its a german page but if you look at master elo in korea, over 1/3 of all games end with a surrender. why am i posting this? i have no idea i felt like showing it. quite the... big numbers tbh. "noch nicht gewertet" are unranked ranked matches. (your first 10 each season)

I believe the reason for this lies in the fact that a lot of people play league in internet or gaming cafes.

You pay for every hour you play, so it's actually cheaper for you to surrender or to open mid once you're losing, rather than trying to win the game and play for 50 minutes.

Which may be the driving focus on early snowball.

The surrender rates in Korea have ALWAYS been high because of this, not just recently.

Also this creates a habit, so even if they’re playing in their own home they are used to ffing “lost” games, or in respect to others in the cafes.

i checked the na and eu ones aswell. there isnt much difference tbh.

Koreans are smart enough to see when a game is lost, and know their time is better spend playing a new game. Unlike NA & EU players.

Well, they are also better at not throwing games probably

I kinda like how Koreans as a whole server are put on a pedastal because their elites are good at the game.

I do think NA pride is a thing, but across both NA/OCE in my experience, people are all quick to call for an ff when losing, especially high elo in any server, people make less mistakes

Well they probably see that a game is lost and call it quits there and then.

But this is very different in euw and na. We have surrender rates of ~15%. I think this because of different mentality in other continents.

Because other countries are more competitive than the us. There they understand that the game is over so they move on and try to improve. In the us its like lets hope the other team dc's or messes up severely so we can just get lp and not try to improve.

I can't tell how many games a surrender vote failed and 1 minute later we lose the game. I think its kind of sad that people won't accept the fact that they got beat and won't move on.

If you’re one minute away from defeat, why not play it out anyways. There is a somewhat a deprivation to not allowing the enemy to blow up your Nexus, and if you’re trying to min-max your own free time in a game meant for fun, it starts becoming a chore. There are many last ditch baron turn-arounds and Nexus throws that it doesn’t hurt to try your 1%.

The “never surrender” attitude is disgusting in how blind it leads people, but defeatistism (is this even a word) isn’t a much better mindset.

Those are contradicting statements. Turn-arounds are rare enough that they aren't worth the pain you have to go through. And most often than not it should be obvious that you just aren't going to be able to win. Usually its the feeders that hold the game hostage and refuse to surrender.

They’re contridations only if you look at the extremes.

What I’m trying to imply is there is a gray in-between.

Thats because most Koreans play in Cafes so to maximize their time they surrender when the game seems lost.
