my control wards usually get removed by the enemy within the blink of an eye so why should i bother keep buying them?

You can use control wards in all sorts of ways. I sometimes use them to bait. Get 2-3 players in a bush and put a control ward right next to it (lol). I often leave them in the drake pit early game. If they disappear- you then know where the enemy jungle is. I usually buy them in sets of 2, so if it gets taken out- you can quickly replace them. Vision is key to victory.

I somewhat agree with you that for the average player control wards are not as impactful as people want to make you believe, but it´s not the control ward´s fault. The problem originates from the way how there is very little map control in lower elos.

Because of that the additional vision that the control ward offers is often not utilized until it gets destroyed. In addition to that teammates are often very uninterested in protecting control wards and keeping lines of vision intact.

This is compounded by the fact that the effectiveness of vision scales somewhat exponentially with the amount of vision available which makes it very easy for the efforts of the one guy warding to get diminished by the few teammates who don´t

all in all, there are still a few situations where control wards can be useful on their own:

  • in bot lane before the support has finished his quest
  • as a last resort ward when a fight is about to start and you need vision immediately
  • deep in your own territory to combat enemy deep wards and invades
  • as bait
