Can we make devourer do physical damage instead of magic damage?
That way it is a little bit easier to counterbuild.

Two things should be kept in mind, First: you can amplify physical damage using
meanwhile magic damage is amplified by this
. <---- two very different things, this change would nerf the likes of
&
while buffing
&
I imagine.
Two: the onhit bonus is likely to either: scale with lifesteal/crit
W OR apply on towers
Q; which is another problem.
This will make Yi stronger, his magic dmg falls off, if you make it physical, Ghostblade and LW are even better on him
The reason you make it physical is so that Yi can't deal substantial amount of true, magic and physical damage on each auto attack. Right now you can't itemize against him. If it was physical damage you could build armor.

Man, look after the game any game ends how much Physical > True > magic dmg Yi has dealt to you. He can't kill anyone with true of magic dmg, these are so he can't be destroyed by armor stacking; he has crap early game compared to Fiora, Trynda and Yasuo - who are all lane bullies vs melee. If they nerf Yi, there is literally no reason to pick him - he is played for his mid-late game hyperscaling.
I just looked up a few games, and the Magic and True damage values were actually way higher than I anticipated.
In most of the games the true damage Yi dealt was 15-25% of his total damage dealt... And magic damage was 10-20% (depending on how fast he could've gotten sated devourer apparently). That's up to 45% of his total damage being not physical, which I think is quite major.
Surprisingly enough, it's not only for Yi either.
Vi had 13% magic damage with sated devourer. Shaco and Shyvana had 50% magic damage with sated devourer (though, they have magic damage on their kit as well, so that's a thing to remember) Xin had 22% magic damage with sated devourer (he have a minor magic damage on his E tho)
If we assume that Vi and Yi cases are accurate enough (since they don't have inherent magic damage), it means that around 15% of their damage is dealt by Devourer passive alone... And if we would be able to count the botrk procs and just the attack speed increase effect on physical damage as well... It looks pretty ugly for a 2250 gold item.
That said, the few games I played are not nearly enough to conclude anything.
They will probably gut or straight out delete it. Riot is being silent about devourer right now, they have to do something..

They're being silent because they're trying something out. They're probably going to see how this plays out. Odds are any changes that come will come the patch after the next patch.

It literally just came out and it's a Saturday. Why the fuck would they be talking about it?
Because people here play games on the weekend, and have a lot of trouble remembering that working on games is still work, and so won't get done on the weekend.
I thought it dealt true damage lol.
oh great, now master Yi can build armor pen effectively without leaving out a 5th of his DPS.
Mixed damage is hard to itemize against, yes, but it is also a limiting agent to those who use it since there are no hybrid pen items as of now. Mixed damage in nature is supposed to be strong mid game where you can only itemize health or one resist, but falls off hard late game when you have resists of both types.
It doesn't fall off actually since MR items are still limited. And yes these Yis have been winning their games off of devourer, so having armor early on would shut down these autoattackers by eliminating their mixed damage.
I'd rather rush randuins than GA/zz'rot just to defend from mixed+true damage.
MR items are limited my foot.

You can easily build at least one of those on any champion, and any team worth its salt has a legion aura from locket or banner (sometimes more than one). there is almost NO situation where you should come to late game as a team and not each have access to a minimum of roughly 70 bonus MR each, with a lot of tanks and fighters easily having at least 100-120 bonus MR (the only time there is an excuse for this is when the only magic damage threat is the enemy support). Throw in Runes and Masteries and most champs can easily have at least 120 total MR, with most tanks getting to nearly 200 total.
MR might not be as abundant as armor, but there is certainly no lack of it.
Defensive MR items are limited*
There isn't much correlation compared to Armor based items like Randuin's, Sunfire, Thornmail, Frozen Heart, etc.
Armor items follow one of two paths: Moderate Armor and Moderate HP or No HP and High Armor.
Magic Resist items, particularly for tanks, are limited in the sense that there are only 2 items that provide moderate MR and moderate HP all while there are no items that give High MR but no HP. Sure you can pick up a Mercurial Scimitar but that isn't going to be worth jack if you're playing Sejuani and the enemy team is 80% magic damage dealers.
In short, there needs to be an increase in the amount of items that work for tanks who need MR and less for niche MR+AD items.
True that...
Oh Force of Nature, how we miss thee...
This wouldn't be a terrible change to the item. Might make it a bit weak but would fix some of the problems associated with it at the moment.
As long as it doesn't proc True dmg twice, i'm good with it
Sounds good in theory, but you have to remember that it will then benefit from armour penetration, % armour reduction, etc.
It's only 60 damage. The true terror is the double hitting passive.
I'm all for physical damage on devourer, but warrior is pretty shtty right now too.
As someone else mentioned, the reason that the majority of on-hit items deal magic damage (Wit's End, Devourer, Stattik Shiv and Nashor's Tooth) is because physical damage on-hit procs lifesteal, and with Devourer which scales really hard we would just have another release Feral Flare.
Blade of the Ruined King and Recurve Bow are the sole exceptions to this trend. Up until recently, Blade of the Ruined King had a code on it specifically to prevent its on-hit from proccing lifesteal, and they reverted that in order to buff Vayne so she could start shoving tanks out of the meta. Recurve Bow procs lifesteal as well, but seeing as it doesn't build into any AD items besides BoRK, that's quite fine.
