If Liandries is made to counter tanks, shouldn't it have % magic pen instead?
AP itemization is so poor compared to AD, maybe this would be a great start?

It was made to counter health-stacking.
If you want to counter tanks, build Liandry's Torment, Void Staff and CDR.
No thanks.
It's a solid item as is.
The purpose would be to make give it an "identity". It's picked mainly for the 15 magic pen, which stacks nicely with sorcs which destroys squishies. That's not the point of the item.

I really hate all this obsession with identity. Here's the key to damage, here's the key to penetration, here's the key to sustain, and etc.. Why does every item have to have a singilar reason it's bought? Literally people out there are trying so hard to make the game more brainless than it already is.
Hey man, with sorc shoes and liandries and 20 more mpen from runes, you have 50 magic pen. You deal true damage to squishies and 50 mr is still a lot for tanks. Additionally, it applies after %mr pen. So that 200 mr guy now suddenly has 80 mr after your build plus void staff.
Yeah, I guess you're right. Riot being obessed with identity made me, as well. One part of me wants every item to be picked for a specific situation, another one wants every item to be basically random at the point anyone can build them, still given the right situation. Just like Pink Ward builds, if you follow him a bit.

Yeah. I really don't like items that are so explicit. Like nowadays the builds just feel like "if you damage and are ad ranged, get x, y, and z items, if you're a mage, get a, b, and c items. There's no creativity anymore, which I find sad.
Isn't items not having specific niches what causes everyone to build the same thing? If items are generalist you just get every ADC build ie, PD, BT, LW in season 5 for example instead of build mortal reminder if they have lots of healing, PD if you want to duel, er if you want to be able to spam more. The main contributors to everyone in a class building the same thing are items without niches like morellos giving every stat a mage wants or void staff piercing total magic resist making it effective against tanks and squishies.
By random I mean really random. Take 2 advanced items, merge them together. For example, Raptor Cloak and Stinger. Give it maybe another passive like +10% damage to towers, and boom.
Or maybe even Fiendish Codex and Raptor Cloak.
Not generic items, just adding like 100+ items to give more options.
Before Adaptive Helm and Abyssal, the tank MR items were so bad I would build 2 SV if they had a lot of AP.
Those aren't generalist items. They are class specific items that give every stat needed to said class, in precise amounts needed/wanted.
The current ADC builds aren't generalist? All we did was add 3-4 options for each item and call it build variety. The only ADCs who actually build somewhat differently are Kog'maw, Corki, Graves, and Quinn. Of which, the first is more of an on hit champ, second is a mage, third is a juggernaut, and fourth is an assassin.
The passive and the flat pen are kinda at odds as far as form and function go. AP itemization does need a serious overhaul, but so do the mages (and tanks) in the game currently will also need to be reworked, otherwise good items will just make them busted OP (like they were back in seasons 1, 2, and 3; RIP 155 AP 3300g deathcap).

Kinda enjoying ulting carries with this. Keep it as is.
This is why I suggested the change. Not to nerf Lux, but because the item isn't used as it should.
Your job isnt to kill tanks. its to kill the carries. Besides, you have
I think having 2 % magic pen items you could buy together would be bad for the game.
I get your point though, I'm basically asking Liandry to replace Void staff in a way? Both items should counter tanks, 1 does, the other is okay at best (2%/4% current health is still pretty strong)
This might be an interesting way to give void staff the last whisper treatment of being a component that builds into multiple options.
