Why is matchmaking so bad

How is it possible for your matchmaking to pit 2 mid laners, one meandering in the bottom of plat 5 (silver border, grats on him) and another heading into plat 2 with a win streak (diamond border), against each other? This isn't even the old days where you don't know who's going where, you know. You know these 2 people are going mid and are going to play each other, how is it possible your matchmaking system thought yerp just roll out????

because the plat5's MMR will be higher than his rank due to his win streak and the diamond from last season will be lower as he has probably dropped a tier or two now trying hard to get back up but is probably finding it too tough.

the system really isn't bad at all at matching players to players, DynQ was horrenduous for balance but only in the higher tiers of play.

For most of the time this is true, but my main acct is a Silver 2 (been boucning between silver 1 and 2 now a lot so I think my MMR is a high silver), and I've faced more than my fare share of Diamond players whose mmr (according to the site) was normal for that tier. I don't think Diamonds should face Silvers. I'm still on the edge of having to face high gold as a high silver. I've personally never faced someone an entire Tier lower than me (which is bronze which may be an exception) but facing an entire tier above you doesn't seem right. There is a lot to learn between Silver 1 and Gold 1 I suspect or I wouldn't have so much trouble getting into gold if we're pretty much the same skill.
