@Meddler What exactly did the Zyra Ai Tweaks touch up on?
Title^

Plants should now consistently target Zyra's most recent auto attack target, rather than sometimes attacking things Zyra had attacked previously. They'll also interact a bit better with FoW and should be a bit more responsive around their facing/tracking of targets. Might be some other more subtle stuff, can't recall off the top of the head.
Got a playtest in on the AI changes yesterday and they felt reasonable to me (I play a moderate amount of Zyra). Nothing that felt dramatically different, so not sure if I'd have known the changes were there if I hadn't been told, did feel like there weren't the moment or two of plants being unresponsive I'd normally notice in a game though.
Thanks for the reply. Glad to hear the responsive-ness was cleaned up. Now I can stop stealing my Adc's CS or Kills! (But secretly I did want too)
Now I just have to ask, what's in store for Syndra? :3 Would that be too much to ask, or shall I wait like the others.

Hi Meddler, Are you saying that if I auto-attacking the champion more than minions, the plants would priority that specific champion when they are in range of the plants? For example, if I auto-attack Yasuo the most and summon the plants to attack him, will the plants continue to priority him when he gets out of the plant's range or attacking minions instead? or do I have to auto-attack him again to make the plants switch the target? Sorry if I'm confusing you.
Zyra's plant logic will not be that much different. Here's the actual logic for those curious:
The changes in 5.18 are that: 2 and 5 now use "most recent" over "closest", allowing Zyra to better re-direct plants to higher priority targets; Plants will no longer get hung up on invisible targets, such as champions in fog of war; Plants will no longer sometimes mis-believe that they attacked on spawn (which caused a long delay before their first real attack); Plants will quickly move to face the target they are going to attack next, so you can get a better sense for how your actions shape their priorities.
Zyra's plant logic will not be that much different. Here's the actual logic for those curious:
- Units that have taunted the plant (e.g., Shen), whatever their range.. they will just stare at an out of range unit while taunted
- Champs Zyra has auto-attacked in the last 3 seconds (prioritizing most recently attacked)
- Champs that have recently been attacked by any plant (prioritizing nearest)
- Champs within 350 units of the plant -- for reference, 350 is the size of Lee Sin's E1 or Evelynn's R (prioritizing closest)
- Non-champs Zyra has AA'd (prioritizing most recently attacked)
- Any unit in range (prioritizing closest)

Are there any changes planned for the root duration of her E? Because the cast animation is so long that at rank 1 Zyra can't actually close the gap because it feels like she stands still for roughly the same duration as the root.
It's 0.75 / 1 / 1.25 / 1.5 / 1.75 now perhaps it can be changed to 1 / 1.25 / 1.75 at rank 1, 3 and 5?
While you're working on the code for Zyra's plants, could you also take a look at her passive? It'd be great if you made it so players can't cast (or "queue") the passive until it's actually ready to go off. Keep the same "bloom" delay, but if you press a button during the bloom period, it just doesn't do anything. Once the passive has finished blooming, then you can cast it.
It really sucks to queue your passive in the wrong direction during a heated teamfight, and then have nothing to do but sit there and wait two seconds for your team to realize you're a moron.
Bonus points: make it so when Zyra dies, pressing any QWER key casts her passive even if she hasn't learned that spell yet. I refuse to disclose how many times I've switched my spell order and then died at level 1 and thought my passive wasn't working because I kept mashing a key for a spell I didn't know yet.

These are really nice changes :) Thanks a lot.

I have to admit that I don't play a lot of Zyra, so someone should correct me if I'm wrong, but I feel that numer 4 isn't there.. I don't notice it. Usually if a champ goes near the plant it keeps attacking minions or whatever. Also I feel numer 3 and 4 should be swapped in priority.. thoughts?
I believe the number 4 logic only applies to the first plant attack....
Yes I noticed that the 1st attack of the plant usually works but the second is on the minions. I believe you are right but Meddler is sayng it should not happen!
It seems that when they reverted her ult changes they also reverted all the plant AI fixes. Currently on the PBE they act just like live
Hey could you check, when the PBE version gets the AI improvements, if the plants attack a champion in a 250 units radius as meddler said? I tried to do it in the live client but it doesn't seem to work..
thanks!
Currently what happens is this.
If you Spawn a plant near a Enemy champ but do not hit them with the spell that spawned it, the plant will attack the closest enemy (be that Champ or minion)
If you hit the enemy champ with the spell then the plant will attack said champ ONCE then move to closest minion.
If you AA the enemy champ the plant will attack that champ for 3s or until they are out of range (what ever is shorter), then they reset to closest enemy.
If an Enemy AAs a plant it will attack that champ for 3s or until out of range (what ever is shorter) then reset.
Without you hitting the enemy with a spell or a AA the plant will attack the closest enemy .
They do not follow the list above and so I think when they pulled Zyras ult update they pulled ALL fixes to her.
Thank you very much :)

This is news to me. If I'm understanding this correctly, 3 & 4 have always been part of the plants' AI? Those two combined mean that if Zyra QWs right on an enemy, the plant will attack the champion (because of 4), and then will continue to attack the champion as long as they stay in the plant's range (because of 3). In my experience this doesn't happen reliably on live (the only way to get plants to attack a champion reliably is to autoattack them). Has anything changed on this front?
Previously, I understood the plant would target any champion in range for first AA, then transition to recently attacked target, yada yada, onto closest unit. Time to pay attention.... lel

Would it be possible to make plants enraged by her ultimate have priority number four be the closest enemy champion in range rather than being limited to 350 range?

Oh my god. Final-fucking-ly. This alone is going to be huge.
I really hope points 3 and 4 are going to be implemented properly this time because on live plants will change targets even if the champion has been tagged. At first I read it had something to do with Zyra's vision but I didn't think that was in a literal sense but I noticed the target swapping occurs more often when you back off when you literally turn away and would "lose sight" physically.
I'll put this in a thread by itself, but after the patch has gone out it definitely seems like 2, 4 and 5 are working properly, but 3 does not seem to be working at all. Tested this with both 1 plant getting an auto (due to 4), and having the champ walk into the adjacent range, and 2 plants next to each other that both get an auto before having the champ walk. Both instances, the plants deaggroed once the enemy was out of the 350 sensor range, despite having been auto'd by a plant.
I honestly believe they should have the same logic as Heimer's turrets which allow selection of a target via attack click rather than landing a basic attack. Plus, the plants are not prioritizing champions otherwise, and Zyra shouldn't be up in an adc's face trying to make the plants function properly. Heimer had the perfect model for this, and I have no idea why it was not followed.
People keep saying that vine lashers feel lackluster now that slows don't stack and Rylai's is core, since thorn spitters slow from range being overall superior. Any plans on helping with that?
I play Zyra a ton and to me it feels like the Plants got a attack speed buff (very slightly) but maybe it is that on life they are bugging out and missing attacks so on test it feels like they are attacking faster but it is just that they are working correctly now.
Few things that would be nice to see for Zyra
Thorn slow be the same as other mages slows (better then Rylai's slow) Ulted Plants Prioritize Closest Champion always Plants HP be 3 hit and not HPS. Late game they die way to fast to AOE/DOT champs Zyra's Passive rework. It currently is basically nothing
Seeing as Zyra's plants are similar to Heimer's turrets, will you actually be fixing them anytime soon?
Can you guys touch up the AI on Malz Voidlings while we're at it?
If Visions runs out with nothing to jump to the Voidlings will just stand around mindlessly unless you auto attack something or move to the edge of their leash range.
That's kinda how they work though. When they disengage a target, they wander back over to you, and then start trying to kill the next thing nearest, if you hadn't auto'd/aids something.
Very good buff. The AI of the plants was a major issue on zyra ( first auto on champ when spawn, then they attack minnions..)
In my opinion she should also receive a MINOR buff on another of her ability ( very very very minor buff or she will become too strong) OR a movement speed buff. But the AI change should be enought for this patch.
Great work !
So after the update to remove the extra .5s knockup on her ult, her plants are acting like live again. No word at all if this is a bug regression or if this is what they want. If it stays like this then they have dont nothing to help Zyra.
The question of which will be most likely not seen since I'm late to the party.
Are there any ideas to include range indicators on her plants that flash when an enemy steps in range? (Bots only, just like turret ranges, but only when playing Zyra.)
I figure this would help new people to learn her better.
So this is what Im seeing on the PBE currently
Units that have taunted the plant (e.g., Shen), whatever their range.. they will just stare at an out of range unit while taunted ---(yep seems so)---
Champs Zyra has auto-attacked in the last 3 seconds (prioritizing most recently attacked) ---(They ONLY attack while they are in range, if they move out of range and then back in they do not retarget champs. Once out of range they forget everything THis is a problem that needs fixing, also should not be overwritten by #5 or #4)---
Champs that have recently been attacked by any plant (prioritizing nearest) ---(This is broken)---
Champs within 350 units of the plant -- for reference, 350 is the size of Lee Sin's E1 or Evelynn's R (prioritizing closest) ---(This is also not working except for first attack, once they attack from being spawned they move to #6 or #5)---
Non-champs Zyra has AA'd (prioritizing most recently attacked) ---(Seems to be working)---
Any unit in range (prioritizing closest) ---(Default working)---
