What do you feel are the worst reworks Riot has made?

I've been playing this game for roughly 3 years now and through that time I've seen quite a number of reworks, specifically the class updates (and we all know how that went now). But with all of these reworks have come good and bad ones and so I have to ask the question since everyone has their own opinion: what are the worst reworks to you? These can be for champs that you play or don't even play. It just has to be some form of rework that you don't agree with when it was teased or came out.

To me, it comes down to this list: Garen - Nothing was really added to Garen to help with his playstyle. All that I felt was really added was more spinning and the villian mechanic, which theme and lore wise makes sense but considering on how random and unreliable it can be it just doesn't hold up. This just failed to bring anything significantly new to Garen.

Malzahar - Let's be honest, this guy was guaranteed to make the list. If memory serves me (correct me if I'm wrong), Malzahar mains were actually asked by Riot what they didn't want him to be and they told Riot not to put focus on his minions. And what does Riot do? Turn him into a minion mancer and he dominates for a while before getting nerfed down into supp and then getting a partial rework to make him go back to his original gameplay pattern, which is Riot's way of telling us that this is the closest we'll get to a revert unlike Kog.

Maokai - Turned into a huge AP support due to the massive powershift into his E and then nerfed and now I don't see him

Mordekaiser - Mord is kind of an interesting one for me as this was the first time Riot wanted to incorporate a melee ADC to try and mix things up. For that I do have to applaud them for trying something bold but in the end Mord turned out too strong, he got nerfed to oblivion and is still ridden with bugs if I remember. He really just needs to be next in a spot soon for a full VGU at this point after Urgot and Eve.

Rengar - While I hate this guy the mains of him seem to hate him more since he doesn't play the same way and he's now categorized as a diver than an assassin which Riot said he'll still be. I honestly don't know what I should suggest about him or what Riot is even planning for him at this point.

This is just my list and the ones I have the most to talk about right now but I'm curious now to see what your worst reworks are.

Agreed. It's almost like Riot needs to leave Q's alone on champions =\ Rengar Shen

Fiora : Often seen as well designed due to how flashy she is and engaging to play, she actually did fail on many fronts. Riot themselves have discussed missing the mark in regards to making her feel like the old Fiora to people who gained her before the rework (Especially appearance and personality-wise). And she has many of the same problems that they intended to fix with this in the first place. Still frustrating to play against, feast-famine when it comes to gold, and identity problems. In addition, whenever she can deliver on her identity as "The grand duelist", then she invalidates champs like Jax and Tryndamere by simply being a better version of them. Maokai : E was previously a filler ability, so it makes sense they tried to do some fancy stuff with it. But it resulted in wonky power shifts as he now had an area with power he previously didn't. Combine this with a confusing to use Ulti (Duration is crap at close range, easily dodge able at long ranges), and he's in a weird spot atm (But has potential to be remedied)

Quinn

Rework Pros

  • Gave her a solid niche
  • Improved counterplay
  • Resolved some long-standing bugs

Rework Cons

  • Her niche is now exactly the same as Talon's
  • She's still unhealthy and too frustrating to play against, particularly as a melee laner
  • Changes to her kit removed a large portion of her mechanical depth and took away one of the most unique aspects of her kit (melee transformation)
  • Severely hurt her thematic (Valor is just a particle effect now, dynamic duo is gone)
  • Still a feast or famine champion

Worst reworks.. I'll do this as unbiased as possible Skarner Rengar Shen Katarina
( KogMaw hence why it was more-or-less reverted) Eh probably biased huh lol

Why Katarina? She became viable at many levels of play and required a much more skilled player.

Because before locking her down was actually a thing.. Now she just gets resets on her w/e that its hard to actually lock her down, before her damage came largely with her R, she sat in 1 spot and spun. I'm not saying shes op, she def has a higher skill cap than before. But playing against her feels very unclear. And with point and click CC being forced out of the game, its becoming harder to keep her bunny ass down.

Probably biased, but i think she's more unfun to play against than before. (At least vs a good one)

Fiora Ryze they have admitted the fuck up on those reworks

Ryze - He never doesn't need a rework so clearly each one failed somewhere Skarner - killed his original identity and pretty much was forgotten after nerfs since then. Zac - everybody hates how new zac feels and he's broken enough for a 111.67% banrate? Yea this is a disaster. Leblanc - took a toxic champion to try and make it less toxic and ended up making it more toxic with a completely different playstyle. Rengar ^ Anivia - the MYMU changes feel kinda awful to me. I understand the context behind them but they felt like nerfs to anivia and made her a little clunky.

Vladimir Because he was my main in Season 4(?) Only strong counter to Fizz, Yasuo, and a bunch of other mid laners. Talon I miss his old E.

Mecha MaIphite1 votes

Basically haven't played Rengar since his rework. His Q doesn't sound as satisfying as it was before, and as stupid as that sounds, that was one of the biggest turnoffs for me.

Syndra at the MYMU.

Seriously, I want to give an award to the guy that thought enabling easy 7 Ball ults is a good idea.

Skarner.

I didn't even know his niche before. I'm convinced he doesn't have one now.

Mordepool1 votes

Biased opinion but Morde losing a basic ability. Retard level designing

CriticalRenegade1 votes

The only bad things about Morde's rework:

  • New q isnt as fun and so much power is put into the 3rd hit instead of it being aoe damage.
  • So much power is put into dragon (not all bad)

He still does what he used to do, just some power is reallocated.

I'd add Xerath's rework on that list.

I'm still salty about it.

Yorick , Galio and Poppy were all a ton of fun to play and riot basically made them generic and no fun at all
