How did Kayle's hit box make it past QA?

Yenn··33 votes·13,734 views
  1. It seems to be the smallest in the game, which doesn't match her model, at all.
  2. The floating makes figuring out exactly where her hit box is incredibly unclear.
  3. Her actual hit box doesn't seem to be centered on her shadow, for god knows what reason why.

The old Kayle model suffered from this to some degree, but the new model is completely outside of what is acceptable. Playing heavily skill shot reliant champions against her is a nightmare, because you often bait yourself into following up on skill shots that you're absolutely certain are going to land and even visually clip her, but don't actually hit.

Clarity really needs to be added before the next patch.

It's 2019 and Riot still can't hitbox. Like, I wish this was a shitpost, but it's not.

Still part of Kayle's shenanigans is her wings aren't part of her hitbox consideration, as far as I can tell. Body-wise, it might be accurate.

I am one for correct grammar, but that comment is needlessly harsh. Lord Malpercio used the word in a helpful way, I would even say in an appropriate way. Stop trying to make people feel bad for not typing how you want them to.

Even when not grammatically correct, on casual sites such as this where formality is not demanded, one can use whatever style of "talking" they want. Using abbreviations like afaik, absurd contractions like y'all'd've, internet slang such as "trolly" and common speech patterns such as starting sentences with "Like," are all acceptable here. It reflects how a person actually speaks or their style of "talking" online and honestly adds a more human element.

Rule of thumb: if it's not a college essay or other important paper/document or formal site, dw about it.

As for whether it was correct usage or not, the word "like", when used as he did, is a form of drawing increased emphasis to the following sentence or statement. It's an interjection, and interjections are used to portray the emotion or feeling of the writer. So indeed this was actually correct usage as the writer is emphasizing how outrageous it is that the OP isn't even a shitpost.

I "like" this guy

Need a period after "trolly", mate. Not to mention a hyphen between the second L and the Y.

######It's the Internet, people type how they want. Doesn't matter if it's correct or not so long as it's legible and cohesive.

Minimac20001 votes

Legible? Excuse me, I can't read that last part at the bottom

Fixed that

I didn't get the impression you were trolling. It seems like you were just thinking out loud. That's a good quality in a person! I understand your dilemma, "like" why do we say it, right? It's a way to communicate an analogy. Analogous language is "likeness" or how "alike" two ideas are. Instead of explaining something and risking losing our minds in grammar, we draw on physical representations of ideas in the forms of examples. "Like" is also used to beg a like-mindedness. In the same way as I just described, we use "like" to ask the person to understand us without explanation or examples.

Champion hit boxes and skillshot hit boxes aren't the same though.

Minimac20001 votes

Agreed, this thread would be more accurately titled "Kayle's HURTbox is too small" but people probably still wouldn't get it bc hitbox is the more general term

Those aren't as bad; the hit box is still at the center of the base of the tornadoes, but they're visually confusing because of the animation's height. Kayle's is just complete nonsense and isn't even where you expect it to be.

Minimac20001 votes

Excuse you, no using the word "like" on this thread. Like seriously, how dare you?

Because of the camera.

I guess she is floating so her hitbox is below her and if you aim at her head you hit the ground, maybe the wings are a big deceiving too.

CHEWYARMS2 votes

First time I played against her as yorick I was raging pretty hard cause it seemed so difficult to land my E. Her hit box is way too small.

TwitchInMyPants2 votes

To anyone who's going to repeat the whole "The game is on a 2D plane but rendered in 3D so the hitboxes are accurate" bs, we know that. League is a game that can be seen at several camera angles but its forced at a fixed angle all the time. If Riot isn't going to give us full camera control they should put the hitbox where it looks like its supposed to be since thats where the camera is looking, they totally have the resources to do that. They aren't a small indie company and they can definitely do a passover for hitboxes to make them feel more accurate.

Its dumb that the shadow is the hitbox and not the Angel above it, makes leading your shots very hard and you have to aim at areas where the champion actually isn't visually. Riot can do better.

a champions HURTbox is nothing more than a circle on the ground. when you are in game and you hit spacebar to center your focus, there is a circle that appears. that's the hurtbox essentially.

tldr? aim for the feet.

Why is it that everybody who says "hurtbox" also coincidentally happens to be vastly incorrect in whatever else they say?

nergalsfang1 votes

correct me please.[galio-happy]

NepgearDesu2 votes

If I may hitch-hike for a minute: it seems to me that you are correct when writing that the hurtbox of your champion is the circle at their feet, and that hitting requires aiming at said circle.

And that is exactly the problem mentioned by Yenn: in Kayle's case, it is the shadow on the ground one needs to aim at, and it is, if anything, highly counter-intuitive. Because you don't usually hit anyone's shadow in order to hurt them, or at least it isn't done much in my country.

That's all for me, and have a nice day.

Kayle has one of the smallest models pre 11, what do you mean small hitbox doesn't match her model?

I'm pretty sure its the fact the hitbox isn't attached to the model but the shadow below her which makes no sense outside of it being convenient for Riot to program. It makes aiming shit hard in the heat of the moment.

Stars Shaper1 votes

Considering that she dies by a Minion's sneeze I don't see it as an issue.

look at ashes ult. the champ was one of the first 10 champions to be created. and her ult hitbox was a piece of shit back then. and still riot never gave a fuck. so what do you expect lol

This applies to almost all airborn champions.

Anivia is a famous one at that, her hit box is super awkward until they did that VU.

Wait, holy shit so I'm not insane? I played against her as Trynd and I cancelled like a shit ton of autos because her hitbox is SO broken. Like it's so unbelievable that I thought I was crazy and didn't think much else about it.
