Unpopular opinion: I'd rather have someone on my team that's good and toxic then bad and friendly

EmollientNut0··13 votes·1,040 views

This came to my mind after playing a ranked match in which someone asked me for a top/support swap, I said no (Since it's my least played role and I'm not very successful at it) so the piece of shit locks Warwick and goes bot with that. The Jhin complained about him the whole time and naturally I flamed him quite a bit for being a child and locking WW support when he didn't get his way, but he was "Friendly with a positive outlook."

Doesn't matter that bot lane lost their turret by 8 minutes in giving the enemy Ziggs 500 extra gold, doesn't matter that he ruined a ranked match for his own selfish reasons, doesn't matter that mechanically he wasn't very good and did nothing to help his other laner or team, doesn't matter that he didn't buy a Sightstone. Nope, none of that matters because he's "friendly," so report the top laner that's actually trying instead of him.

not every game is winnable, but every game should be pleasant.

And how often do you come across a toxic and good player?

The only time people are toxic is when they are losing and frustrated.

Well... I'm a bit ashamed of this but sometimes when I'm doing well and playing very well and trying to lead my team to come back, I get very frustrated when they play really badly and ignore me and don't group and try and two-man baron when the enemy shaco and nunu are up... then sometimes I... well i'm not so much TOXIC as I have high expectations. I won't be babyraging and calling people stuff but I won't hide the fact that we need to play better to win.

You're certainly a bigger man than I am then. I just can't hold back the flame at times haha.

I've seen a lot of toxic good players.

Me too. But they're probably from a higher elo and salty because the fell lower.

Nope, I have a friend who is toxic and is diamond.

Yeah, rank and toxicity don't have a whole lot in common. Some people just hate seeing little mistakes that cost an entire match. You know, like having half your laner's CS or locking WW support. The little things.

Huh, because my experience with toxicity includes refusing to group and stick with us (in bronze staying together and going for something is usually better than half of us doing one thing and half doing another), and leave without explaining why. Doesn't matter if they stomped their lane, I still count that as a bad player.

There is different types of toxicity. Verbal toxicity isn't going to make a person play bad. It's just going to make them more like an ass. Unlike Rito suggests, correlation does not equal causation. Is it more likely for them to play worse? Yes. Are there people who can control their toxicity to the point in which it doesn't affect their game play but still can be toxic? Yes. Even bringing up Rito statistics, the percentages were not very high in my book.

Also, what you said isn't really 'toxic'. It's more trolling and refusing to communicate with team. Split pushing is also a thing, so I can't even tell if you are salty about people who can get their objectives prioritized better than most of the team or about a real troll. I'm not talking about Trundle either.

Most of the good players I come across are toxic, stemming from watching people make huge mistakes.

I'm ok with playing with toxic shit-bags. After I mute them they are not as toxic.

EmollientNut01 votes

They can't be if you can't hear them. People who throw gas on the toxic flame are even worse than the toxic player themself, I think.

Zen Ineth3 votes

I agree. You can always mute a jerk, but you can't do anything to make someone on your team play better.

DAMN FUCKING RIGHT. Oh i int feeded 6kills to the enemy darius bUT DONT WORRY THE POWER OF UNICORN WILL SAVE OUR TEAM FROM THE LVL 16 DARIUS when we are lvl 13. Friendship wins games!!

EmollientNut01 votes

I kinda have a personal dislike for the hopeless optimism in this game as well. This is a game about knowledge and mechanics, not your mood.

The problem is, we can mute toxic people, but we cant just press a button and they will either stop afking or inting, or make their decision making better.

The KnightOwl2 votes

I would prefer someone who is toxic and good at the game by far, who plays to lose? Besides, there is a mute button.

EmollientNut01 votes

Apparently a few people on here play to lose since they'd rather have the latter haha. I just go the muting route myself.

Id take a toxic good player any day of the week, a friend of mine is super toxic as in he has 3 perma banned accounts but hes really good and usually can carry, even in like 4v5s

iLLp2 votes

i'll take assholes who are good at the game every single day.

i can't stand having useless teammates.

That guy wasn't "bad and friendly", he was toxic because he was griefing his team with his pick and the way he played. There are other types of toxicity than verbal toxicity.

Bad is when you are honestly trying your best but still fail. Griefing is when you are intentionally playing badly and trying to make your team lose.

LunarMageRem1 votes

Personally I'd take an entire team of bad, but friendly players over toxic ones. ^_^;;

I can enjoy a game where I lost if I at least did well, but I find games where everyone is telling each other to drink bleach and kill themselves leave me in a sour mood regardless of if we won or how I did.

Besides I often find toxic players even when they play well tend to drag the team down as it might tigger someone rage quitting or intentionally feeding as revenge, leaving everyone else in a 4v5. ^_^;; At the very least it will be demotivational leading to some players only half trying.

Unfortunately they rarely play well too, in my games at least. Usually the toxic players are doing badly and just looking for someone to blame for their 16 deaths, cause you know if the jungler or support had been better they wouldn't have made stupid tower dives. XD
