To the "fillers" and secondary supports:

I see you complaining a lot about how you get support all the time, you know there are four other roles to pick from+ it's two per game..

So the question here is: is it really OH SO HARD to just pick top/mid one game then adc/Jung the next then support/fill the third then mid/Jung the fourth...? you wa t role diversity sure but if it's ranked you shouldn't be able to "fill" you should go into ranked knowing what lane/secondary lane you want along with a couple champs

The point of the fill role is that it's there for people who aren't sure where to go, so they have it randomly picked for them. The reason people complain is that it barely gives you anything other than support. It's just another support option.

I personally never pick fill since I know it will just give me support, but I can understand the frustrations of others.

Well it gave me ADC last game but i suck at ADC so.. i think it just picks what pisses everyone off.

Yes, whenever I did ranked in the old system, since I was one of the few support mains, it always seemed to pair me up with other support mains on my team. Nothing is worse in a game than two people who can't ADC fighting over who is support.

Linna Excel1 votes

It's not random though, it has to do with the queue of players and who selected what.

Olkard1 votes

What I mean is it's random to the user what they get, but it is almost always support because the majority of players don't pick support.

Here is the problem I have with this new queue...

Usually I play mid/adc/support. I have no way to pick all 3 of these roles. Before, I could play them pretty evenly because of the randomness of pick order. I could say "fill" and play the occasional top/jungle game.

Now when I queue mid/adc or mid/support(or fill).... I basically never get mid, or fill as something besides support. The ratio of games is just so messed up now.

You would think the purpose of "FILL" is to put you in a random position. But they might as well rename it to "support" at this point. "Fill" players don't want the same position every single time, otherwise they would just queue for it.

Actually the point of "fill" means you don't care what role you get and you are opting to fill the most needed role that nobody else wants to do (which in this case would be the support role) fill does not mean random, fill means you will take what nobody else wants. Now let's say suddenly top lane got a huge nerf and support got a huge buff, players start hating top and main support, now fill sends you top because nobody wants top

Linna Excel1 votes

Yep, pretty much this.

Amelie1 votes

I totally understand how Fill currently works. I'm just saying, before this queue, you could type out "fill" and you would NOT always get support. That's because you get your role based on the 4 other people you're with, as opposed to what the entire playerbase (in your elo) is playing.

I get that "fill" right now means that you get the least desired role... problem is, it's always support. It will always be support, even if top lane got a huge nerf or supports got a huge buff, as you say. Which isn't happening, by the way.

My point is, "fill" players aren't satisfied with this outcome, as you can see by the various "I don't always want to support" threads.

Arcade Andrew1 votes

So do EXACTLY what I said, don't pick fill. Pick two roles one game, two different roles the next.

The people who moan and complain about getting support everytime as fill don't understand that fill is and always will be the least desirable position. I seem to remember before the new system came out, it was always pick order>call order. Meaning I could call adc as last pick but some jerkoff whose first pick will pull "pick order sorry"

And as first pick? If I called fill and didn't choose the role that was left (mainly support) I'd get flamed and reported.

There is no basis to complain about the fill option, riot even stated when the Que first came out that fill would be a means to just play whatever as a way to get a shorter Q time

Amelie1 votes

That doesn't actually solve anything, though. Whatever you pick, (top/mid, bot/jungle, whatever) you will always get the lesser wanted role. This makes it incredibly difficult to get certain lanes consistently, or a variety of roles evenly.

Fill is a great option that Riot can use to spread the distribution more evenly.

You can't just say "don't pick fill"... that already shows there's a problem - it's a glorified "support" button. Why should fill even exist, then? You can just queue for support and get the exact same result.

Linna Excel1 votes

You would think the purpose of "FILL" is to put you in a random position.

Not true once you think about how people line up for various roles or how you'd need to implement a system to minimize wait time for all involved.

Let's say there are 100 other people in queue with you. You need an even breakdown of each role being filled before you start the game. Now the ratios looks something like this:

Top: 25 players Mid: 30 players ADC: 25 players Jungle: 10 players Support: 9 players Fill: just you

Now since the lowest number of players is support and there's 2 per role needed from each game, let's subtract 8 from each role save fill (four games started and those people were ahead of you in line) to see what you get.

Top: 17 players Mid: 22 players ADC: 17 players Jungle: 2 players Support: 1 players Fill: just you

Now, thinking about this logically, if a game were to start now which role are you getting if you selected fill? Remember you need 2 for each role for a game to start. If you said support, you'd be correct. It's not just a toss of 1d5. Saying Fill is saying I'm going to take the empty role in the next game that needs me. Now I'm not exactly sure how Riot's system works (I'm guessing something similar to first in-first out per role) but it's logical to assume the roles that empty their player lines from the queue the fastest (support then jungler) are the ones you are most likely to encounter when filling.

Amelie1 votes

I get the idea logically. I understand how it works.

The problem is with this new queue, people completely lost any kind of randomness in their roles... and manually typing out "fill" did not always equal support in the old queue. It depended on just YOUR group of 5, whether there was a duo, etc.

The "Fill" option would have been (and still can be) a great way to bring that randomness back in the game, but the way it works now means it's just another "support" button. Rather pointless.

Linna Excel1 votes

Rather pointless.

Agreed for the time being.

That's up to riot making support and jungling more appealing to the average player so more people would like to do those roles. The biggest problem with both roles right now is they require you to be a babysitter and you need to have teammates worth babysitting. That require a certain disposition most players don't have and a certain luck in solo queue.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, while the current lane meta is role optimal for coordinated teams, it sucks for the typical solo queue goer who doesn't want to support. Basically for this system to work, you'd need players who would want to take on a relatively even distributions of roles. That's not going to happen in the near future.

So riot had 2 options for how to optimize and implement fill. Option one was to reduce wait times at the cost of players basically getting support all the time. Option 2 was to secretly role 1d4 and use that as your second role. This would have given you a more even distribution of roles, but at a significant cost in wait time.

hhaavviikk3 votes

I find all options decently fun so I just pick fill so I can get like ADC 1 game then jungle then support then ADC then mid ect ect, instead I just get support 20 games in a row, if I simply did what you suggested then there's no point in even having the fill option.

I know right, what's the point of choosing fill if you're just going to get mad about the role you get, the whole point of fill is that you're fine with everything -.-

I know right, what's the point of choosing fill if you're just going to get mad about the role you get, the whole point of fill is that you're fine with everything -.-

I'm fine with everything but support myself, the problem is, I do have a prefrence order so I'd like to be able to select more than just two roles, like mid>top>Bot>jun, but there's only two options.

basically, i'd say make it "minimum 2, maximum 4" with the fill option if people really want to play support, because that's all you get if you pick fill. you don't pick fill if you don't want support.

the reason people are annoyed with it is not because they mind supporting, of course, it's cause they can play everything; the problem is they ONLY get support, meaning it's not "fill" it's "support" with a different name.

Arcade Andrew1 votes

And those people who play everything can't seem to realize they can pick TWO other roles instead of picking fill, and then pick two different roles the next gamd

Paladin 0f Life2 votes

Um the old system was exactly that ..,?

Linna Excel2 votes

No one wants to play support. If you played team builder, you'd know this. Don't complain if you get the role no one ever wants to play when you select fill.

Baby Ghoul2 votes

If you dislike high chances of getting support, don't choose fill.

If you are also a support main, but don't feel like supporting, choose something else or learn a different secondary.

It's not rocket science people. This thread needs to be pinned or something, because wow, a lot of people just don't understand that simple concept.

Their threads are not even anything of substance, no requests for Riot to look at the support role, and no meaningful discussion on why support is so undesirable in season 6.

Arcade Andrew1 votes

Pretty much. They complain about getting support 5-10 games in a row as fill, they KNOW fill gets them support(the least desirable role), THEY HAVE THE OPTION TO PICK DIFFERENT ROLES, they don't utilize said option, they come to the boards to complain

Ummm except that I can't play the same champ too many games in a row or I just start going into a huge losing streak. I also don't exactly main champions. Sure there are champions I play more often, but I get tired of them super fast.

The only champ I don't get bored with is Morde, but seeing how he can't win like 90% of solo lane match ups now I get tired of playing him too. So yes, yes it is hard to pick two roles each game. I would much rather pick 3-4 roles.

If I wanted support every game, I would pick support every game. Fill does not mean you want support 99% of the time either.

Wait.. you go on a losing streak? How?

GigglesO1 votes

{quoted}

Wait.. you go on a losing streak? How?

If I play the same champ or the same role to many games in a row I get super board. Not just that, but I also then start to get really crabby at my other roles for not punishing the enemy team more. For example, when I play too many games of top in a row, I get super comfortable with my champions, and i dominate lane. Well what happens, I get 2v1'd. Sometimes, I win that 2v1, what happens if I win that 2v1, well then I get 3v1'd. What happens when you get 3v1'd too many times without your team taking objectives, or following or ect, you lose.

So long story short, its better for me to rotate roles, and be more cautious than overly dominate my lane. It keeps me on my toes, it keeps my map awareness up, and it keeps me from complaining even more that my team isn't helping much.

N30NP4NDA1 votes

Oh i see, yeah playing the same shit over and over does get a bit boring. I like to mix it up with playing random shit as support. (literally clicking "random")
