Why does nobody understand the new mastery system this far in?

It's pretty damn simple. You don't take Resolve Keystones on mages, you don't take Ferocity Keystones on Tanks, and so on. How is it this hard?

the game isnt as easily divided into mages, tanks and marksmen.

even when just looking at the ad champions, there are a lot of different archetypes of champions.

marksmen, melee adc, ad casters (some of them heavy fighters like garen and renekton, some of them assassins like zed and talon), auto attack focused bruisers like jax or xin, and even sion whos pretty much an ad scaling tank.

a lot of the champs who fall under one category can be played with different builds and playstiles.

for example, the resolve tree was designed for tanks and juggernauts.

but i liked the option to go 21/9 into offense or 9/21 into defense with garen depending on the matchup with the old masteries. in fact, a lot of mains who were confident enough with the champion preferred to go into the offense tree for extra damage.

i dont think the general concept of the new choice based and strategy focused trees is bad. but id still like more options in each tree to also have the ability to chose damage over defense if i want to.

none of the ferocity keystones is good for burst focused mages or ad casters really.

depending on who youre playing, fervor is usually shit for ad casters because it takes a hell of a long time to get those stacks up. and the ad bonus only applies to auto attacks.

most of the damage ad casters deal comes from their spells and auto attacks are secondary for them.

and thunderlord is in the cunning tree. which would force ad casters down an awkward route.

fervor is only really good for attack speed builds. yi loves this mastery. but i wouldnt pick it on pantheon or garen, as each spell only applies 1 stack.

ive tried grasp, but that was barely even noticable. might work on darius though, if his bleed applies it.

Idk i find Fervor to be pretty good on Rengar, and he's more of a caster.

and how is it good on rengar? youre not auto attacking consistently to get those stacks up. youre going in for burst. meaning by the time you have those 10 stacks up the fight is almost over.

ive never seen a rengar get involved in long winded auto attack trades.

the ability is godlike on champions like jax, irelia, yi, or certain marksmen, because their damage comes almost entirely from attack speed focused auto attack builds.

but any ad champ that relies on spells doesnt get much out of it.

SEE! SEE! How is this even being desputed right now!?

If you are playing rengar from the jungle i can agree, but its not very hard to stack from the top lane. All 3 of his abilities are damaging spells so thats 3 stacks as soon as u jump in, then with empowered Q you auto a lot. Aside from all this you can build the stacks up on the minions first.

But I've seen stupid stuff like Windpeaker's blessing on Braum, or Strength of the ages on support Zyra, or Warlord's bloodlust on Ziggs. Even worse is when people take no keystone mastery at all

I have seen the movement speed one on fiora before the the warlords fix.

Checkers is harder to understand than these masteries, that's the problem. They are overly simplified to the point where you feel like you're being forced into a decision of one-or-the-other. There's about as much strategy in these masteries as figuring out which way to orient the bread slices in a toaster.

Actually, if you are a solo lane or jungle tank, it's better to go pure damage on masteries and then buy defense since damage costs more than defense.
