Small sample size makes Winrates unimportant

People need to be willing to accept a viable strategy as a viable strategy. Just like "int sion" has been dominating the scene so has Kayle/yi Taric/Yi. Don't be mad at the strategy, be mad at the unwillingness to play different to counter the strategy with your own strategy.

If you're mid, and taric is funneling their jungle, maybe you should funnel your jungle?

A better strategy to counter the funnel would be to pick someone mid who is not easily dove. The best choice I can think of is Tryndamere. The Yi/Taric relies on Yi getting fed and then just diving the enemy mid laner whenever they want. If you have Tryndamere mid, diving will not be an option for them because Tryndamere's ult lasts 5 seconds while Tariic's only lasts 2.5 seconds. Another option would be to just pick someone super tanky like Maokai, Nautilus, or Rammus.

i like how the title is something interesting and off meta, but its just someone pinning it to a "nerf X champion" post. was hoping for some cool taric build.

I am 16-5 in normal draft with taric mid in the client stats. I know this isn't ranked but 16-5 should be enough evidence that it works. I just rush manamune followed by tank items and usually do quite well with it. You would think Taric would be terrible against long range mage but I actually find them to be easy to deal with. Most of them have no mobility and die in 6 auto attacks once I stun them.

yi is fine funneling is not.

While the gold funneling strat is one of the few legit/non-cheaty strategies that riot doesn’t want in the game, I’d be lying if I said it was a major issue.

66% WR is ridiculous but

  • low pickrate
  • the fact that two people are paired up and constantly communicating will increase the winrate anyway
  • It can still be countered
  • new tower changes at least made the strategy less effective.

It’s just not a big enough problem to warrant a response anymore. (Plus monster hunter hurt people who where just doing well in the jungle legitimately, I was trying to learn jungle the last half of this season and every time I got that little icon I groaned to myself)

Disagree.

The thing is, it takes coordination and teamplay to counter it, things that are lacking in solo Q. That's why it's effective. You aren't going to see that strat in a pro game these days, because the counter is easy if your team is cohesive.

Any strategy that is that much of an outlier deserves a response. It's a fun-killer. If you're looking at it from a balance perspective only, then yeah, it's probably fine. But Riot is a business that relies on entertaining its users to survive, so leaving a fun-killing strat viable isn't a smart option imo.

It's because that one only guy playing him mid is actually good at the game.

/nt It's a boosting strat. Every single game the majority of taric mid players have played with a mastery Yi duo. The winrates achieved by some of these players is insane. one guy I'm looking at has a 98% winrate over 48 games.

It's not off meta, it is one of the most effective tactics available, it just requires a lot of setup to do, which deflates its playrate.

Don't even try to tell me that the 0.1% pickrate justifies it.

the 0.1% pickrate justifies it.

edit.: nvm, its apparantly still the boosting strat.

I mean, considering how it's a strategy only used by boosters and with such a small sample size, a large winrate is to be naturally expected right?

What win percentage do you expect smurfs to have exactly? Duo queue boosters are suppose to run absurdly high winrates, they are playing against much worse players.

If there were any duo queue boosting strategies that didn’t run a high winrate, that would indicate a problem.
