You know, I figured out why Ornn's winrate is so low

It's really not because he's necessarily bad. No, no.

And it's honestly not so much that his teammates misunderstand his passive and buy items they shouldn't. While that doesn't help, it's not really particularly breaking.

No. I can almost guarantee the reason why Ornn's numbers are low right now is because of his brittle effect.

Now, this is probably a pretty confusing statement. "TC, why would an effect that's really strong and meta be the reason Ornn's numbers are low? That makes no sense whatsoever." But that is actually just it. This effect actually dooms Ornn as a champion to be either completely underwhelming or utterly overpowered.

This occurred to me out of all the games I've had to fight an Ornn. Yes he is very strong in lane and feels very oppressive when trading most of the time unless you straight counter him. However, every game I've had to play against an Ornn, Ornn would basically break down and become next to useless later, being nothing but a CC bot with the tankiness of a 900 foot thick brick wall defending against a spoon. But again, hardly any damage later with nothing but CC to offer.

Cue Skarner. Or Sej or really much of any jungler with long CC chains. I only use Skarner because he was the one that made me realize, because up until this point Ornn was basically a laughable champ to me.

But come level 6, getting ganked by Skarner with Ornn basically meant that I could not move - literally could not move or fight - for longer than 5 full seconds straight. Did it help that I was Yorick this game? Not really. Since my only defense is a slow and a wall that quite literally makes it easier for Ornn to knock me up, I will have to say that this didn't help. But honestly, I highly doubt that any other champ would have really fared much better other than maybe Nautilus, because longer than 5 seconds of CC tends to mean that somebody's going to die one way or another. Try as I did to avoid this - including hiding under my turret - the CC chain was so utterly long I couldn't get an ability off if I wanted.

See, the issue isn't that Ornn himself is strong or that Ornn himself is ever going to be utterly broken. The issue is that the Brittle effect exclusive to Ornn turns him into a nightmare with a complimentary team. If Ornn's team is packing a lot more CC, then Ornn is strong. Because Ornn has been given something that makes him a vicarious CC bot - he crowd controls enemies through his teammates just as much as with his own CC chain.

This dooms him. Because if Ornn is able to really carry by himself, then Ornn would be utterly broken with literally any backup, making him able to dish out near endless CC chains along with the ability to gimp any competition. If Ornn's balanced around his ability to buff his team's CC, then Ornn would have to lose basically all of his dueling/solo potential, which is all but non-existent once he hits mid-late game. This would also make Ornn a complete liability on any team not packing enough CC to suppress the people of North Korea.

Ornn's basically in a limbo because of this effect. He can't be made independent because of how much power he gives his own team, and if his team doesn't work with him in their picks then Ornn's doomed to lose practically every time.

It's honestly difficult to say how you can balance this - or if you even can. I will say that there are some ideas that should stay ideas. This may very well be one of them.

The problem with Ornn is that he has too many weaknesses for the small amount of strengths he has. None of his CC is reliable, all of them are too telegraphed, and in the case of his E, too situational. Having a passive that allows people to buy beefed up versions of existing items sounded cool at first, but then you find it it's literally just stat increases to the item, which also sucks power budget out of his kit and is not meaningful gameplay in itself.

Lore and theme wise, I love this champion. I seriously love his personality and the fact that there are fucking campfire stories told to children about Ornn. But gameplay wise, I think they took him off the anvil too quickly
