Is Nasus even counterable? (Nasus QQ thread. Salt everywhere.)

Naomi CoffeeGoat··8 votes·2,080 views

Every single game it's always the same. He gets his stacks one way or another and carries the game because he two shots turrets even without minions and is too tanky to face whatsoever.

-If you're too aggressive in lane you push his turret and he gets stacks. -If you aren't aggressive then he gets his stacks. -You let him push to your turret and he apparently can be easily ganked. (I've just had a game that after ganking him ONCE near our top's turret he warded up way more often and even just went back to around his turret until the waves evened out in his favor.)
-Harass him in lane and his passive just lets him heal it back up.

I pay all of my attention available at top lane when Nasus is in game, constantly looking to gank him if I can while still trying to address other lanes. He's somehow always pushed against his tower at every moment. Constant warnings to my ally to not push the lane. If the game doesn't end fast enough, he gets all of his stacks and eliminates everyone on the team and takes our turrets. To even put a stop to this champ it at least requires 3 available allies to devote attention to him. But guess what? While you were dicking around with Nasus trying to two shot the turrets, the enemy team just took dragon or an objective.

I hate this champ in every way possible. He requires so much baby sitting and has made me want to just quit the match every game he's in. His early game is hardly weak. If things get rough for him he'll wuss out and just lifesteal everything back up with the only end to his onslaught is him running out of mana.

You kill him in lane. It's not hard. Everywhere outside of bronze/silver people hate nasus on their team.

That's pretty helpful advice. I feel so much better at the game having learned that new mechanic.

Kill Nasus? I guess maybe in a 3v1, after he uses his ult, forcing you to run and lose a turret. Then, as you, your jungler, and your support/adc try to kill Nasus, like the OP said, you lose out in objectives.

Then again, I'm not even level 30, what do I know?

Lugg1 votes

Yeah, let's ignore the fact that Nasus has a 56% win rate in challenger during the last month.

9baksQuJhb1 votes

During which time he was played in just 45 games across all regions in challenger, and still was only in the 52nd percentile in terms of win rate.

Lugg1 votes

45 games is a pretty good amount to give a decent pool. And he was ranked #43 out of all 124 champions. So he is played successfully at every level in the game.

9baksQuJhb1 votes

Played succesfully =/= uncounterable and unstoppable.

Lugg1 votes

I'm just stating that Nasus is definitely viable at all levels of play.

PK Arcfire4 votes

I feel your salt. You tend to find Nasus at top lane. You have three options at this point, turret hug and die as Nasus ults and turret dives walks in and ignore the turret, run and lose turret, or push and die, as Nasus demolishes you. With all the salt we generate, we should just start a business together.

Teemo Darius Riven Garen Vladimir Fiora there are a million ways to make his early game hell and snowball from there. He's super weak early, just abuse that and don't let him free farm once laning phase is over. The only reason people QQ about Nasus being OP is because those people don't know his weaknesses and let him stack freely, instead of bullying him and taking advantage of the inevitable 4v5s and forcing objectives. He's also very easy to kite in teamfights, provided you're not the one being withered.

And just as a general rule, if someone says "x champion simply can't be stopped and has no counterplay so you might as well consider the game lost", they're full of shit.

Bully a good nasus and his minions will retarget you often causing your lane to push.

9baksQuJhb2 votes

You say that as though having your lane push lets him win or nullifies anything you did to him. Harassing generally pushes lanes, in what world does that natural facet of the playstyle make bullying useless? It hasn't so far.

Lugg2 votes

I'm sorry, but Nasus isn't super weak early. He has great sustain and can easily wear out most opponents. And if you do actually bully him early and get ahead, at the 35-40 minute mark, it doesn't matter anymore, he just starts destroying you.

9baksQuJhb1 votes

He has great sustain mid/late game once he gets enough stacks for 10/15/20% life steal to matter, as his regular AAs don't do diddly. And if he's using that sustain on you, it means he's not stacking. If he's using it to stack, it means he can't hurt you for shit.

lB2kGRlc8y1 votes

Seriously, his lifesteal doesn't heal him a lot when its used to take the last 40 health from a minion, people, bitch too much. If he's relying on his sustain to keep him in lane, he has to auto minions, which pushes his lane. If you're smart and zone him from minions, he can't stack or heal, so there's you're counterplay. If you're forcing him to harass you with Spirit fire, you've already won, the thing costs a lot of mana, and pushes like no other.

Lugg1 votes

Even though his early game is the weakest area, he is eventually going to get his farm. Once he has that, he starts farming champions.

Hoi Im Temmo2 votes

This is completely accurate. Even if I COMPLETELY destroy him in lane, I have STILL lost to nasus just telling his jungle to def top, and allow him to farm jung for a bit. We even tried to counter jung, but he just runs. We cant end fast enough to deny him farm, and the more we attempt to deny him, the longer it takes to end.

Beerstein2 votes

He's the only champ I know of where you have to either shut him down 100% with utter domination or he'll come back strong no matter what. No other champion is like that, with other champions beating them in lane and doing better than them is enough, with nasus you have to absolutely dominate him. In a game with skill based MM that's where the problem comes into play. You have to absolutely shut down and utterly dominate a player of equal skill with a team ready to back him up (JG) if things start going South.

LifeCyclesTWA1 votes

Nasus is a slow-bot and shit compared to 95% of all the champs in the game until he grabs some stacks for his Q. Win asap, if the other team has a Nasus that means that its a 4v5 for the first 20+ minutes of the game. Make use of that.

Hoi Im Temmo1 votes

While this IS correct, its really frustrating to be told "dont play versus the enemy team, play versus the enemy nasus" JUST by him being in the game.

lB2kGRlc8y1 votes

Nasus is part of the team, that's his dynamic, to snowball out of control when left alone. Do you often let the enemy ADC farm bot unchecked? or do you gank the little twerp whenever the opportunity presents itself? Hell, if you have a lulu or a lux whose worth a shit, even a 1k stack nasus can't contribute much to a fight, since they'll never be allowed to get into melee with anyone.

Hoi Im Temmo1 votes

But it isnt about him being left alone. Even if your jungler ONLY GANKS TOP he will eventually snowball. There is no "He has to do well early" there is no "well, theres no coming back from that" no matter WHAT you do, nasus WILL eventually get fed, and if you dont win before that, you lose.

Its like playing time crisis, with a way to slightly extend the time you have left. And league is supposed to be about strategy, not a mad panic rush to out race a single champion.

lB2kGRlc8y1 votes

As stated before, even a stacked up nasus can be easily zoned from the team provided you have ANY slows, since he has no dashes or teleports to close distance. That's his counter, an alistar can keep him from ever becoming part of a team fight, so can many other support champions. That's why most Nasuses opt to split push instead of team fight, cause their team fights are weak.

Nasus has 2 timers:

First one being when he is relevant. Usually its around the 20 min mark where he just starts to power up. He is super tanky and extremely hard to deal with. This is the nasus most people hate.

The second timer is where he starts wilting. This one is usually around the 40 min mark as long as the enemy team hasn't just thrown the game away. Its the point where most carries build the pen required to shred nasus. He still packs a punch but you can kill him now at least.

Beerstein1 votes

Honestly I found the only way to really shut down a nasus is 2v1 him. Swap with bottom lane and 1v2 them while they beat on Nasus. The amount of babysit you need otherwise via jungle if you want to truly shut him down will shut your own jungler down. A good top player should be able to still handle 1v2 bottom without losing too much CS, much more so than Nasus at the least.

360D3GR3SS1 votes

Darius. Basically if their jungler doesn't get a successful gank on you pre 6 you win the lane and can kill both nasus and the jungler if they try and gank you again.

Lugg1 votes

I had a game where I was playing Ziggs. Nasus came after me and withered me. I used satchel charge to knock him back and myself away. Then I dropped a minefield to slow him down. I even flashed, but he still somehow caught up enough to wither me a SECOND time and killed me. I'm sorry, but when you use your escape kit perfectly and still can't get away, there is something seriously wrong.

lB2kGRlc8y1 votes

So, like running from Jayce, except Nasus has no speed increases or gap closers. The only thing he has going for him is a high base MS and that trinity is in his typical build path.

SleepyLionCub1 votes

If every top laner counters him. Can he really be countered?

Juggernaut6281 votes

If you really want to counter Nasus, play AP Fizz top. When Nasus goes in to Q a minion, stand on it with your passive so he cant farm it and then retaliate with a auto of your own. Wait for 6, get Sheen and 1v1 him. Stay top and say "Fuck you team!" and repeatedly kill Nasus until he is useless. GG.

EffectFX1 votes

His name is olaf. Max E, every time nasus tries to go for a creep hit him the face with it. Don't auto attack him unless you're going in for the kill, because as long as you don't auto attack him the wave is not going to push as hard. I guarantee he'll stop trying to get CS and you won't push the wave unless you're attempts at CSIng are inadequate. Freeze lane, get farm, watch for ganks. Don't teamfight, just deny nasus farm.

Riven countering Nasus is something of a myth, much like Teemo.

There are certainly champions that can fight him, however.

Akali Harass him early, kill him at six.

Darius KILL HIM. Play aggressive like you never have before. W him if he dares to try and stack, and Q him away from minions so it doesn't push. If he tries to hide, E him to you. It is very possible to kill him before six with Darius, and once you hit six you'll murder him. Then come back to lane and murder him again. Then kill the jungler who was trying to gank you (unless it's something stupid like a 10/0 Master Yi, had to deal with one of those as Darius top against Poppy once).

Kayle What an annoying champion. One of the few champs who can push Nasus under turret and still harass the shit out of him. Getting ganked is your biggest worry.

Lissandra Lots of harassment and CC, while being more useful in team fights. What's not to love?

MasterYi No joke. Max Wuju style and punish him for every creep. Free farm top and kill Nasus as much as possible. The beauty of this champion is that even if Nasus gets a fairly average number of stacks, a well-farmed and fed Yi can duel him, since Highlander negates Wither.

Olaf Oh yes, Olaf counters Nasus in lane. Max E first, and smack the shit out of him if he comes close. Win lane, then lose the game because you picked Olaf and Olaf sort of sucks. Okay, so maybe not an optimal solution, but if someone has to babysit Nasus top, it might as well be a champ that doesn't bring much to teamfights.

Pantheon Q > Q > W > E > Q > Ignite

Swain Incredibly hard for Nasus. No way to dodge his harass, and becomes an unkillable monster late game.

Trundle My favorite counter because of how manly it is. Trundle can't deny Nasus as effectively as some of the people I've listed, but what he can do is KICK HIS ASS. Trundle is very hard for Nasus to duel, because his kit basically counters his.

Vayne I don't feel the need to justify this one.

Vladimir Resourceless, easy harass, very hard for Nasus to kill, is a badass in team fights.

Rengar - Battle Roar doesn't push that much, and you can beat the crap out of Nasus with Savagery every time he wants to kill a minion. Just keep jumping at him via the brush if he tries to farm, and you can zone him entirely.

Rumble - Flamespitter and Electro Harpoon will ruin Nasus' day until he manages to get out Spectre's Cowl. Beat him up before he can do that. Don't worry too much about overpushing; Flamespitter does reduced damage to minions.

Trundle - If there's any Champion who can kick Nasus' ass, it's Trundle. He built defense? Subjugate him and he's squishy. He wants to fight? Chomp him and then smash his face in. He's trying to run? Pillar of Ice and trap him. Best of all, you can match his sustain thanks to King's Tribute.
