how to make Sona's gameplay less binary

Disclaimer: difference between "less binary" and "balanced" is that "less binary" makes balancing easier. I am talking about making Sona less binary rather than immediate balance.

--Give her power chord passive a time limit for holding onto the stacks, decaying if unused (similiar to Ashe Q stacks) --make her power chord stacks reset to 0 if she uses a spell while at full stack --buff the power chord effects in return:

  • more damage on Q powerchord
  • more dmg reduction on W powerchord
  • more slow%&slow duration on E powerchord

-- give her annie's passive Graphic User Interface(?) for opponents to react on

these changes would make Sona a lot more dependent on managing power chord passive. Sona players would no longer be able to faceroll WQWWEWQQEWQWEQEQ and occasionally throw in a basic attack whenever they feel like it. This change would also make laning phase a lot less binary since sona would not be able to save up her 3rd stack for as long as she wants, giving her times of lows and highs.

or just give her skillshots O,O

Same thought. The change suggest (mainly on empowered Q) would make AP Sona even stronger.

that would be a full scale rework rather than something riot would ever do for temporary measure, not to mention such could possibly delete current champion called Sona and create a new champion called Sona. But yeah, other than that, cant go wrong with skillshots.

Also, some parts of the most balanced champions' kits are not necessarily skillshots. Nami, for example still manages to have some form of skill expression even on her click-and-point W and E. Jhin 's passive and Q, for example, still manages to leave some form of skill expression despite being click-and-point.

But then maybe what i think is way off the direction Sona really needs to go.

Nami has 2 skill shots out of four skills when you said she has no skill shots in her kit.

Jhin has 3.

i thought "parts of champion kit" could mean not all 4 skills??? [sg-lux-2]

All of these suck AND you don't know what "binary" means.

"binary" in my context would mean stat-checking (like pre-rework xin zhao) Mind telling me what you believe "binary" means tho?

Binary means either 1 or 0.(you know, after the binary computer language)

1: thing succeeds 0: thing fails There is no 2.

Sona's "binary" gameplay isn't in her passive(which is by far the most dynamic of her skills), it's in her actual skills.

Her q either hits enemies, or it doesn't send out bolts. There is no other options. She always hits the two closest enemies, prioritizing enemy champs. Making it not binary would be along the lines of making it a skill shot, or at least something she has to aim manually.

Same with her w. It auto targets the champ with the least health on your team. Either there is an ally in range or their isn't(in which case you still get the heal and shield). Making it manual targeting would also make it less binary(by a little) since she could mess it up.

Her e is just an aoe speed boost.

What does your changes do to help combat these things? Nothing. It just makes her passive harder to use and way more telegraphed.

Her passive is also binary, though. Auto-attacks are all binary in nature.

And his changes do nothing to affect that either. They just make it harder to use her passive while putting her in a more dangerous situation to do so.

None of this changes the fact that she stat checks you. All it does is make her kit clumsy as hell.
