Can we make Rappel less clunky?

Leaving aside the bugs introduced to the ability with the most recent patch, Rappel... kind of feels terrible to use a lot of the time. It's a powerful ability but it has really weird failures that make it feel terrible and with Riot trying to make it an important part of her combo, that's not really an acceptable state. Here are some suggestions I have:

  • Reduce the delay when you cast it on an enemy. If Rappel is to be used as an offensive gapcloser consistently, it can't afford to take a full second to reach the enemy (which it currently does). I would suggest reducing the delay to 0.75 seconds, which also has the benefit of giving the enemy less time to run out of Rappel's circle.

  • Make it place you based on where your target will be when you land, not where your target was when you clicked on them. With Rappel being as delayed as it is, your enemy can run several hundred units away from where they were before you actually land. This essentially makes your use of Rappel a complete waste of time and necessitates you using Venomous Bite just for closing the gap that your first attempt at gapclosing just created. Considering how important it is to have Rappel defensively, it really shouldn't have cases where even trying to use it offensively ends in complete failure.

  • On top of that, make it place you as close to your target as possible. Currently even a good Rappel pretty much puts you at the max of your auto attack range and this is a big contributor to how easily kited Elise is.

  • Revert the range nerf it got in the past, at least partially. This isn't very important because the range still isn't that bad but one of the cooler things about Elise in the past was being able to do stuff like jumping over the dragon pit to try and steal it and she can't do that anymore unless there's an enemy champion standing very near the wall. It'd be a small but nice touch to be able to jump over more stuff than before, particularly considering the limitations the ability has regarding being able to jump out of its circle and so on.

I was saying Rappel should allow Elise to land anywhere within the circle to allow for escapes or engages. But if Riot doesn't want to do that, they could at least make it so you can Rappel to allies or wards. Katarina and Lee Sin can ward jump, why not Elise?

Seriosuly, either remove ward jumping all together or let Elise jump on a fucking ward or ally. Her rappel is considered a blink( teleport) just like Katarinas' and she isn't allowed to? I call bs lol.

elise still can jump over the dragon pit for the steal, i only know because i did it yesterday. I totally 100% agree with having 1 of the 2 changes you proposed of having her come down faster or having her land where the target will be, but not both since either one of them will fix the problem of champions being out of range by the time she comes down, but yeah good post

Hmm, that's funny @ dragon pit. Did you manage to land on the dragon itself or was there an enemy champion in the pit for you to jump to? I've tried jumping onto dragon before and discovered he was out of range, but it may be that if he's in combat he'll be pulled into range? Or maybe I was just in a bad area for landing on him, it could be easier depending on where outside of the pit you're jumping from.

There was an enemy in the pit that i could have clicked instead of the dragon, but im 99% sure it was the dragon itself. They did not drag the dragon at all when i did it

I would agree.. Elise i still able to jump on dragon, if he isn't kited from his original position. But you need to get really close to the rocks around the pit, which can be hard if enemies are around and wards are properly placed.

I'm so glad to see so many "Fix Elise" posts. Riot showed a sign that they are aware that she exists, and we're all grabbing as much of that as we can.

as far as where your target was and such they nerfed tht awhile ago. the only single target in the whole game that has a max range. it used to jump on you like it should but nop they nerfed that awhile ago right afetr people stopped using her in the jungle i would say allow her to jump to allies and wards but nope

At first, I thought this was a pokemon reference. Considering you said bugs and that its powerful.

If you stand right outside the dragon pit, you can still drop onto dragon, even if nobody else is there. It's just barely in range.

As for moving targets, I think it should place you based on the speed and direction of your target at the time you begin your descent. That is, it should predict their position, assuming they won't change their direction. That way they can still juke the ability, like dodging a skillshot, but it doesn't miss by a mile every time you use it on someone who's moving. If they did that, I don't think the minimum 1-second delay would really be a problem. This change alone would make Elise feel MUCH better to play, while still providing that all-important "outplay potential".

All your suggestions used to be what Rappel was before. But people whined that Elise could reach them even though they dashed away. And now Elise has a pretty much useless ability because a running enemy is always out of Q range even after you cast Rappel.

Odd that people whined about it considering it's the same concept as a Lee Sin Q. After he hits it he can dash to you no matter how far you are :P

Rappel does feel terrible, mainly because of the weird delay when you use it on a target before you go up and back down. It should be quicker. That would also be a solid buff for Elise.
