about it. Super squishy, had to stand still to heal, has to run in at the enemy and go all in.

Well he loses the passive bonus AD he gets when it's on cooldown and try to CC him as best as you can when it's up and he'll lose a ton of his damage that he'd be doing to you.

for several reasons

Master Yi is supposed to be the highest lategame DPS champion in the game

Being primarily a jungler, he needs to be able to deal with the fact that none of the jungle items can really replace anything in a core ADC build. With Wuju Style he is able to go without an arpen item.
