Can you give me examples of there being "Too much damage"?

Monstermushmush··8 votes·3,661 views

I'm just wondering. I've been playing since the start of season 7 and it seems like damage seems fine. The only times I get 1 shot are when the enemies are hyper-fed, going like 10/0/0. You get fed, you do a ton of damage. You fall behind, you do less damage. The boards always say that damage is too high but they rarely give multiple examples.

Woah, hey, slow your roll there buddy. You're asking the boards to actually provide a realistic, reasonable example of something they complaining about?

season 7 was not a season you want to take as reference.

twitch popping out of stealth and 3 shotting entire teams is a poor baseline for how damage vs. defense in this game should look like.

season 5 is a better example. things really went downhill with the marksmen update at the start of season 6, where they did shit like literally double MissFortune ult damage. the declared intent of riot was to make individual marksmen more distinct from one another, which was fine. the problem was that the update came with massive buffs to an already dominant class of champions back then. imo it started a huge chain of power creep with the following class updates aswell.

But that only happens if the twitch is hyper-fed. And the marksmen update didn't buff all champs. And the buffs that they did give were not gamechanging.

i thought you started playing since season 7. how would you know the difference unless you lied?

because i remember kog maw and on hit marksmen being broken, and marksmen in general receiving massive buffs with the uptate overall. they were present in almost every lane.

mid was corki dominating, jungle/top was graves being massively overpowered, and bot lane marksmen were way too strong aswell after the updates.

i dont know who wouldnt consider this gamechanging.

it WAS an overall huge buff to the class even though they were already strong before their update to begin with.

I looked up the changes.

which tells you what they did with individual marksmen, but not their position in the meta back then.

if you buff a champion significantly (and those buffs were significant) when the class as a whole was already relevant, and even strong, you end up with overpowered champions. no surprise.

Google. because i remember kog maw and on hit marksmen being broken, and marksmen in general receiving massive buffs with the uptate overall. they were present in almost every lane. They were nerfed. Now they are balanced. mid was corki dominating, jungle/top was graves being massively overpowered, and bot lane marksmen were way too strong aswell after the updates. Corki is weak now. Graves was nerfed on the marksmen update. i dont know who wouldnt consider this gamechanging. Me. it WAS an overall huge buff to the class even though they were already strong before their update to begin with. It was an overall buff, but it didn't create the "damage meta" that everyone is ranting about.

its where the damage creep started.

season 5 to season 9 is a huge difference compared in overall damage in the game, and it tends to be the first thing riot keeps buffing when theyre buffing a champion.

just look at the recent tank changes where the a whole bunch of them were turned into bruisers.

the crit item buffs riot is already planning.

this isnt a new developent. almost every champion in the past 2 years just received some form of larger damage buff.

summoner 14 i know its prob not what youre asking for. But...

Juice2 votes

Yeah it's the +30 damage on ignite that's one-shotting you.

Stop the circlejerk

wolf jade3 votes

No its the 500 damage it does late game (1/4 of mage health)

Juice1 votes

If your mage has 2000 hp at lv18 you deserve to get 1 shot for building wrong items, and if you are in the range of ignite as a mage at lv18 you deserve to get 1 shot for positioning incorrectly.

wolf jade4 votes

i am guessing you do not know how much health mid laners get. thats fine (not only mages)

Anivia - 1874 (with normal build 2400 max)

Azir - 2116 (with normal build max 2400)

LeBlanc - (situational) 2092

Kog'Maw - 2030 normal build

Sivir - 2028

1/4 of your health more or less (not everyone)

It's not 30damage, it's 10-95, meaning 20 damage at lvl 3 which IS a noticeable difference, 35 damage at lvl 6 also is a noticeable difference for an all-in... Also, the fact that TP and exhaust got nerfed so Ignite is now the default, meaning many champs that would have had utillity from their summoner in the past now have 80-505 extra damage which is a massive difference.

I mean with all the true damage. the only tanks I can actually tank on are Rammus and Poppy.

Anyway an example of dmg being too high is like imagine having 100 armor. If I'm not mistaken that's like 46-50% dmg reduction. Now someone builds item 3147 and negates say 18 of that. that's like 40% dmg reduction. Even with all that dmg reduction, some assassin or someone playing like one will come in with item 3147 you and half health with just one auto attack.

Oh also getting killed in .25 seconds. That seems to happen a lot more than before.

item 3128 Katarina with scripts killed faster than that in old seasons. It's funny, but the game was more fun, despite that. Rengar was also more reliable. Fizz could W+Q and one shot etc. I think that there were other examples. Still, these champions had weaknesses that we could exploit. Nowadays everyone feels overpowered. I don't want to talk about rune gimmicks like Dark harvest and Conqueror/Lethal tempo etc that can be potentially game breaking or useless. Also, Jhin breaking interactions with various items/runes, just because balance team is too lazy to put a limit on his bonus MS/AD or whatever.

I find it disgusting that u, as 3 k health 200 armor/mr tank, can get oneshot in 0.3 s by (insert assasine x here) . Thats not healthy, that shouldt happen. Why can assasines os their HARDCOUNTER?

Please provide proof and details of this happening

Go watch some season 4 youtube replays. The game really used to be FUN. There is a reason why Lol became the most played game on a global scale. It was also more strategic and tactical back then. They introduced new runes in season 5 that broke everything and it's going downhill from there, despite all the reworks etc. There is a reason for URF to be considered the best mode - it is just fun. It is so good that players quit the game after its rotation finishes. The dumb RIOT doesn't want to give us permanent URF lobbies, because they will probably have to balance it, if it is an official game mode.

Buy tabis+randuin in any game with a crit ADC. You'll see how useless 32% reduction has become.

And no they aren't useless. They have item 3095

But aren't the ADCs supposed to be the ones killing the tanks? From my experience, it takes about 7-12 seconds for an ADC(excluding vayne) to kill a tank.

7sec to kill someone that did buy nothing but defense on you're own is rather short, and once you get teamfights, the damage gets stacked up and Tanks end up dieing in the duration of a single hard CC. Unless i'm fed on a tank or bruiser, i never feel tanky no matter how much i invest into defense. The issue is not just marksmen shredding tanks, as you said, it's what they are supposed to do, the issue is that everything does solid damage to tanks and adc atleast once they hit lategame are a bit to good at shreding tanks.

Compared to S5 or even worse to S2, that's a massive difference. Not only would Tanks survive a bit longer vs ADC, there was also less damage from the rest. Especially in S2, tanks and supports could basically be ignored while mages and assasins had more CDs so less dps and they'd try to not waste the CDs on the tank. That allowd tanks to initiate fights vs 5 and actually survive without **imidiate ** followe up. But buy now, all tanks have %hp damage, mages have noticable dps, overall downtimes are rather low and supports have more gold which often is spend on damage, either directly or indirectly through stuff like ardent or zekes while defensive items have been slowly nerfed over the years, especially in terms of sustain while anti tank got boosted(liandries buffs, BotrK is stronger than ever, CONQUEROR, IE granting truedamage..)

The issue** isn't that assasins or burst mages can burst full glasscannon squishys, that happend in S2 aswell and is totally fine. The issue isn't **that bruisers that invested some gold into damage can somewhat quickly kill a squishy with no gold spend on defense. The issue is that supposdly tanky champs don't feel like they life any longer than squishys unless the snowball The issue is that tanks can take down squishys in nearly one rotation with no gold spend on damage and bruiser kill about as quickly as assasins The issue is that we currently have a damage dealer from every single position while in the past it were usually 2-3 high damage threats per team

After3perma2 votes

There is no damage in league because ADCs are so weak.

LTK KoRo2 votes

There is no "too much damage", ADCs only now realized they're squishy without their precious enchanters, so they cry about literally every other class other than them dealing too much damage.

UlyssesISR1 votes

It really depends on how well you position yourself. You can avoid a lot of bad situations by simply warding key areas and sticking by teammates/towers/behind minions. High mobility champions can get away with some greedy plays that other champions would normally get punished for. But even then, it's highly dependent on their ability to react should things go south. Iv seen some mobile champ players that were as slippery as wet soap. Others have map awareness that is tantamount to a senile mole.

Basically the better you are at positioning the less likely you will get blown up by high damage champions.

I looked at your post, and two things struck me.

  • you had a grand total of one upvote
  • you presented your argument in a calm and respectable way, yet you weren’t downvoted by people screaming about TOO DUCH MAMAGE.

I thought hell froze over, but then I realized this post had just as many upvotes as it had downvoted. Which meant there where equal parts ragers and respectable debaters on the boards.

Now I KNOW hell’s frozen over.
