Do you think the Viktor changes ultimately made him healthier?

as a recap;

Viktor is supposed to be less bursty and more sustain damage, E has a longer delay and R now ticks every 2 seconds.

I've been spamming Viktor since the rework hit, trying to get a good feel for how he plays now. I don't think this change has made viktor better for the game. the arbitrary delays added to his spells now require them to have obscene base damage and scaling in order to feel good; this makes him very frustrating for anyone caught by CC, or at any point after Viktor buys a rylai.

these changes didn't accomplish what they wanted either; Viktor is still a nuke mage, zone control comes at a not-close second. the best plan of action is still almost always to dump your entire rotation on closest squishy enemy; but now you have followup with your ult's second tick, which gives you, I would argue, unfair presence in teamfights for someone who just deleted the enemy carry. worse, there's a complete lack of clarity with his ult; the lazy VFX added to its ticks is impossible to see in busy skirmishes and barely visible otherwise, so it seems like people suddenly lose fat chunks of their health for no reason.

now that he's back to having powerful, safe waveclear on top of all of this, Viktor is no doubt going to see a lot of play at higher levels. It's likely that he'll end up drawing nerfs, and for good reason; he's too powerful. I think I have justified fear in that he'll go to the same place Mordekaiser and Skarner are in after this, where a combination of numbers and lack of satisfaction put him in the dumpster and ignored by Riot.

From playing him quite a bit before the mage overhaul, he's gotten weaker. Feels like he doesn't make enough of an impact in teamfights like he used to, and thus whichever team he's on feels like it's constantly underperforming.

I feel the opposite, he's definitely too strong. I've had very strong games and almost no bad ones

it feels bad because there's not much visual impact to tell you otherwise

Hmm, do you rush upgrading his hextech core first? I find myself still running into the problem of only having enough mana for a couple spell rotations, but I also don't upgrade that until 3rd or 4th item.

I agree there, his & syndra's visuals look worse than before, reminds me of what happened to xerath :/

yes, usually I get the full hexcore very early relative to other Viktors I see. It feels like the best choice now

I get first upgrade before anything else (of course), then depending on how the game goes, I get Rylai's, then finish perfect hex core. If the game's going rough then I usually get Abyssal (AP threat) or Seeker's -> Second/Perfect Hex

The increased movespeed on your ult is way too valuable now that you need to keep it moving, I very rarely have mana troubles outside of early laning

I'm a complete Viktor main. Outside of the occasional fancy, I'll be playing Viktor. Viktorviktorviktor. And I can immediately say, with zero hesitation, that these changes are poorly-inspired.

As you say, he's too strong. But it's not like before.

Pre-update Viktor had serious damage potential. There is zero denying it. But, in the same breath, he was very vulnerable.

Now, however, Viktor's burst is weird and divided.

  • He still does too much Q damage, but now he has this absurd shield on top of it.
  • His E's aftershock is sitting a delay just high enough to turn it into a luck-based cast; reliant more on your enemy being dumb, then you being quote/endquote "A diabolical Villain".
  • His R is stronger, but ultimately unreliable. An ability that most Vik players had trouble micromanaging in teamfights now applying ticks of BURST damage? Ridiculous.

I've noticed I'm stronger in straight-up duels. But if my E is doing less than it used to and my all-in is less efficient than before, where does that leave me?

My Q.

Viktor's shield.

Viktor got mechanical nerfs to justify an Udyr buff. :P

i agree for the most part

I think Riot should redo the rework and put a little more thought into it next time. His laser and ult should be the bulk of his damage; Q's first hit should be all utility focused, with only the followup existing to give him burst.

i would like to see more on his laser, quite frankly. it's an interesting ability and i wouldn't mind them loading it up a little more.

I'm just holding out hope he gets a full-on rework somewhere down the line which brings back his 3 original augments, but updated to be more like his post-rework augment.

That is, each augment provides different stats and has multiple upgrades that affect each of his abilities.

I wouldn't even care if they messed with his mechanics, then. I'd just switch out my playstyle to another augment until they tweaked him up. :P

I didn't play Viktor pre the changes, but he was free yesterday so I gave him a go. To me he looks fine: he is not good when behind, but good when ahead.

Over all his winrate went up, so I guess they were buffs. People are changing their opinions now from what I've seen and everyone is saying "oh I was wrong maybe these are good".

i wasn't asking if he was better or buffed.

i'm asking if he's better for the game.

I know, but I was only able to give feedback from what I know. I didn't play him previous to the changes.
