The price of Lootboxes may need to be reduced.
I couldn't edit the title, but I meant Hextech Chests (not loot boxes)
Anyway, lets talk about the good so we are all aware and know what riot is thinking.

Going into 2018 you're also gonna get skin content through things like events and honor (lets call them orange shards; since we're really talking about anything that can be disenchanted into orange essence). We lowered the disenchant rate on shards, and we're giving out more shards.
So this is the trade-off: less essence, but more shards.
SO what does that mean? It means you are getting the same amount of orange essence (overall) but just getting more for shards for free and more shards from other sources. This is what they mean by spreading out shards over a wider area, and also what they mean by "bad-luck" protection.
More shards means you have a higher chance of receiving the champ skins you want because you are re-rolling the rng more and more.
Although, this new system has offset the cost of rp chests, Riot has already admitted that this is a problem that they're currently working on.

I do see people here talking about how this hurts those who like paying money for chests, and that specific problem is one I think we’ll have lots of discussions about internally.
For those people who lost money investing into hextech chests before this preseason, giving out boxes to those people who bought into the old system may be an appropriate way to appease them. Another solution may be to extend the deadline to get essence worth the value of the old system, and market that date definitively. Doing one or the other may ease the transition to the new system.
However, one problem I can definitely see is that the price needs to be reduced on lootboxes. If the value of essence was reduced significantly, then that means the value of rolling lootboxes has also been decreased. The current price doesn't match the scale of their worth.
The cost of these boxes should be scaled back to fit the new system. (and they probably will be, we just gotta give riot enough time to think about it)
