You guys complain about champions but not Riots patternized decisions directly involving them

Darth Sidiouss··26 votes·1,391 views

Think behind the curtains, behind the scenes and whats said behind closed doors.. that sorta shit.

Its one thing to complain and have someone listen and take a different approach afterwards and it's another to continue doing the same thing farther on even doing that very thing more obnoxiously than before or even in other ways.

**<Disclaimer? Im not using graphs or data im using mostly common sense and base observation. **

Twitch Tristana <---- Too the point these two first.. now before you get your panties ina bunch i personally won several matches today i haven't loss any matches due these two champions so you know im not complaining directly about them. This is to open the eyes of the community simply. Anyhow we all know that these 2 champions received skins in a omega squad theme along with other champions.

Now if you were paying attention to the boards recently these two specifically along with draven here and there have been complained about on the boards note this is one patch after the released skins there was even a thread with a title of "wasn't Tristana trash like a while back?" something along those lines and the answer to that is yes and no.

YES because nobody knew she was meta the people that are playing her right now AKA the sheep that follow every meta change or the people that strictly copy LCS players / High ELO streamers are now playing her obviously this is why she has traction right now in pick rate.

NO because from the tank update specifically there were several item changes and when items change champions perform differently as well and unless you know the champion thoroughly enough you wont exactly know how item adjustments change the interaction with the said champion.

But you know who knows these little bitty item interactions? Riot games so the question you ask here is :

**"Why didn't any marksmen receive changes during the mid season tank update despite all the item changes?" **

ill tell you why because they know whats already over-tuned post changes. How the fuck do i know? because its all part of their little marketing strategy. Basically in layman's terms its like me making a cell phone that is built to last 2 years at best but in reality i am giving you an imperfection really because in reality as well i have the ability to come out with a phone that lasts perhaps 10 years.. and how do i look making money per 10 years rather than 2?? so what Riot does is they leave the champion over tuned purposely at first barely anyone notices unless its a very popular champ but come the skin promotion naturally the playrate alone im assuming would go higher than average. At this time people then see the champion is strong and the play rate gains traction and when things do get out of control Riot rushes in to the safe the day naturally the usual shit. Nerfs happen and rinse , repeat. $$$$

Caitlyn <--- No brainer receives an ultimate skin and around the same time was well over tuned and even had complaints before occasionally on the boards i personally remember reading almost every single one of them. Now why did Riot step in AFTER the sales and AFTER the playrate boomed despite having no buffs prior to the tank update or post. Because they knew exactly at what position she was at to begin with that information that me or you regularly would not know they have already. It is a pattern that does not stop.

Jhin Talon <---- My personal favorite example they buff lethality and drop a blood moon skin line that has 2 champions in it that were also directly benefiting off the lethality changes themselves.

Zac <---- Gets an SKT skin around the time frame of being OP.

Now not every champion that gets a skin is associated in the marketing behavior. I am assuming here it is because it would then become too obvious in pattern. I believe they plan this MONTHS before like farmers planning to reap a harvest. At heart i love playing this game but seeing these patterns over and over season 7 specifically (i didn't pay much attention to season 5 or 6 to this crap) is just revolting to say the least but as a community you need to tell this company to stop this non sense keep game balance NOT associated with skins at ALL.

yet Ezreal is getting a new skin while being one of the worst champions in the game and many other champions get skins are they don't get buffs or are in any way meta or broken. What do you want the skin team to do? not release the skin just because there is some random change that might or might not make a champion OP?

Warlord Rhinark1 votes

They dropped the skin so that Ezreal players would stay in line.

sure they did. Sorry but your entire argument fell flat on it's face and now you are trying to come up with dumb excuses to prevent it imploding on itself. Ezreal is a terrible champion and he is getting a skin. Your argument would signify that he is supposed to be a broken champion or soon to be broken. Which he is not and will not. Please try again and actually say something that would defend your terrible argument

I am not at all suggesting Ezreal is broken, and I don't why you get that impression. I'm saying they are giving Ezreal a new skin to hide the fact that he is atrocious at the moment.

how would a skin do that? everyone knows that Ezreal is weak, a skin is not going to make him not weak. Your logic is dumb

I am not saying the skin is going to make him GOOD. I am saying that they are releasing a skin to make people forget that he is TERRIBLE.

Ezreal, like Ahri is just incredibly popular regardless of how strong he is.

But Riot has demonstrated that they balance according to skin release.

I hate to break this to you, but Lux was the last one to get an ultimate skin. And skin development takes ~5-6 months, and call me a disbeliver, but I don't think Riot has that kind of foresight into the meta.

Zac <---- Gets an SKT skin around the time frame of being OP.

May I remind you that which ever player who was SKT's jungler was the one who picked said skin(or was Zac the champ he was playing when he won)? Do you even know how the skin lines work?

You say you use common sense, but then ignore it...

LiteUpSketchers7 votes

Wasn't the Zac skin up to the discretion of SKT though?

Take the tin foil hate off.

Skins take months to develop, particularly legendary scale ones. Additionally, Caitlyn was getting nerfs the patch before her legendary skin.

Not everything is a conspiracy, stop thinking like a child.

truth is "meta" is just a bullshit term to explain why things are popular but there is really no justification. There is no fucking meta, the people playing the supposed OP champs are playing differently, and overall better because they are more confident in their champs and builds, but the champ and build are not the reason the high winrate.

Anidan5 votes

That sounds kind of optimistic, but ultimately untrue. This is a genre in which even comparatively small things can snowball into winning games, so if a champion or build are slightly too strong it can have a net positive effect on winrate even if we assume equal skill of two players on different champions. There can be a psychological aspect wherein you perform better on someone you're comfortable with, but since they're not a majority they can't explain why it is when many champions become popular they maintain an overall 50%+ winrate, which can only happen if they're above the curve in terms of strength when you're less experienced.

Champion strength and the strength of builds can influence a game as much as people can, no matter how contrarian you want to attempt to be.

Cowseed1 votes

Personal skill, knowledge and confidence can impact your performance though. That's why champs don't go to 60% winrates occasionally if at all. Using pants are dragon and qtiepie as an example. Whem WW was released qtiepie called him crap. When ivern was released pants called him crap. When kha'zix was strong Pants, despite the fact the dude himself says he's a meta whore, did not play him. He did not like playing him and didn't play that well when he did.

Attitudes can affect performance and the sheep mentality, as the person above mentioned, can affect the general attitudes of players. As well as how much effort people are willing to put into learning a champion. I think that's why we have differences in low and hi elo OPs

That's because he's not an assassin player and his kha'zix is just garbage. (he admitted that). He tried to play him but without succes https://na.op.gg/summoner/userName=pants+are+dragon, as you can see he has 49% wr and trash kda for an assassin.

What a load of bullshit. Twitch and tristana are META because they are the best adcs available together with draven. No cait, vayne, xayah whatever will be as usefull as any of those three champs. When we talk about meta we also need to take into account that meta doesn't really matter until dia+ where skill levels are way closer than from bronze-plat. Yes a gold vayne will most likely win over the bronze tristana in most cases. A master vayne will most likely lose to the d1 twitch because while vayne bursts one squishy twitch just bursts your entire team from twice the range and out of stealth. Things are popular because they are strong. People want to win so they play what has the highest propability to win them the game. When twitch is open noone would pick jhin when the enemy has 3 tanks. No, i wouldnt ever pick jhin over twitch unless you are confident enough toend the game in 20-25 mins.

THE RlVER KlNG2 votes

i mean you're not wrong

in the interest of skins riot will sometimes not nerf an overperforming champ so that they will sell - cait, twitch, trist, etc. are only the most recent in a long pattern of this

hell they even had brand buffs on the pbe at one point just recently - and malzahar is literally the best mid AND top laner in the game right now but no nerfs in sight

True to some extent.

They already stated popular champions are more likely to receive skins more than non popular champions, which is translated to "If it's popular it sells", remember Alistar getting a small buff to his E when moo cow just got released or Azir getting a small buff before his skin.

Riot doesn't want to waste time investing into things that aren't going to sell, it's also the reason why Yorick hasn't got a skin in ages, he's simply not that popular. League is a game yes, but there's also a marketing aspect to it.

Look at the amount of people that buy Ahri skins while playing a champion that is fun to them. If the champion is fun to play it'll be popular and it'll get more skins.

King of TroIIs1 votes

Riot is not in the eSports or Video Game business, those are fictional veils. They're in the business of making $ and to do that, you have to market your product properly.

Most marketing is: "How do I get these dumb people to buy my stupid shit?"

Evewynn1 votes

I don't think it's a big surprise. There's countless examples of this. One off the top of my head is hecarim

In the same PBE cycle (or very close to) that he got his new gemstone skin, his ult gets buffed. And this is after him not being touched for ages.

Vectros1 votes

So you grabbed some random examples that happen to line up and claim you're right?

HalcyonDweller1 votes

I disagree with the Zac and SKT skin example. That's more a matter of pros using the meta. Riot already develops the team skin lines based on the champions used by the winning team in worlds every year.

The rest of your stuff I can't really argue with. It certainly correlates and I'm suspicious of Riot for that, but I'm not 100% convinced that that is the case or reason.
