what is a tank?

Basically me complaining from all my salty games on the rift

Every now and again I like to que up with some friends and we like to dick around and lose, simply because it's fun. But when I try to get wins, we find it nearly impossible unless 3 of us pick this weird thing called a juggernaut, which everyone is referring to as a tank.

I'm talking of course of champions like Darius, Fiora, Renekton. Champions who deal very high damage while proving to be neigh unstopable, but can be killed with crazy cc and LCS outplay tactics. But require very little skill to actually become that dreadnaught of pain.

Anytime there is a fiora top we actually leave top...we don't bother fighting her and giving her free gold off a kill that we don't know how to prevent. Some of you are already just writing down about how I don't know what I'm talking about, or it's very simple to fighting them never give up, etc. But no, you need to just wait a few minutes because, fighting fiora nobody has fun, she does because she feels like a god for being able to press a button that is not a skill shot, deal damage straight through your armor, not only block or absorb but reflect your stun and burst back at you.An ult that allows her to deal more true damage....that's just dirty.

Darius....Illaoi's champion spotlight made me want him more than her >.>

A tank would be someone like shen, who is actually becoming more of a bruiser/juggernaut. Their whole point is to have a lot of life 1 decent damaging attack high utility and some form of cc to aid your team in more strategic play. Instead they're just champions you pick have twice as much health while still dealing the same if not more damage than enemy adc and mid laner combined. It's not really the champion although their kits make it more ubnoxious >.> it's these items. Sunfire, deadman's, blackcleaver. Idk what this titanic hydra is but apparently this didn't exist too long ago and it just sounds ridiculous. All these items give hp/ad and some form of utility. deadmans give movespeed and a powered up auto from said speed "hecarim 101" black cleaver has armor pen built into it sunfire is just annoying as all hell >.>

Good tank items are thornmail 1 flat stat with a very useful effect, reflecting 30% of their damage back at them which is good against an adc, only I never really see it bought anymore, but if it had hp on it, every game it would be bought.

tldr; certain items shouldn't have the stats they have and even be available for specific champs.

There are different kinds of tanks: All-in machines, Meatshields, and Juggernauts

  1. All-in machines usually aim to blow their full rotation in one combo. They can sometimes offer decent burst damage and usually have very potent CC. Some exceptions are like Hecarim who doesn't specialize in CC but makes up for it for having almost assassin-like burst if he sets up properly. Other examples would be Malphite , Sejuani , or Gnar that fall into this category. These champions do NOT specialize in standing in the middle of a fight and absorbing damage for the sake of absorbing damage, usually they have an agenda and that's why I prefer this playstyle.
  • It IS a problem when these champions never fking die while maintaining their damage/CC (ie Cinderhulk meta Sejuani)

  • It's not really a problem if these champs get "melted" like the boards says. These champions don't really need to live long after they do their job unless you're going for the Amumu pentakill.

  1. Meatshields are the tanks that I personally don't enjoy playing. These champions usually have meh damage and decent CC that is usually sustained (ie, their CC isn't tied to their ult like Malphite). HOWEVER these champions make up for their poor damages/not the best CC with super defensive stats, these champions are designed to be in a teamfight for several seconds.
  • It IS a problem when these particular champions get "melted" like the boards always complains about.

  • It IS a problem when these champions deal absurd damage (ie Sunfire/IBG/Grasp Nautilus cancer a while ago)

Champions that fall into this category would be Nautilus , Shen , Taric , Alistar , Sion , etc. Not every champ is expected to have the same damage or CC but usually they are of similar tankiness.

  1. The last category would be Juggernauts. These champions offer little to no CC, but instead are very difficult to kill and they deal a TON of damage at almost all points of the game. Juggernauts are usually immobile so the best way to beat them is by kiting them, if they manage to actually get in range of you, expect to take a huge punishment. I don't play juggernauts so I can't say much about them.

Examples would be Darius , Nasus , Trundle , Mordekaiser , etc. I'm sure most people are familiar with this term after that (painful) juggernaut update last season.

Yours is by far the best comment, although the naut update is going to make him have some better cc. I have a hard time kiting nasus unless I buy a qss and ghostblade while taking ghost to escape him. Now maybe if I had a veigar and I was ashe. Trundle. Is also very hard to escape kiting doesn't work well with a lot of adcs, cait and vayne can easily kite, and so can kalista but I'm not gonna even try to learn that atm. Ashe's slow is pretty pathetic unless I buy a frozen mallet or have 100% crit so his 2 slows and 2 speed boosts make him unescapable for adcs without a dash. Morde? meh I kill him in just about an instant every game he's played

Nautilus is a tank Darius and Illaoi are juggernauts (tanky carries. They are supposed to deal DPS levels of damage. In return, they are immobile, have little to no CC, and are easily kiteable) Fiora is a melee ADC, who can build glass cannon and rely on player skills to survive, or build a bit more durable as a heavy fighter, and not do as much upfront damage. Shen is less a tank then a duelist fighter.

Is there any real way to deal with fiora? I can fight he pretty much just face mashing each other as garen, then everyone cries because I played garen.

Ever heard of kiting? peeling? If you get in melee range of a juggernaught as a carry, you deserve to lose (unless you're a melee hardcarry like Jax MasterYi )

Yes I'll just walk away from a nasus with wither. Well qss will save me right? I mean ashe has a slow in her kit, the slow is also based off her crit, so rock 100% crit ashe? and who's to say he doesnt have ghost, well I can flash. Oh look his wither is back up. Most of those tanks have a gapcloser, or form of hard cc to just instant kill you in the blink of an eye. Yes I avoid getting in those situations I tend to play shyvana who really can outrun anyone, the only adc who can even escape me is usually vayne and she doesn't really get away for very long unless I get wall pinned and her tank shows up.

Yeah because ofc as an adc you show up next to a Nasus in a splitpush scenario, right?

Graves should be labeled a juggernaut because of his kit, resist stacking and the way he has to get in your face.

I think of him more like a skirmishing assassin like Lee sin, Fizz, Elise, Kassadin, Ekko, etc. Basically the champs that you really don't want to roam/gank you and they generally do better in 2v2s and 3v3s

It's a large armored vehicle with high offensive amd defensive ability through long range cannons, missiles, machine guns, sophisticated targeting systems, communication suites, and lately electronic warfare capability as well.
