Top lane blows right now!

I use to love going top lane because it had the most variety, it didnt feel like the winner of top lane was decided in champion select back then. Now a days top lane consists of mostly Darius Nautilus Malphite Fiora and Quinn with the occasional Trundle . These 5 or 6 champions just destroy the competition. Malphite and Nautilus are practically lane bullies that cant die and have fuck loads of CC for teamfights or for setting up ganks. Darius and Quinn auto win lane unless camped. Fiora is a scaling time bomb that is strong throughout the entire game. These champions have pushed Jax Irelia Rumble LeeSin Jayce Kayle Maokai Renekton Singed Riven and Vladimir out of the top lane. Im not saying these champions are bad, but they just feel outclassed right now. Even with Malphite i have 13 wins and 2 losses in ranked and i have never even played malphite before this season. Im playing alot of Malphite and Nautilus because they win me games despite the fact that they require no skill to use them. Then why am i complaining? because i hate playing them, they are so boring and i really want to see champions like Riven back in the top lane again. Atleast when i beat Riven back then, i know i just outplayed her

Nobody's forcing you to play "no skill" (seriously, there's gotta be a better name for that) tanks like Malphite, if you wanna play X so badly, just play X. If you're losing as X maybe you need time and practise to adapt to the current meta.

I've been maining top since season 2, so meta shifts have hit me multiple times. If you want to play a champ that's out of the meta you'll have to adapt your playstyle accordingly. Renekton still works like a charm by the way, just use your ridiculous early game power.

i mean i have been playing top lane since season 2 as well, but top lane currently seems to have the smallest champion pool with the least skillful champions at top lane since i have started playing.

Well, personally I enjoy champions that aren't mechanically intensive. It allows me to take on the leader/shotcaller role I'm comfortable with. The thing with competitive gaming is that the meta is shifting almost constantly, and there's always gonna be people that dislike it. Like back in the assassin meta I pretty much quit, 'cause I just couldn't deal with the twitchy-ness of the game. I imagine people that like fast-paced reaction-based games loved that meta, while RTS/Strategy players like me weren't too fond of it.

I wouldn't say the champion pool in top right now is small, but I'm inclined to say you can play any champ at any time if you're comfortable enough with them. What kind of champs do you usually play? Maybe I can help you fit them into the meta right now. I can't help you to get matched against Riven though :p

Imo top lane has always sucked. Always been the least interactive and always a really small pool of champs who make no one else viable top

Irelia and Jayce player here, I never really have too much trouble with any of these. Maybe it's just where I am at in rank but they don't really phase me. Karma really gets me through Quinn and Fiora.

as Irelia at least, if you wait for them to burn their game changer (quinns flip, fioras riposte, Karma's ult) you use a minion to hop-scotch to them, then while their big defences / offences are down you just punch them in the face.

They just need to change banner of command so that magic damage can actually damage it atleast 55-60%. The biggest counter to Naut and malphite are heavy AP poke champions, but banners makes it almost impossible to do anything because MR, give them AP and give them a seige minion that you can never take down. Nah not cool riot.

i really find nautilus not much of an issue. maybe because im playing garen, but i may not be able to kill him, but neither will he be able to kill me. usually just stacking defenses and farming, which makes the lane rather relaxed.

same thing goes for malphite. only that i feel i can definitely kill him. especially since he runs out of mana fast early on.

darius and fiora are skill matchups. quinn is exceptionally stressful.

maybe it wouldnt be so bad if riot already buffed dorans shield against ranged champions. i dont even feel like its an issue that adc can go top lane. but we dont have enough tools to deal with them.

in the past i rushed thornmail against these matchups, but they trashed that item and strategy. so it left a void.

top lane is easy peasy... game is simple so simple they have bots playing in game that go 0/22/0
