why is recommended build even an option?

It's annoying to see champs building mr items into ad champs.

Ad maokai and Ad nautilus op :). Also, you might see some ap caitlyns lol. Lol would be so strange to new comers that didn't know what item to build on certain champions.

Sometimes I forget what items I should buy on a certain champion. Recommended items help me to remember. It also helps when you are new on the champion. Building magic resist vs full ad champions is another issue, people still build spirit visage on darius/mundo due to it's other stats even though it has magic resist. I don't know if it's a good idea or not (personally I wouldn't go spirit visage vs full ad).

Spirit visage is i daresay core. 25% amped healing on draintanks is fucking insane.

sure the MR is a bit lost but the extra health you get and the passive makes up for it. sometimes items aren't 100% gold efficient, but that doesn't make them bad. it just makes them not as good as they could be.

every Build is, taken by that perspective, non-optimal since it is situational

also the down-vote squad is ignoring the fact that recommended doesn't give both options. Like build this vs ap or build this vs ad.
