I know exactly why they rush it. Because they accumulate crap tons of gold and it's such a strong item... but doesn't that take the excitement out of itemization if you spend the rest of the game building down in price and power instead of up to higher tier items?

The passive isn't really erased though, it merely changes into BotRK's passive which has a minimum damage of 10, meaning it never loses out on damage.

same for crit in a sense too. like on ashe crit is 100% making it just an on hit damage amplification. While crit scales off ad, botrk scales off enemy hp. but end of day just damage amp. just like devourer
scales off jungle camps...
i wouldnt mind rushing zeal especially if i'm low on attack speed if i get lifesteal or ad quints instead. wouldn't so much be rushing just I'd rather not feel as behind for doing so.

But hey, there's items like Phantom Dancer and Botrk that build out of smaller items afterwards. It's just IE (and later, BT) that's a bit no-fun (but a required no-fun).
MmaqTt7b0K1 votesInstead of rushing it you could try B.f. into an early avarice, it helps a lot if you are a bit behind in gold and need the dueling potential with youmuus. Imo Youmu is an insanely good purchase on Vayne/Twitch

With that it demagnifies the scale of normal lane snowballing through harasses and cs'ing, hence everyone is rushing the hard hitting first item to actually make an advantage over the opponents' heads.
Also with the same logic, it's another reason why cheaper items aren't really favoured at bot as there is not much reason buying them due to lack of impact.
For the most part that is.
Try doing that in other lanes, one would just get crushed 90% of the time unless you are countering the enemy laner by default.
Marthian1 votesIt's because the items that build into it alone are very good and soften building up to it. Not to mention it's arguably the biggest DPS increase for almost any ADC (especially if you have an AS boost)
