Riot's Approach to Minion-Master Champs

What is the current stance on champions like these (Malzahar, Yorick, Azir, etc.)? Has anything been learned or changed since Azir? On Azir's release the whole idea was that they were trying to find a way to do this archetype correctly because previous examples were not done well. Was Azir a success?

With Yorick especially, a rework coming on the far horizon, what is Riot's approach going to be since he's the next minion-master on the list?

Opinion Time: I really disliked Azir's gameplay (liked his theme though), I never play this champion, I feel like the focus on the minion went overboard with 2 basic abilities dedicated to controlling the minion (on significant cool-downs, so mistakes are hugely felt), and the 3rd basic ability relying on the minions. Doing my job with him seems way to difficult.

AD Malz is still the best minion master champion.

It's a shame he really only works well on Dominion.

(hard cap him at two Voidlings, make basic attacks give half a stack, a summon when two voidlings are out instead full-heals the oldest Voidling and extends its duration by 7 seconds)
