Why do you ban Azir?

I was looking through the statistics and found something weird. Why does Azir have a ban rate of 22.66%, when its play rate is 3.27% and win rate 37.82% (lowest in the game)? It's disproportionately high.

It's Plat+, I would think people are smart enough to not choose a champion that's so underpowered, and this is shown in his low pick rate, so I don't think the reason is that people ban him to prevent your teammate from picking him. Then why is his ban rate so high?

Azir can be a major lane bully and can get almost free damage to enemy units/champs under tower. On the reverse, he can sit under tower and send soldiers out to get some safe farm on minions or harass. It's not so much that he's "too good", but can be a real annoyance to some champs/team comps. Both in lane or in fights. That's just how I see it anyways.

Basically people don't like playing against Azir. Yes, they know he's trash right now and has a decent chance of giving them the game, but they hate playing against him that much.

That's my understanding at least, but I'm an Azir main, so...
