Then why not upgrade your Yellow Trinket if you have it? It makes no sense to spend 225g on Wards when for 250, just 25 gold more, you can have:
1 Stealth Ward per minute (Value of 75g per minute) 1 extra Item Slot for items

ValyrianBlade1 votesWell, it is possible that you know (or at least expect) you're going to get/need access to a key part of the map and you value the temporary but large amount of vision control you'll get by placing 3 wards in the area (e.g. at baron, and two in the enemy jungle leading towards baron) over the long-term gain of the upgraded trinket.
The biggest problem with the trinket is that, at least for me, one has the habit of placing defensive wards in normal spots (e.g. bushes near a lane) and then before the cooldown resets you win a trade and find yourself safely venturing deep in to the enemy jungle with no wards to place. Having a ward available in your inventory you typically don't just drop them in lane, you have them available when you find yourself in a really advantageous spot to drop a ward.
That may just be my problem of how I ward in lane (I want to place my trinket ward whenever it's up to protect from ganks). I definitely don't claim to be a pro when it comes to warding (or anything for that matter).

However as support that generally isn't as big of an issue. Should support be the only one with a sweeping lens? I agree that upgrading the vision trinket is great in general, but we don't really talk about who should carry a sweeping lens. Just curious. Vision is drastically underestimated especially at low elos.

Watching the LCS, Supports, (and some Junglers) will get sight stone. so they don't need the trinket ward. The other problem is Vision denial. And sweeping lens has a fair cooldown. You typically see the Jungler, mid, and support with a sweeping lens. The Far sight orb is good on the ADC, not only because orb allows you immediate vision that can't be denied, but the cast range makes it a safe choice for the glass cannon. That Just leaves the top laner getting the trinket ward upgrade.
If you're buying wards, I would focus a bit more on the pinks. Partially because your support (sometimes Jungler) will already have a sight stone (thus plenty of green wards.) But it works well for both vision, and vision denial.
