This should never, ever happen, but it is frighteningly common...
Calculated MMR difference of 275. Just for reference, it was 7-18 down two dragons and all outer turrets by 15 minutes. Please. Please stop. There has got to be a better way.

This is Normals - the match making isnt looking for games to be perfectly even, its looking for a team in general. If you hate how much of a skill difference there is in normals, let me suggest you play ranked.

Let me ask you: Why do you think this is an acceptable answer?
The reason it's acceptable is because matchmaking doesn't know before hand what players will pick. If a player got to Gold playing only one champion or one role, and plays a different champion or different role in the Normal game, how can the matchmaking possibly know how good they are?
The system can only matchmake based on other Normal games. There are too many ways to climb Ranked buy only be good at a very narrow subset of things that would destroy the system if they tried otherwise. The unfortunate truth is that most players with high ranks play primarily ranked and have a very inaccurate Normals MMR because of it.

What you pick is not factored into your MMR. This is simply a numbers game-- a numbers game being handled very, very poorly.
And no, I refute your last point, most high level players do not have very inaccurate Normals MMR. They have more games there almost universally. More games means closer to true MMR. If they're better, they'll be higher, which they are, but still being matched down hundreds of MMR. It's absurd.

This is a the truth.

That's not what I fucking asked now don't deflect the fucking question. Is this an acceptable answer? Do we want this reality? Yes or no.

If I didnt think this is acceptable, I wouldn't have posted anything about this being how match making works. Does it suck? Sometimes - playing against better players helps you improve. Take this as a learning ground, and learn from better players.

Oh, yes. Thank you, Riot. Thank you for mismatching all the time. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to learn from better players by constantly being crushed in CS, towers, dragons, barons, etc. Thank you for matching me against teams with literal dozens of tiers difference, thousands more games played, and tens of thousands more hours invested collectively.
Let me just take out my notebook and take notes as the D5 Udyr 1v4s my silver teammates again. Please, bro. Jump off that ridiculous high horse. This abortion of a matchmaking system is leprosy in a game that's already dying of multiple forms of cancer.

All these "want same skill level play ranked" babies dont realize doing your first 5 of a season in ranked is bronze level players of which the truly bad bronze level players can be selected. you loss a single match of those five you wont make it in to silver tier (all though that is marginally better from what I have watched.) then while in bronze you have to slog through 5 tiers of potentially god awful team mates and at the end of each tier you have a series of 3-5 matches to play 3 for in rank promo's 5 for promo to next rank. in a 3 series you cant lose 2 matches in a 5 series you cant loss 3 in bronze your likely to get a lot more trash then treasure and either YOU some how manage to get a hard carry position with a hyper carry champ and your team does not completely blow so hard that you can solo the 5 enemy player to make the final nexus push 2-3 time in a row for your promos.
In short you may be a challenger level player chances are your going to end up in bronze and then have a pain of a time slogging up to people who are actually on your level. so get stuffed you "want same skill level play ranked" babies cause your spewing the garbage that makes this game toxic.
on other notes some people dont want to play ranked A cause they dont have the time. B they dont want to be in a toxic competitive environment that is ranked play. C Have grown tired like myself of the stress of playing ranked and would rather play balanced normal games.
275? Once had a match where our team mmr was 1200~ and enemy team was 1950. Bronze 4 and lvl 26 on my team, 1 master tier on theirs.

It's bad. This shouldn't happen. Like, I know people will be bullshitting about differences in Ranked and Normals MMR, but that Udyr has more normal wins than my entire team put together. How the fuck is his Normals MMR not higher?
yes its well understood that riots matchmaking system needs improvement, does riot care? nope! because as always, balance is sacrificed to save time, always.
otherwise players wait too long and popularity drops.
Now I'm in a game with a level 27 Yi. I can't do this. I can't do this anymore. It's 1-16 at 15 minutes. How is this acceptable?
I played one last night with a 400 point mmr difference. We won anyways. Just keep in mind that their calculated team mmr from sites like op.gg or lolnexus is calculating their MMR as though they were playing ranked, not their normals MMR which is entirely different.
Someone could be a diamond on your team but only played placements and never bothered climbing - there simply is no way to tell.
If you want same skill level then play ranked. Stop being a kid and down voting everyone that's telling you the common sense thing to do.

Ranked is an even more cancerous shit hole than normals. I may be mismatched there constantly, but I don't have to put up with the treacherous scum that trolls Ranked because of Riot's limp-wristed, limp-dicked approach to player behavior.
God forbid we say fuck, but feed 0/15? Nah, you're good.

p.s. the bullshit coming out of your keyboard is WHY the fucking downvote exists. Leave my thread.
Now can you deliver us an algorithm that would be better? That would cover the abuse cases of players doing mostly normals and being much better than the ranked league they're in, if they're not even unranked ; and would also be completely equilibrated by considering the players that have done very few normals and tryharded with main picks in ranked and want to learn a new pick in normals? etc. If you don't, this topic is useless, is a remake of every 'matchmaking sucks' topic and you should feel bad. If you do, go ahead and present your algorithm.

Perhaps. I would need to see the algorithm currently being used to even begin to address why it is the way it is. Frankly, I don't think the problem is that fundamental though-- this could be resolved by simply fusing Normal and Ranked MMRs (for SR) and having prelevel 30s accounted for in some way, like a unique MMR queue when they solo or premade with other prelevel 30s.
And longer queue times. I would be okay with waiting a minute longer if the matchmaking were even a tiny bit better.
