People of Gameplay and Balance, why do you think Darius is fine/good?

And I just want well thought out arguments, I'll start by saying why he isn't good/competitive, because I can't see how some people say he's in a great spot.

He is kited extremely hard, he misses his E and he is useless for a long time.

He only has damage in his kit, he's the only Bruiser without tankiness or sustain built into his kit.

Feast or famine, if he feasts it's a great feast, if he famines he is more useless than a cannon minion, except he kses.

His teamfight is extremely poor except for the constant threat of him ksing everybody, which isn't always bad.

No built in escape, if he overextends in lane and gets ganked, he will probably die unless he is ahead.

Either hard counters extremely unfairly and wins with no skill, or loses to another extremely unfairly and loses hard(melee vs ranged).

Now I'll list the pros that I do know that WARRANT me picking him in ranked from time to time.

Has high damage and mixed damage.

Is a great counter to some champs in game, can keep them down for a while.

Is extremely easy to pick up as a champion.

Can 5 man pull an entire team IF used correctly, this isn't always a good thing though.

Dunks.

Now I want to know why you guys think he is fine/good, whenever I make a Darius thread I'm either told he is fine, sleeper, op, or is too strong to get a buff as he will be back to release Darius in the form of ruining either his teams, the enemy teams, or both teams times in game.

darius has stats and a passive that make him win lane, but i dont see him being relevant to a team as a top laner without having a whole team backing him from his lack of gap closer.
id say his main focus is to deny the enemy top laner and shut them down.

id rate him a 4/10. 1 being stupid weak and useless and 10 being tons of utility and limitless in usage.

He is alright now I think, still fucks every melee toplaner and can beat ranged too if you play and build him right. His only problems are as you mentioned he is not that tanky and also gets kited too easily.

He doesn't beat every melee top laner.

Cho, Riven, Renekton, Mordekaiser are some melees that beat him in lane AND in teamfights.

Riven beats Darius?

Are we playing the same game?

You just start cloth+5 and see Riven cry to your base damage...

He has a lot of potential as a tank that is actually a damage threat. His base damage and scaling is great. The problem is still that he can't reach anyone to hit.

Some items do help him to reach the enemy though. Righteous Glory is a massive buff to any champion that want a gapcloser but don't have it. The movement speed bonus plus the slow helps a lot, and if used at the right time you can force them to use mobility, then pull them back.

But Darius is still item reliant and therefore requires support until he can reach his high potential. I would say that missing resists and sustain in his kit is a trade-off for his relatively high damage built into his kit, and isn't purely a detriment.

I think he is underpar because he doesn't dive as effectively as some other tops, but he isn't bad and unusable.
