Kassadin Shield?

LegacyDAP··2 votes·777 views

I mean I'm okay with the whole Kassadin rework, and I can see he as extreme potential, he is good for tanking, and engaging fights, and can still put a great amount of damage if built correctly, but the only problem I've noticed with the AD assassin mid meta is that if you go against any AD champ mid you're kind of screwed.

I thought over this, and I thought if it was a shield it would make him a much more viable mid laner. He is one of my favorite mid champs, but I can't play him that much anymore since I seem to go against more AD mids than I do AP. It might be a strange proposal, because it might be unbalanced, but I feel like this would be a great addition to Kassadin's kit. Thank you.

TL;DR

Can Kassadin have a shield instead of an ability power shield when he uses Null Sphere.

The reason why it is a shield that blocks magic is because thematically, he is an anti mage.

So he'll never be strong unless he goes against a mage, because I mean I want to think of something that makes him good all around. I'd say ult range buff, but that idea would be shot down immediately.

I guess adding a silence on e would be shot down too.

I don't understand how you're having trouble with AD mids considering that Kass is considered very mobile.

I'm not, but if I go against a Zed, or Yasuo, I'm almost 100% of the time looking for a gank. The problem is I can't shield any of Zed's abilities, and I can't out damage him. So I have to out tank him, so I see my build going from AP to Tank about 10 minutes in.

Not really. You are looking at it in a sort of dichotic way which isn't the case at all. Your options are not simply out damaging or out tanking. Zed's abilities are skill shots which means they can be dodged while yours are mostly targeted. You just need to work on your laning mechanics. In many cases, a champion's worth is determined by the one who uses them. I feel this is one of those cases.

I beat Zed in lane both times. With limited to no ganks, but when it gets to late game I'm not going to be able to kill him he will out damage me, unless I have a team behind my back. I can dodge skill shots, but when it comes to the point that I'm team fighting I will not be able to engage because I can only block magic damage. having an AP shield only works so well. Kassadin may not have been gutted, but he can't be played against meta champs very well without a lot of know how and skill.

Well, to be honest, you really shouldn't be 1v1ing an enemy champion after laning phase unless you are CERTAIN you can beat them. Zed's kit is simply better for dueling than Kass' kit. Given that Kass is an assassin, having a shield at all is a bit off thematically and role play speaking. It makes zero sense for an assassin to have a defensive ability like a shield. Their jobs are to get in and get out.

I understand where you are coming from, but what can I engage on. It's nearly impossible getting to the back line as Kassadin for the fact that his R range is about 5 feet in front of him. If I'm supposed to get past the front line first to get to the back line then I expect a shield to be able to tank.

This is where the fundamentals come in. That is, positioning. Even a LB will have trouble reaching the back lines if her positioning during a team fight is poor (I just witnessed this in a recent game of mine where I two shotted an LB with Lissandra as she tried to reach our back lines from a poor position).

Anyways I'm trying to think of a reasonable buff that won't get shot down instantly. Riot won't give him a silence, because they already took one away, and they're definitely not buffing his R range. He's an okay Kassassin, but he can't do much after he engages other than tank the little he can.

kass has always been meant to be an anti-AP assassin lol

LegacyDAP1 votes

I understand, but if they remove everything that made him an Anti-AP assassin besides his AP shield what else does he have left. He can't silence mages, but he can take less damage from them, which doesn't seem to matter in the end, because mages have become more bursty such as Leblanc. So unless I build tanky I can't counter mages, or at least extremely bursty ones.

kass is bursty too bro

**I said that. **That's only if you can kill somebody without dying first. Zed can do both.

Hey man, I've read through some of your posts and I have a few thoughts for you. I really like the new Kassadin, I think he's in a much better place. A lot of what the other posters have said is true, laning against someone like Zed is going to be a skill-matchup. While Zed might have a few advantages over Kassadin, Kassadin is much more useful to your team and is consistently a much higher threat than Zed.

Zed's kill combo is very simple to counter and once he's blown his R, his level of threat has greatly diminished for a good deal of time. Kassadin on the other hand is a constant threat. He is probably one of the safest assassins in the game right now, especially if he can make it to level 16 with enough farm. He has about 2 seconds to blink in and burst a squishy and then blink out. Other assassins can do something similar, but pay the price upfront. Kassadin can keep doing it over and over again because of the way his W synergizes with his R. Not only that, but he's an assassin that possesses a shield, a slow and his mobility does not dependent on a reset.

I would encourage you to just watch some of the high level of play games on the LoL Client or in the LCS, or even YouTube. Get a feel for how different players approach the laning phase. I've started playing Kassadin and I've found that he is a pretty self-sufficient laner as long as you aren't taking free harass and you are able to harass the enemy enough yourself. Once the laning phase breaks look to roam or even split push. While you are probably more helpful in team fights than other assassins, Kassadin can pressure lanes and objectives very well because he is so mobile and bursty.

I have to disagree with that, Kassadin is in a much worse place. Back before the remake, when I laned against a Kassadin mid while playing Malzahar, it was very much a game of skill and outplaying my 'Voidbro' to try and get the edge. However, after the remake I don't see Kassadin as a threat. I can make stupid moves and lazy plays and still come out ahead and crush Kassadin. Kassadin, compared to most mages I lane against, is simply trash and he needs a major buff.

This doesn't even take into account facing an AD mid who he is even weaker against.

While Kassadin doesn't possess the same ridiculous presence that he had before the changes, he's far and away much more healthy. When I say better, I mean healthier. Now he has reasonable counter-play and can't just faceroll teams anymore. You're going to have to give me a little more to work with than your own personal experiences because I have no way of knowing the skill differential or other factors. Maybe he has a weaker laning phase, but he scales so much better into the lategame and has a much more cohesive kit.

Nilok1 votes

While I do agree his gameplay is healthier for fighting against him, he now lacks the ability to faceroll anyone, even when ahead. I severely disagree with the statement he scales better into late game, he scales to average in late game, not better. He starts out with an okay, but weak presence early game, weakens mid game, and becomes average late game.

FirstSergeantBim1 votes

I guess we can agree to disagree. I would rather live in a world where players can't just faceroll with certain champions because they're unbalanced.

When I say Kassadin has a strong late game, I mean that there is no one that can match his mobility and burst potential. No one can run away from him and no one can catch him until he runs out of mana, but if he does run out of mana, he has the tools to replenish it. Just watch Innox play Kassadin in the TDK vs. NME 5 game series. He picks Kassadin twice, both games he just completely destroys their team and it only gets worse later on in the game.
