As amazing as Raptor Cloak is, it doesn't build into anything useful.

I still upgrade it to ZZ'Rot because it's the better of the two (edit : three, not taking Talisman into consideration), but that's like asking to vote for Hillary or Trump.

Have dead man's plate build out of raptor cloak. Would be so op.

That would... kind of make sense. Might have to change the Armor/ HP values to make room for some regen, but it would just make a lot of sense.

Maybe we could give some of that armor, HP, and buildpath goodness to Ohmwrecker instead!

Doesn't it build into Xayah ?

I have thought this too. The item has great potential, and I think it would have an interesting and unique niche compared to the other advanced armor items. item 1031 (800g) +40 Armor item 3024 (900g) +20 Armor, +250 Mana, +10% CDR item 3076 (900g) +35 Armor, Thorns (reflect 20 damage on-hit, Grevious Wounds) item 2053 (900g) +30 Armor, +125% HP Regen, Point Runner (+20% MS near turrets) item 3082 (1000g) +40 Armor, Cold Steel (15% AS slow)

These five are items you would build in lane. Each has its own advantages. As with most defensive itemization, the choice should really depend on the lane matchup and how well it is going. The obvious example is Warden's Mail and Bramble Vest, which should be bought against and auto-attack heavy champion. Personally, I have always thought that Raptor Cloak would make the most sense as an anti-caster equivalent. It gives a solid chunk of armor, the MS is available in most of top lane, and the HP regen is more valuable against enemies which only engage with a spell rotation occasionally.

Sadly, as you point out, the upgrades are not especially noteworthy. Talisman is at least built regularly, and Zz'Rot is solidly situational, but neither Ohmwrecker nor Banner of Command is a generally advisable buy.

What gets me is how close they both are to being good.

Banner of Command used to be a decent buy as a particular sort of anti-mage item. It had decent MR, CDR, and the active was great to counter the sort of mage that just wavecleared. Now, while the active remained unchanged, and the CDR is the same, it now has more Armor and MR. I think that if those two numbers were swapped, it could regain its previous niche. Heck, they could also swap Locket's Armor and MR values. Might do it good, balance-wise. Now, they probably will not, as that would mean you have a base stat which does not improve with an upgrade, but still, something of the sort could be done.

Ohmwrecker is an even stranger case. Never mind the fact that it has practically never been built anyway, Ohmwrecker as it is now is almost a good item from stats alone. If it had ten more armor, or a bit more health, it would be a very solid item. As it is, too few items give only 10% CDR, so it allows for more broad builds.

I'm with you, -Nixtarma

You're using Banner of Command wrong. The only problem I have with the two items it upgrades into is that they're too similar.

Oh man ... I was talking about Ohmwrecker, I didn't know BoC was built with Raptor Cloak ...

Back when it used to give AP it had its own niche as a wave pushing item for non-tank supports and support mids like Karma and Lulu.

Well, atleast for tanks that's sadly true. Supports can get usefull stuff from it, talisman really is underated if you need more engage or disengage for your comp, and Banner actually can be very powerfull, especially in a siege comp.

However, those items don't have the stats to support a sololane tank, and Zz'rot is a sad joke since the nerfs, the voidlings die to fast to anything to use them for lane pushing or siegeing, their lifetime is way to limited for afk-pushing, and the dps vs towers is to low to be worth it as splitpushing boost. So all in all, the passive is pretty bad right now, and the stats just don't cut it otherwise.

I'd love to see buffs, maybe even changes, to Zz-rot. The voidspawn idea is somewhat neat, but it simply shares it's niche with banner, which would have so much more potential than currently gets used, so i think switching that portal to something else(maybe an active one--way portal with vectorcasting) might help finding a decent spot for it. Though i'd still like to see an tank item that actually is about the raptorscloak rather than some other gimick, and Deadmen's seems like the perfect fit for it.

Talisman of Ascension is a good item to have on anyone. If you want the Raptor Cloak passive, buy Talisman and give your team that juicy speed too.

Given you have someone in your lane to take the CS. It's great to have a mini Sivir ult for everyone, if you're a support.

Right? I agree it's a mid tier item that needs some more options instead of essentially the 2 similar ones. and even though I think Ohm Wreaker is the best snowballing item for tanks... no one else does... so

Deadman's Plate is a great idea and synergy, love that one.

Perhaps adding it to Gargoyle's Stone plate and upping the cost by a little bit would be a healthy change, since that item is really strong for it's cost.

Or even making a new tier 3 item. that has the active of temporarily making your turrets invincible or at least super resilient, something that was even added to DOTA over the years. We need more items that helps when behind, or even against super siege comps. So there is a nice niche to fill here.
