First day Ryze rework win rate stats

Abyssphere··7 votes·2,989 views

Taken from LoLking...

Normals: 44.44% (very small drop off from previously) Overall ranked: 39.81% (5%+ lower than previous) Bronze: 39.65% Gold: 40.69% Diamond: 38.61% (this is the biggest drop in win rate by far)

What do people think? Very early to draw conclusions based on stats and given he's fairly different now I won't say the rework is a failure yet. Hopefully people learn to play him soon or if he really does suck, he gets buffed.

....It's the first day after a rework that changed his gameplay pattern and build a large amount. Not really any use in checking stats when everyone is trying out the new Ryze and it's day 1.

Historical evidence largely supports early post-rework win rates being accurate, but like I said I'm not posting it to draw any sort of conclusion on the rework. I just thought people would like to see the statistics. At the end of the day most of what is discussed on this board is just opinion, so giving people some actual info to dig into is a nice change.

Actually, win rates tend to drop significantly for the first few days after a rework or new champion release, even if the champion itself is still really powerful (such as with the Kassadin rework a while back, for example, or even the Sion overhaul). From my limited experience playing Ryze , I think he may actually receive pretty significant nerfs to some of his abilities, namely his E (it can take out half a melee top laner's health in one hit). Overall, I think he's in a good state, and while I'd like his Q damage to be buffed a little, he seems to be fairly strong.

The one guy I saw playing Ryze yesterday didn't even know the rework was happening. He was all "WTF WHY ARE MY SPELLS DIFFERENT?". This is ~Diamond LOL. (Too early to tell)

Venowolf1 votes

Omg me too, Yesterday in Plat a girl saw, why My Q is a fucking skill-shot what happen, so Ryze need time.

GundayMonday2 votes

Yeah, probably after a week or two we'll see his true strength. He looks INSANE on paper if you build items like item 3001 item 3027 item 3040 item 3025 item 3285 item 3111

Venowolf1 votes

item 3285 is a surprisingly good item on him, because allow you to reach the W and E range, the passive of Luden its very easy to stack on Ryze, because have low cd and spammable skills-

I'm not a fan of item 3025 because the 10% of CD are "gold inneficient" he reach the 40% with the 9 0 21 masteries tree and 30% of the R. If you build previous level 16 can be efficient some time, the MANA , ARNOR, and AP are huge on Ryze the cd and passive not. I personally build item 3026 on him, but not all the games you build the same items.

item 3111 over item 3020 ? With item 3001 he can have the MR neccesary IMO.

item 3001 is another good item on him, because W and E have short ranges, (Abyssal aura is 700, and Wand E are in 550 range) o always benefit on the Aura, with item 3020 is a good amount of Mag Pen.

item 3040 item 3027 Are always core items on him.

But the build that you suggest is in the "right way" to play the new Ryze, You know how to build him ;)

You'd be surprised how many people don't even know that he was reworked yet.

The gameplay rework seems like it's fine, but from what I've been hearing, the shift away from mana ratios to AP ratios puts him in a bad spot where he doesn't deal very much damage when he builds tank items like item 3110 item 3027, but when he builds AP he's just not as good at anything as some other AP mage.

So he's gone from a offtank mage to just a sub-par mage.

This is definitely what it feels like, having mained Ryze in the past. I dunno, maybe I'm just not adapting well, but I see these people saying "OMG Ryze is so much stronger now!" and I compare that to my gameplay experiences, and I'm saying, "Are we playing the same game here?"

Ryze used to be one of my favorite champions, now not so much. That doesn't necessarily mean the rework is bad, but he did lose whatever flavor he had going for him that I liked before (probably: Targeted Q and always-on passive. The rhythm and strengths of playing him are changed to the point where he doesn't really interest me anymore.) Maybe I could change my mind in the future though?

he cant in lane harass as easily, and thats what he was great for. he should see an overall damage buff thanks to higher ap ratio, and new build options, but i still see people building traditional ryze maximuim mana.

Serevas2 votes

I'm personally still going with maximum mana as well. He won't be of much use in a fight if you run out of mana in 5 seconds when he's charged up. Plus to not take advantage of the mana scaling just seems exceptionally wasteful to me. He has a free shield that scales off of mana, all of his abilities do, and he needs a giant mana pool for spam casting.

Not to mention that despite the slightly higher AP ratios on him, they're still kinda pitiful. The only thing with a decent ratio relies on you hitting a perfect grouping to do 120% of AP and the counterpart to that is 8% of maximum mana.

His mana scalings suck compared to his AP ratios, it might as well be that his abilities all scale with level. Which is good, now flat mana itemization can be made to not suck outside of the few select champions it is a must buy on.

Serevas2 votes

K go ahead and build him full AP then when in a late game team fight you have no mana after 5 seconds, you can tell me how much more effective the AP build is.

Hypochondria91 votes

Just build mana and AP, like RoA and Archangels.

The rework just came out, give it like a week and see what happens as people figure out how to play him.

All those stats prove is that there are a lot of dipshits that chose to play a reworked champ the day after he was released.

Well, you won't change much by playing it for the first time 5 days after the rework rather than 1 day after :P

I do find it baffling that so many people would take him into ranked though. Even in Diamond his popularity shot up.

Nucleophilic atk1 votes

Ah, sorry for the confusion. I meant playing a champ ranked a day after release :P my mistake.

Personally I think the Ryze rework is insane it's a difrent Ryze than I'm used to in definitely, First of his combo is only viable during his passive proc so you have to choose your engagements, second he is a combo machine if you can e some one in a group of minions like a double minion wave you can 100-0 then if its a squishy champ easy along with his ult. I am satisfied with his rework and with that said I am a person that enjoy's Ryze as a character I may be ignorant to a few factors about him as a champ his game play different than all the champs when I play him it's a totally different game than playing nasus top or a fizz mid he is an exiting champ to play and is unique, I hope no one figures him out I want to be the best Ryze out there.

Linna Excel2 votes

People are building too much mana on him ATM. I don't think he works if you only build mana now.

Tsohgder1 votes

His win-rate could probably get higher in a few weeks, but I still think they need to buff him a little before we can call this a successful rework (he feels clunky right now).

I actually made a thread about this and went unnoticed.

Ok so just saying I've never played him and haven't yet, but I laned against him last night as Viktor and it was kinda sad.... He ulted then did his rotation, I expected to be dead to almost dead.... I was at 70% Then i comboed him and 100-0. Told him later it tickled.... lol he was just as disappointed.

Kingsgrave1 votes

He is actually difficult to play now, give it time.

Nilok1 votes

It is still early, give it a week.

Though really, I have to laugh hard at that win rate drop, it looks like the stock market after someone says recession. http://www.leagueofgraphs.com/champions/stats/ryze

Drunk Rummate1 votes

He's a lot tankier now than he used to be so I think his winrate will go up little when people adjust to that.

OxBaker1 votes

Honestly, since he's at almost 20% popularity on the first day, it's enough of a sampling that I'll be surprised if his win rate gets above 50%. My guess is the hype's going to die down and his win rate will end up around 47%.

But I wouldn't be surprised if Riot nerfs him anyway because people will QQ about the time in the game when he hit them with a good ult/passive empowered combo that hurt too much and not the 95% of the match where he was underwhelming.

Ryze BUGFIX W - Rune Prison and E - Spell Flux no longer go on cooldown without doing anything if cast on an enemy as they leave Ryze's area of vision

Pretty big bug that would skew win rates.

Impish Yordle1 votes

People on both sides need to adjust to him. Those who play him and those who play against him.

AndyChrono1 votes

If I get the chance, I kind of want to try him building: item 3020 item 3027 item 3040 item 3135 item 3102 item 3143

High sustained AoE DPS and tankyness.

Ryze just got a massive gameplay update. Players are not going to be able to simply pick him back up and expect to do well with him.

That goes for any gameplay update and champion release: if a champion gets released or gets reworked, you can't expect players to do well with them immediately upon learning the champ.

From my own experience, Ryze is a lot harder to play, but I feel that he will be a lot better than he was before once players learn how he plays. And if anything I think he's more fun, even if I'm not that great on him.

junglerboy161 votes

They need to give his Q some unique effect, because making it a skillshot that does nothing but deal damage feels and plays like he's really weak. I would suggest something like making subsequent hits with his Q increase the damage it deals for X seconds, stacking a few times. This actually rewards the fact that it is now a skillshot.

His E also needs a longer bounce range, since it is extremely rare to hit someone and have it bounce to the max number of people unless they are in the center of a minion wave, also, the abilities effective max range was crippled by the change since it doesn't bounce from target to target anymore (which gave it over 1000 total range if you got lucky with your E placement). I've also noticed that it deals far more damage with a couple bounces than the old E, and I'd prefer trading some extra reliability on the bounce for a bit of the damage it deals.

Hellioning1 votes

I dunno, my first game with rework Ryze, I got a double kill when I got ganked. Sure, their jungler was half health, but still...

champion.gg hasn't been updated yet. That is my go to source, particularly after reworks. It is interesting to see how builds, rune page and mastery set ups change.
