TIL how Luden's Echo really works with Karthus ult.

D2Vincent··91 votes·13,890 views

Read the /r Karthusmains Reddit page, and according to what I read, the target of the luden's proc during a Karthus ult is ALWAYS whoever top of the scoreboard, which means that you CAN rearrange the scoreboard to change the target of Luden's proc for a Karthus ult. (if whoever is top of the scoreboard is already dead, then it goes down the list.)

Plot twist; the scoreboard is actually a pair of pages in Karthus' necronomicon.

That's kinda cool to think about.

So you can pick a low hp target for the ludens proc? And the rest of the time the squishiest most problematic enemy?

Yes, exactly right

yeah, you didnt know that? it's an easy way to take dragon, buffs, and baron

I'd hardly say easy, it still takes timing it down over 3 seconds and factoring in the Luden's splash.

BLACK REALM GOD2 votes

if you have a camp warded and damage numbers on it's easy. jungler always has smite right? so you just watch the camp and press R to claim since smite does around 390-1000 true damage and then drop your R for somewhere between 150-300 damage.

edit

if whoever is taking the camp isnt jungler then you're golden because they cant smite last hit it from you.

edit2

and if you miss on a camp like drake it takes longer than your R's cooldown for it to respawn anyway.

that's one of the benefits of karthus jungler.

MissingKayo7 votes

But, if it's above 390-1000 health, and they see you start to channel, they would just stop hitting it. If it's 390-1000, they'd just Smite it?

BLACK REALM GOD2 votes

if they stop attacking it you just successfully defended the camp. if they keep attacking it and end up taking it you still dealt damage to their entire team and could possibly have just earned an assist. if a camp like drake is warded your team usually tries to contest the camp right? so you just initiated a teamfight and are in good position to make a play on some kills (hopefully) unless you're altar smiting... which isnt recommended

I'd be beyond tilted if that happened to me.

BLACK REALM GOD3 votes

yeah, but it'd be your fault for not disengaging ^_^ so it'd be like salt in the wounds. karthus's ultimate is one of the most spectacular in league not because it's powerful, but because people fail to react to it all the time even though it's the equivalent of a giant red siren flashing and wailing right in front of you.

Yeah, but that ult wouldn't kill dragon alone, Luden would be the only thing that could kill it as a result. that's what would be tilting, something completely unexpected.

BLACK REALM GOD1 votes

like 5 enemies hiding in a bush to pounce you as jungler instead of going to lane?

That's just because you're playing in low tier bronze. Your arguments may very well be valid in these divisions. Of course you CAN steal objectives with Karthus's ult. But using the ult solely with the intention of trying to steal the actual objective, rather than getting the enemies low, making them back off, putting pressure etc. would not get you very far.

Karthus's ult is great, just not at stealing objectives. Even though it's technically possible doesn't mean it's the best use of his ultimate. You'll be more succesfull holding onto it for when you really need it.

Super easy. Wondering why people even take smite anymore.

BLACK REALM GOD4 votes

390-1000 true damage every 75 seconds. restores hp based on your life and grants gold and xp from camps.

lots of reasons.

i'll paraphrase for you and everyone else so everyone can follow the conversation

OP - "when playing karthus and using his ulti you can choose who gets attacked with ludens echo by swapping names around"

Me - "no duh, plus you can do this. it's actually pretty easy - links video"

You - "PEOPLE SHOULD TAKE SMITE LESS OFTEN THEN! (sarcastic jerk voice with herpity derps included) "

Me - (trying to be nice) "Smite actually helps a lot as a jungler so i wouldnt recommend it"

You "I was kidding because i thought you were kidding"

Me "i'm not"

You "Yes you were. here's proof that i know more about what you said than you do even though you said it and i could have very easily read it wrong, but since im an ass even if that were the case im still going to argue with you and make it look like you're the idiot because im an ass."

i hope that helps with any confusion.

ChaoticPinecone10 votes

Let me paraphrase for you how it came off:

OP - "when playing karthus and using his ulti you can choose who gets attacked with ludens echo by swapping names around"

You - in herp derp voice "no duh, plus you can do this. it's actually pretty easy - links video" (to a clip that shows that its extremely difficult and never feasible, especially if you have to swap names around in tab to get the proc on the right target beforehand).

Me trying to run with a bad joke - "Oh yeah - totally easy. No need for smite anymore"

You - "of course you fucking need smite you dumbass. You do 390-1000 true damage to monsters every 75 seconds, along with it basically being mandatory for junglers for the increased EXP and gold gain"

Me - ......????

You - I wasnt joking dumbshit. Now let me condescendingly be an ass to you for no fucking reason at all.

I hope that shows how ridiculous you look.

un·a·mused [ˌənəˈmyo͞ozd] ADJECTIVE

not responding in a positive way to something intended to be amusing; feeling somewhat annoyed or disapproving:

you dont change the name last second. you do it when the match starts and assign it to jungler. then support wards drake usually on a regular basis and as karthus jungler you ward baron and camps. when someone tries to take a camp that you havent had time to take if it's an important camp you use your R. it's not hard. it's not challenging. it requires very little effort or knowledge. all you need to know is how R works, how ludens interacts with R, and how Ludens works, and how damage is calculated. that's 4 things and you get up to 10 chances per match to do it.

i cant help that you misread my comment and then commented sarcastically. so if you want to be unamused at someone you should be unamused at yourself for goofing up in the first place. im not going to feel sorry for you or let you make me feel bad just because you assumed i meant something i didnt. you should have just asked what i meant if the statement was that unbelievable.

ChaoticPinecone3 votes

Okay, if its so easy - go record me a video of a real game (ahem - not a youtube clip on URF) of you stealing Dragon with a Karthus ult.

Since you get up to 10 times a game to do it, it shouldnt take that long. I'll be waiting.

BLACK REALM GOD1 votes

how do i use the replay feature they added to share videos?

SrirachaLimes1 votes

This is not true. You have to time it perfectly such that your Ludens proc will steal the dragon. This is not easy to do if:

  1. There are multiple people attacking baron such that the damage dealt to baron is consistently changing over time.

  2. The jungler has smite and knows how to use it.

  3. The jungler waits for karthus channel to finish before proceeding to engage with the objective.

Smite is better for securing objectives. Riven engaged on the dragon and didn't have smite (she wasn't jungle). If she did, she could have smited it much earlier before Karthus even finished channeling the ult.

BLACK REALM GOD1 votes

1 damage calculated 2 every jungler knows how to use smite. it's not rocket science. this is not a factor 3 if your team can see the enemy team trying to take drake and as a karthus you start your R and they dont engage to contest then they belong in wood division. if they're dead that's one thing, but why would a karthus waste his ultimate without any chance of anything? that'd be silly. other than that the drake will deal damage to the enemies that are fighting it and if you dont try to steal it from shrine like a ninny you should be close enough to dive it and zhonya to kill whoever is still there.

i never said smite was worse. i never said riven was the jungler.

SrirachaLimes2 votes
  1. You cannot calculate changing damage. You cannot predict the future. One of them might stop. A team fight may break out.

  2. Yes. You're right that the majority of junglers know how to use smite. Do you see why this would be a problem? Do you see why it would be a very, very huge problem if the enemy jungler knows how to use smite when you're trying to steal the objective with a luden's proc? Do you see the problem? If you don't see the problem, you need to reread this paragraph as many times as it takes.

I never said that you said smite was worse. I never said that you said riven was the jungler. You misunderstood my points.

My point was that a semi-competent jungler will out smite a luden's proc. Hence making it very difficult to pull off.

BLACK REALM GOD1 votes

maybe i'm over-estimating the capabilities of people who dont play karthus normally or underestimating my own then.

i apologize for arguing about something that i find easy that many may not.

I prefer this clip as proof of rearrangement working. I was skeptical at first and thought it was whoever happened to start at the top of the scoreboard (at least before scoreboard was auto-sorted by role), but it seems that rearrangement legitimately does work.

Legitimate Proof! This is what I like to see :D

RavenMagus1 votes

Huh, really?

As far as I am aware, the way Ludens is supposed to work on any multitarget spell is that it's supposed to proc on whatever target has the lowest health.

Maybe it's just how Karthus's ult is coded, though - 5 spells one after another instead of one spell with 5 targets?...

Jorencice2 votes

More like 5 single target spells that happens all at the same time.

RavenMagus1 votes

Well, if it is coded as 5 separate spells, then there's likely a tiny fraction of a second delay between each one. For what it's worth.

Serika Zero1 votes

yeh, like 0.0000000000001 sec delay between the spells ;) code, usually, is executed in sequences like:

show khartus ult on the first target show khartus ult on second target . . etc

not show khartus ult on all targets at the same time

similar to how if you code: 1+2+3+4+5+6= the computer does 1+2=3, 3+3=6, 6+4=10, 10+5=15, 15+6=21 and then shows you 21 as a result. Even if for you, it looks like almost instant. Or, it happened at the same time you pressed equal.

We also have parallel process/thread programming. Think like you have both skype and league working at the same time. But that's used in different scenarios. Certainly this is not one of them.

A few minutes in a practice game shows this to be inaccurate, at least when playing against bots.

MXXXXXL1 votes

Practice mode only allows 1 bot on the enemy team.

Mr Noggenfogger2 votes

Can you not assume from practice "game" that* he meant a custom game with 5 ai opponents? I'm also pretty sure that it was common knowledge that you can't switch the target with moving then around, it just targets who was at the top when you started the game regardless

Avios15 votes

He should have said Custom tbh, since Practice will be linked to Practice Tool more often.

Can confirm.
